Video shows brutal Brutale beauty

MV Agusta has released the first of a series very beautiful scenic videos shot in northern Italy and featuring the equally beautiful, limited-edition 208hp Brutale 1000 RR Serie Oro.

Warning: You cannot watch this video without wanting to book a flight to Italy now and hire a bike to do the same roads!

Our Beautiful Land

The series of MV Agusta videos is called “Il Nostro Bel Paese” (Our Beautiful Land).

First up is “Motosinfonia d’Autunno” (Autumn Motor Symphony) which was shot in Trentino and features CIV Supersport champion Davide Stirpe.

It’s all in slow motion and there is no exhaust note to relish, only Pucini’s most famous aria, Turandot.

Call us plebs, but we would have preferred to hear the Brutale’s beautiful but brutal cry!Beautiful MV Agusta Brutale 1000 RR Serie ORO

After all, not many of us will ever get to see one in the flesh — or carbon, titaniam and CNC machined bits — as they cost $71,990 ride away.

The “Il Nostro Bel Paese” video will be followed by“Motosinfonia d’Inverno” (winter), “Motosinfonia di Primavera” (spring), and “Motosinfonia d’Estate” (summer).

We can expect other models to be highlighted in the videos, including the Rush 1000 which was unveiled at the EICMA motorcycle show in Milan last week.

MV Agusta Rush 1000 beautiful
MV Agusta Rush 1000

We reckon it’s an exercise in over-styling, but we still are interested in seeing it among the beautiful Italian landscape.

Rush 1000 is another limited-edition model, based on the Brutale 1000 RR.

The bike didn’t rate with Italian visitors to the EICMA motorcycle show in Milan who voted the Ducati Streetfighter V4 most beautiful bike with 36.7% of the votes.

It was followed by Aprilia RS 660 on 14.9%, MV Agusta Superveloce 800 (11.23%), Honda CBR1000RR-R SP (9.43%) and Moto Guzzi V85 TT Travel (4.76%).

No mention of the Rush 1000 which only rated 4% of the votes in our poll of the most beautiful bikes of the show.

Vote for the most beautiful bike of EICMA

Surprise, surprise, the Italians have once again cast their vote for an Italian motorcycle as the most beautiful at last week’s EICMA motorcycle show in Milan.

Ducati’s Streetfighter V4 took out the award voted by visitors to the show, making it five wins in the past seven years, or 10 in 14 years.

Fellow Italian company MV Agusta spoilt the run last year when the Brutale 1000 Serie Oro took out the popular-vote title.

Ducati’s big victory run started in 2013 with the Monster 1200 S, followed by the Scrambler, Diavel and SuperSport. In 2012, it was the MV Agusta Rivale 800.

You get the picture!

Italian bikes win at