To celebrate its centennial, BMW Motorrad created 100 Years editions of its R nineT roadster and R 18 cruiser. Like the first BMW motorcycle built in 1923, both are powered by boxer Twin engines and painted black with white double pinstripes.
The BMW R nineT (“ninety”) was introduced in 2013 to celebrate BMW Motorrad’s 90th anniversary. That’s the same year the “water boxer” R 1200 GS debuted, marking a shift from air/oil cooling to air/liquid cooling. The same engine in various states of tune made its way to other R-series models, but as the first model in BMW’s new Heritage line, the R nineT retained the air/oil-cooled version of the boxer.
Designed as a modular platform that would not only allow multiple model variants but also customization by owners, the R nineT’s chassis consisted of BMW’s Paralever single-sided swingarm with shaft drive and a conventional inverted telescopic fork instead of the Telelever setup used on other R-series models. The R nineT was stylish in a classic sense, with gloss black paint that honored BMW’s long history of building black bikes, brushed aluminum tank sides and tail cowl, and spoked wheels.
The compact R nineT is fun to hustle through curves.
The first BMW R nineT was followed by a succession of cool retro-inspired models: the stripped-down Pure, the cafe-styled Racer, the high-piped Scrambler, and the ’80s throwback Urban G/S. Each one was a sweet piece of German eye candy, fun to ogle and fun to ride, though the stretched-out riding position of the Racer brought to mind a medieval torture rack (Ja, you vill tell us vhat ve vant to know!).
Rider received an R nineT Pure test bike in 2017, and its simplicity appealed to me. I threw a bag on the tank and another on the passenger seat, bungee-corded a tent on top, and hit the road for a couple of days. As I wrote in my review, “From the first time I started it until the last mile I rode it, the R nineT Pure reminded me of why I fell in love with motorcycling. It’s not about what brand you ride or a bike’s horsepower or specs. It’s about the freedom to get away, to be out in the world.”
In 2019, BMW unveiled the R nineT /5, with its tank and front fender finished in Lupine Blue with white double pinstripes, to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the “slash five” series. Two years later, to celebrate 40 years of the GS line, BMW revealed a stunning yellow-and-black version of the Urban G/S that was inspired by the R 100 GS.
It’s fitting, then, that for its centennial this year, BMW Motorrad created a 100 Years Edition of the R nineT, along with a similar commemorative edition of the R 18 cruiser. Production of both models is limited to 1,923 units worldwide to honor the year BMW started manufacturing motorcycles.
As with other R nineT models, the 100 Years Edition is powered by the classic air/oil-cooled 1,170cc opposed flat-Twin with a longitudinal crankshaft, a 6-speed transmission with a hydraulically actuated single-plate dry clutch, and shaft final drive. Claimed output for the engine is 109 hp and 85.5 lb-ft of torque – enough to push the 487-lb motorcycle down the road with gusto.
Inside the classic round headlight nacelle are LEDs with a lean-sensitive function that projects light into corners. Bridgestone Battlax T31 sport-touring tires provide confident grip when leaned over.
To appropriately honor such a signficant milestone, the R nineT 100 Years Edition is dripping with factory-custom details. Since BMW Motorrad’s earliest days, code number 719 has represented special customer requests that were fulfilled at the factory using top craftsmanship. Today, Option 719 parts are upgrades over stock items and are made of high-end materials or created using small-batch processes. The 100 Years Edition features the Option 719 Shadow and Shadow II Billet packs, a set of black anodized parts with milled surfaces, including the cylinder head covers, front engine cover, oil filler plug, seat holders, hand levers, rider and passenger footpegs, bar-end mirrors, and hydraulic reservoir covers.

There was no doubt that a motorcycle commemorating BMW Motorrad’s 100th anniversary would be painted black with white double pinstripes, and the front fender, tank, and rear seat cover are finished in a special Avus Black. BMW motorcycles are not known for lots of chrome, but one of the company’s most iconic models – the R 75/5 with the “Toaster” tank – had chrome-plated tank panels and side covers.
The R nineT’s tank and rear seat cover feature Classic Chrome, a “paint on chrome” process that uses Chromium III, which is REACH compliant (an EU health standard). The parts are polished to a high gloss, immersed in a series of electoplating baths (copper, nickel, and chromium), painted in multiple layers, and finished in a clear coat. The result is a stunning mirror finish that fades into the black paint that surrounds it. The exhaust manifolds are also chrome plated, while the twin silencers have a brushed aluminum finish.
The multistep “paint on chrome” process results in a stunning finish on the tank and rear seat cover reminiscent of the Smoke Grey paint scheme on the original R 90 S.
Continuing the black aesthetic are Option 719 Classic spoked tubeless wheels with black anodized rims that pair well with the black on the tank knee pads, tubular steel frame, swingarm, fork tubes, and air intake snorkels. There’s a splash of color, albeit a dark one, on the two-tone black/oxblood red seat.
All those details add up to a head-turner of a motorcycle whose beauty is more than the sum of its parts. Frankly, the R nineT 100 Years Edition made me a little nervous. I was afraid of scratching it or, heaven forbid, tipping it over. But this motorcycle isn’t a showpiece – it’s meant to be ridden, and I’m happy to report that I got my jollies scraping down the peg feelers and narrowing the chicken strips without incident.
Twin Brembo radial-mount 4-piston front calipers pinching 320mm discs slow down the 487-lb R nineT with strength and finesse. Cornering ABS is standard equipment.
Those familiar – or in some cases obsessed – with the R-series air/oil-cooled boxer Twin already know its sound and feel are unmistakable: the raspy burble upon start-up, the deep bass chug-a-lug at idle, the crankshaft twist when revving it at a stop, the steady lope at cruising speeds, and the authoritative bark under acceleration. The one-two, one-two cadence of the boxer, with both pistons pushing outward and pulling inward simultaneously, each 360 degrees from the other on the suck-squeeze-bang-blow cycle, is like a heartbeat: lup-dup, lup-dup, lup-dup. No wonder rolling on the throttle feels so invigorating!
As a roadster, the R nineT has an agreeable seating position, with a modest reach to a wide, upright handlebar, a reasonable amount of bend in the knee, and a flat saddle. The thinly padded seat will encourage most riders to take a break well before the 4.5-gallon tank’s low-fuel light comes on. In standard trim, the 100 Years lacks a passenger seat, though it does have passenger footpegs, and a pillion seat is available as an accessory.

From the bodywork to the frame and components, black is the dominant theme on the R nineT 100 Years Edition.
With a wet weight well below 500 lb and roughly 100 hp reaching the rear wheel, the R nineT scoots along briskly when asked to do so. Its compact dimensions, taut suspension, and strong brakes are perfect for a sporting pace, allowing it to bend into corners eagerly and rewarding the rider with a satisfying rush upon exit.
Oxblood red on the seat is the only splash of color.
Despite its classic styling, the R nineT 100 Years Edition is thoroughly modern. It doesn’t have BMW’s latest air/liquid-cooled 1,254cc boxer with ShiftCam variable-valve technology because the radiator and attendant plumbing would detract from the styling, but it’s equipped with Ride Modes Pro (Dynamic, Road, and Rain), ABS Pro, Automatic Stability Control, Dynamic Brake Control, Dynamic Traction Control, Dynamic Engine Brake Control, and LED lighting with an Adaptive turning headlight. As with most contemporary motorcycles, these electronic aids operate behind the scenes and don’t interfere with the riding experience.
The R nineT 100 Years Edition is as enjoyable to ride as it is to look at – except when you’re mesmerized by a passing train.
Instrumentation is appropriately subdued, with a pair of round analog gauges – speedometer on the left, tachometer on the right – with white type on a black background. Inset at the bottom of each gauge is a digital display for various settings and information. The bike is also equipped with cruise control, heated grips, and a USB charging port.

Atop the R nineT 100 Years Edition’s tank is a chrome badge engraved with “1 of 1,923” and the “100 Years BMW Motorrad / Make Life a Ride” logo. The badge marks this as a special bike, not just because it’s built in limited numbers and adorned with custom parts and finishes but also because of what it stands for. It represents a century of hard work and innovation, highs and lows, successes and failures. It connects the past to the present, and it is a symbol of BMW’s values, capabilities, and ambitions. And for that, it’s worthy of respect and admiration.

Marking another milestone in the “100 Years of BMW Motorrad” anniversary year, the company announced that on June 21, the one-millionth BMW GS equipped with a Boxer engine rolled off the production line at the BMW Motorrad plant in Berlin-Spandau. The motorcycle of note was a BMW R 1250 GS in Triple Black Style.
Continuing this momentum, BMW Motorrad also announced on Wednesday that the latest edition BMW GS with the Boxer engine – the R 1300 GS – will be presented on Sept. 28 at the grand opening of the new BMW Motorrad Welt in Berlin.
The BMW GS with a Boxer Engine: A Legendary Combination
BMW motorcycles have been manufactured in Berlin since 1969 and the BMW Motorrad GS models with Boxer engines since 1980. In autumn of that year, BMW Motorrad presented the R 80 G/S, a 798cc motorcycle with 50 hp that combined two areas of riding for the first time: off-road and on-road.
Between 1981 and 1985, the rugged G/S proved its mettle with four wins in the grueling Paris-Dakar Rally and three wins in the Baja 1000.
“With the R 80 G/S and its unique combination of on-road and off-road suitability, everyday qualities and long-distance touring abilities, BMW Motorrad created the new motorcycle genre of touring enduros in 1980,” said Dr. Markus Schramm, head of BMW Motorrad.
“The BMW GS with Boxer engine became an icon, which achieved global success in this segment. What is more: The BMW GS became a legend and at the same time an indispensable cornerstone in the BMW Motorrad model range. Its outstanding talents, such as dynamic riding performance, brawny off-road qualities, superior long-distance comfort and enormous robustness, have since been continuously developed by BMW Motorrad and transferred to other BMW Motorrad model series with great success.”
At the beginning of last year, we tested the 2021 BMW R 1250 GS 40 Years of GS Edition, featuring the 1,254cc Boxer with the ShiftCam variable-valve timing system, making 119 horsepower at 7,900 rpm and 91 lb-ft of torque at 6,500 rpm at the rear wheel on Jett Tuning’s dyno, as well as a host of other bells and whistles that also reflect that continuous development mentioned by Schramm over four decades.
“The GS’s enduring and broad appeal stems from its excellent handling, versatile performance, comfortable ride, comprehensive features, and renowned durability and reliability,” our reviewer said. “It’s a capable canyon carver as well as a comfortable highway cruiser, great for loading up with a passenger and gear, and is surprisingly capable off-road. Nearly every GS owner – and motojournalist – has, at one time or another, described the bike as the Swiss Army knife of motorcycles.”

The new BMW R 1300 GS
Schramm said he was pleased to be able to announce the one-millionth BMW GS with a Boxer engine during the anniversary year, adding that he was “equally pleased that the unique history of BMW Motorrad models with Boxer engines will soon be supplemented by an exciting chapter with numerous innovations with the new R 1300 GS.”
BMW Motorrad called the new BMW Motorrad Welt, located directly next to the BMW Motorrad plant site in Berlin-Spandau, the new “heart of the brand.” The BMW R 1300 GS will be presented at an exclusive opening event on Sept. 28. Interested fans will have the opportunity to follow the opening ceremony via livestream on the BMW Group and BMW Motorrad social media channels, and BMW Motorrad Welt will be officially open to visitors starting Sept. 30.
BMW Motorrad has announced a successor to the R nineT for 2024: the BMW R 12 nineT. This new model announcement comes exactly ten years after the launch of the R nineT and is presented in celebration of “100 years of BMW Motorrad.” The R 12 nineT shares many similarities with the R nineT platform but features updates and a more classic design. More details are expected later in the year.
The BMW R nineT was introduced in 2013 with a classic roadster design and a focus on customization options. Since then, BMW has added to spin-off models including the enduro-inspired R nineT Urban G/S, the R nineT Scrambler, and the stripped-down R nineT Pure. BMW says the focus on customization will continue with the new R 12 nineT.
“The R nineT and its customizing concept established the new Heritage experience for BMW Motorrad’s 90th birthday and has become an indispensable cornerstone of our model range,” says Dr. Markus Schramm, head of BMW Motorrad. “The new R 12 nineT continues the successful heritage story surrounding the legendary BMW boxer engines with an even more classic, reduced design language, even greater degrees of freedom when it comes to customizing and, last but not least, new and innovative technology.”
BMW is well-known for its boxer engines. In fact, the very first BMW motorcycle, the R 32, was powered by a flat-Twin boxer. The R 12 nineT continues that legacy with an air/oil-cooled 2-cylinder 1,170cc boxer engine, like the R nineT before it. The addition of the number 12 in the model name reflects the engine’s displacement, a naming technique used for other BMW models.
The design of the R 12 nineT leans into a more classic appearance than its predecessor, particularly with the tank shape, seat, and side covers. BMW claims the classic look and modular design also lends more freedom for individualization.
“The purist design language is dominated by the clear tank/seat/rear line, in the style of the traditional /5 or the legendary R 90 S of the ’70s,” said Edgar Heinrich, head of design. “At first glance, the tank itself is a classic BMW boxer tank, with a typical bend in the lower edge and classic knee contact. The new R 12 NineT also features side covers in the area of the frame triangle in the authentic Roadster look – another reminiscence of BMW motorcycles of the 1970s.”
The BMW R 12 nineT will have a redesigned exhaust system with a double muffler and conical end pieces, as well as a redesigned intake system and front fender. The LED taillight unit is now integrated into the seat.

Woodcliff Lake, NJ –BMW Motorrad USA proudly presents the 2023 BMW R 18 100 Years Edition and the BMW R nineT 100 Years Edition to commemorate 100 years of BMW Motorrad. In keeping with the year in which BMW Motorrad was founded, each model will be limited to 1,923 units globally.
In December 1922, BMW chief designer Max Friz put the first full-scale BMW motorcycle on the drawing board. At its heart was a 494cc, 8.5 hp, air-cooled 2-cylinder, 4-stroke boxer engine. The first BMW motorcycle, the R 32, was unveiled in September 1923 at the German Motor Show in Berlin. Production soon began in an area sectioned off, by a wooden fence, from the BMW aircraft engine works on the edge of the Munich’s Oberwiesenfeld airfield. Those humble beginnings of BMW motorcycle production launched an unprecedented success story that would span a century.
BMW Motorrad started producing the R 32, with a 494cc boxer engine, in 1923.
BMW R nineT 100 Years Edition
The design of the R nineT is shaped by 100 years of motorcycle production and by BMW Motorrad’s unwavering passion for the boxer engine. The classic roadster design recipe begins with a compact tank and an upright seating position and extends to premium materials and stylish design elements.
The 2023 BMW R nineT 100 Years will be limited to 1,923 units worldwide and will have a price tag of $19,995.
The new R nineT 100 Years becomes an exclusive anniversary edition thanks to numerous special features. The heart is still the air/oil-cooled, 1,170cc, 109 hp 2-cylinder boxer engine. In the anniversary edition, the legendary engine is accompanied by chrome and Option 719 parts, including paint-on-chrome surfaces and exquisitely milled parts and wheels.
Paint finishes in combination with chrome surfaces also have an almost 100-year tradition in motorcycle production. Chrome surfaces, usually consisting of a copper, nickel, and final chrome layer, are known for their hardness and resulting high durability, very good protection against corrosion, but above all by their radiant, mirror-like shine.
The Classic Chrome painting technique on the 2023 BMW R nineT 100 Years honors the tradition of chrome in motorcycle production.
This made chrome a common stylistic device for designers from the late 1920s onwards. The BMW R 75/5 with its chrome-plated tank sides and side covers, for example, is legendary within BMW Motorrad enthusiast circles. With the new BMW R nineT 100 Years and R 18 100 Years and the Classic Chrome surface finish, BMW Motorrad is reviving this incomparably beautiful and sophisticated interplay of paint and chrome.

Fifty years ago, the “paint-on-chrome” technology did not pose much of a problem for motorcycle manufacturers. At that time, the solvent-based paints combined well with chromium – significantly better than the solvent-free paints of today. Today, the 100 Year Edition models use only REACH compliant Chromium III.

The chrome plating process and the preparatory work are extremely complex: In preparation, the metal tank, for example, is first polished to a high gloss. The surface must be completely free of dust and scratches for further treatment. After this step, the part is immersed in various electroplating baths. Layers of copper, nickel, and ultimately chromium are applied. The finished chrome-plated part is then painted in several layers; a final coat of clear coat covers the entire tank.
The metal tanks on both anniversary models feature this paint-on-chrome process, called Classic Chrome. On the R nineT, the tank finish combines black paint with chrome and white double-pinstriping, knee pads, and a 100 Years badge. Classic Chrome is also found on the seat’s rear cover. The front wheel fender is painted in black and features white double-pinstriping. A two-tone seat in black/oxblood red rounds off the design.

Numerous black components such as fork tubes, air intake snorkels, and some Option 719 components complement the look. The R nineT 100 Years includes Option 719 Classic wheels with black anodized rims, the Option 719 Billet Pack Shadow with milled cylinder head covers, front engine cover, seat holders, oil filler plug, and the Option 719 Billet Pack Shadow II, consisting of adjustable hand levers and foot pegs, passenger foot pegs as well as expansion tank covers and handlebar end mirrors. The 100 Years Edition also includes an adaptive turning headlight, heated grips, cruise control and Riding Modes Pro. An anti-theft alarm system can be fitted as a dealer installed accessory.

BMW R 18 100 Years Edition
The unmistakable center piece of the R 18 100 Years is the 1,802cc, 91 hp boxer motor, the largest displacement engine ever installed in a BMW motorcycle. Both technically and visually, the BMW R 18 borrows from famous BMW models, such as the 1936 BMW R 5, and puts the focus back on the essentials of motorcycling: Purist and no-frills, with the boxer engine as the epicenter of the riding experience.
The 2023 BMW R 18 100 Years will be limited to 1,923 units worldwide and will have a price tag of $18,990.
The big boxer is complemented by numerous special features and details. The paint finish of the R 18 100 Years, like that of the anniversary model of the R nineT, is in Classic Chrome and thus combines black paintwork and high-gloss chrome surfaces as well as white double-pinstriping and a 100 Years badge.

The Classic Chrome finish is also found on the rear fender in combination with white double-pinstriping. The front fender and the side covers are painted in black, complemented by white double-pinstriping on the front fender. The Option 719 seat is upholstered in the two-tone combination black/oxblood red and features diamond embossing.
Black is a symbolic and traditional BMW Motorrad color and also adorns the engine, transmission housing, and rear axle drive. The exact designation of the color is Avus Black – a nod to the legendary 12.1-mile-long high-speed racetrack running through the Grunewald Forest, west of Berlin, where BMW Motorrad once celebrated great racing successes and where the AVUS monument with BMW Motorrad factory rider Ernst Henne still stands today. Berlin is also home to the BMW Motorrad production plant. The plant, located in Berlin-Spandau, is the lead plant for BMW Motorrad’s international motorcycle production.

The R 18 100 Years Edition is complemented by numerous Chrome design parts. The durable galvanic surface coating can be found on: The handlebar fittings, gear shift and foot brake levers, handlebar clamps, handlebar weights, mirrors, brake master cylinders, brake calipers, engine cover, cylinder head covers, and intake manifold covers.
The seat on the 2023 BMW R 18 100 Years is upholstered in two-tone black and oxblood red with diamond embossing.
Other features of the BMW R 18 100 Years also include a chromed Akrapovič rear muffler with perforated tailpipe trim in the shape of the BMW logo. Safety and comfort are ensured by ASC Automatic Stability Control, Headlight Pro, cruise control, and heated grips.
With the Heritage line R nineT and R 18 models, BMW Motorrad is paying tribute to its 100-year history and tradition, which is inextricably linked with the legendary boxer engine. BMW Motorrad USA has announced the first round of updates and changes to its 2023 lineup of motorcycles and scooters, which will begin production in August 2022. BMW says it has made an effort to streamline the range of available options, with one comprehensive equipment package available for most models.
2023 BMW C 400 GT
2023 BMW C 400 GT in new Callisto Grey Metallic with gold front brake calipers
The BMW C 400 GT saw several updates in 2022 and remains the only gas-powered scooter in BMW’s lineup. The 350cc liquid-cooled Single makes a claimed 34 hp at 7,500 rpm and 26 lb-ft of torque. Power is transmitted through a CVT (Constantly Variable Transmission) and a rigid aluminum double-sided swingarm with a swingarm bearing designed for reduced vibration.
In 2022, the C 400 GT got new throttle-by-wire, upgraded braking and traction control, and other updates. For 2023, the scooter has been updated so that the comfort turn indicator can be switched off in the menu for the instrument cluster. All U.S. models automatically add the Premium Package, which includes a heated seat and heated grips.
The C 400 GT starts at $8,245. Previous color options of Alpine White and Triple Black remain the same, while the Callisto Grey Metallic has added gold front brake calipers.

2023 BMW CE 04
2023 BMW CE 04 in Avantgarde Package with Magellan Grey Metallic
BMW took “urban mobility” up a level to “electromobility” in 2021 with the CE 04, an electric scooter that features a liquid-cooled, permanent-magnet electric motor making a claimed 42 hp. Top speed is 74.5 mph, with standing start acceleration of 0-30 mph in 2.6 seconds. BMW claims a range of 80 miles on the battery, with approximate standard charging time of four hours and 20 minutes (65 minutes with the optional quick charger).
ABS is standard, as are a 10.25-inch TFT color screen with integrated map navigation and extensive connectivity and three ride modes – Road, Rain, and Eco. For 2023, the CE 04 has been updated so the self-canceling turnsignal can be switched off in the menu for the instrument cluster.

All U.S. CE 04 models automatically add the Premium Package, which includes an adaptive headlight, Pro ride modes, cornering ABS, quick charge capability, a heated seat, tire-pressure monitoring, and a centerstand. BMW’s entry-level roadster, the G 310 R, and G 310 GS adventure bike both have a 313cc liquid-cooled Single that makes a claimed 34 hp at 9,250 rpm and 20.6 lb-ft of torque. Power is delivered via a 6-speed gearbox and chain final drive, and the G 310s were upgraded in 2021 to include throttle-by-wire and a slipper clutch, as well as adjustable brake and clutch hand levers. ABS is standard, but other 2021 updates included a new LED headlight and indicators.

Introduced in 2013, BMW’s R nineT range – R nineT, R nineT Pure, R nineT Scrambler, and R nineT Urban G/S – saw updates in 2021, so there are only style and option changes for the 2023 lineup. The range still includes a 1,170cc air/liquid-cooled Boxer Twin that received newly designed cylinder heads with a new turbulence system in 2021. The engine makes 109 hp at 7,250 rpm and 85.5 lb-ft of torque (claimed). The R nineT range features a 6-speed gearbox, a single-plate dry clutch, and shaft final drive.
Cornering ABS, a new shock absorber with travel-dependent damping, and Rain and Road ride modes were added as standard to the entire range in 2021, as well as new instrumentation and LED headlamp and indicators. Automatic Stability Control is standard across the range, and with the exception of the R nineT Pure, each bike now offers Pro ride modes as part of the included Select Package, with the R nineT adding Dynamic ride mode and the Scrambler and Urban G/S adding Dirt. Pro ride modes, including Dynamic ride mode, are options on the R nineT Pure.
With the exception of the R nineT Pure, all U.S. R nineT models automatically add the Select Package for 2023, which includes Pro ride modes, heated grips, cruise control, Adaptive Headlight, MSR Dynamic engine brake control, and cornering traction control.
New individual options for the R nineT include an aluminum fuel tank (with or without sanded welds), Option 719 Wheels (Classic and Sport), and billet packs. The R nineT models starts at $15,945. For 2023 colors, Option 719 Mineral White Metallic/Aurum has been removed. Option 719 Aluminum Matte, Option 719 Night Black/Aluminum Matte, and Black Storm Metallic remain unchanged.

Power is transmitted to the rear wheel via a 6-speed gear box with longer gear ratios from 4th through 6th. The bike has a chain final drive, and slipper clutch was added in 2021.
Also added as standard in 2021 were cornering ABS and traction control, all-around LED lighting, and three ride modes: Rain, Road, and Dynamic. Pro ride modes – including Dynamic Pro with adjustable wheelie control, Hill Start Control Pro, MSR, and DBC – come as part of the 2023 Premium Package, which is included with all U.S. S 1000 R models. RDC real-time gradient tire-pressure monitoring has also been added to Premium Package, and the self-canceling turnsignals can be switched off in the menu for the instrument cluster.

Like its stablemate, the XR has a 999cc oil/water-cooled inline-Four that makes a claimed 165 hp at 11,000 rpm and 84 lb-ft of torque. It has a 6-speed gear box – with the gear ratios lengthened for 4th through 6th gear in 2020 – as well as a slipper clutch and chain final drive.
Partially integral Race ABS, cornering traction control, Dynamic Electronic Suspension Adjustment, and Pro riding modes – including Hill Start Control Pro and MSR – are standard, and all U.S. S 1000 XR models automatically add the Premium Package, which includes Keyless Ride, GPS Prep, USB port, tire-pressure monitoring, handguards, a centerstand, luggage rack, Dynamic ESA pro, Gear Shift Assist Pro, heated grips, cruise control, Adaptive Headlight, and LED auxiliary lights. BMW 2023 K 1600 GT in new Option 719 Meteoric Dust II Metallic
All four models of the K 1600 range received updates for the 2022 lineup to meet Euro 5 regulations. All the bikes are still powered by 1,649cc oil/water-cooled inline-Six but included updated BMS engine control, two knock sensors, and two additional lambda probes in 2022. They still make a claimed 160 hp but at 6,750 rpm (1,000 rpm lower than before) and increased 133 lb-ft of torque – up from 129. Power is transmitted via a 6-speed gearbox, a multiple-disc wet clutch, and shaft final drive.
Engine drag-torque control, Dynamic Electronic Suspension Adjustment, and cosmetic and instrumentation updates were also made for 2022. Integral cornering ABS, cornering traction control, Hill Start Control Pro, tire-pressure monitoring, and three ride modes – Rain, Road, and Dynamic – are all standard. For 2023, Keyless Ride is also standard, the self-canceling turnsignals can be switched off in the menu for the instrument cluster, and RDC real-time gradient tire-pressure monitoring has been included with the Premium Package, which is automatically added to the K 1600 GT and GTL, and the ZBP Bagger Package and Grand America Package for the K 1600 B and Grand America respectively.
The Premium Package for both the GT and GTL includes Gear Shift Assist Pro, central locking, LED auxiliary lights, anti-theft alarm, and engine protection bars. The GT Premium Package adds an audio system.
Individual options for both include the Option 719 Bench Seat, floor lighting, and Option 719 Forged Wheels. The GTL adds a high seat and tubular handlebars.

The Grand America Package adds a high windshield, additional speakers, and a top case.

Something I always respected about Ducati’s Scrambler lineup was the sheer amount of variations they provided us with: Cafe Racer, Desert Sled, and Full Throttle to name a few. It looks like BMW is gearing up for a napalm war with the Ducati clan by revealing their new amazing and highly customizable R nineT lie-up with four new variations from the factory for 2021.
The editions include the Urban G/S, the Scrambler, the Pure, and of course the standard for you suit-and-tie boring guys. All of the editions are still built on the R nineT platform featuring a flat-twin engine producing 109 horsepower @ 7.25k rpm and 85.9 lb-ft of torque @ 6k rpm.
The 2021 model doesn’t just bring visual changes though, due to Euro 5-compliance we lost 1 whole horsepower from the 110 of last year, but BMW said they remedied that huge loss of power (funny, right?) with new power curves due to the tune and new engine configuration which should produce far more power between 4000 and 6000 rpm.
USB charging sockets, LED headlights and indicators, shock preload adjustment, ABS Pro, Dynamic Brake Control, new instrument cluster, and a rain riding mode to use in addition to the standard mode.
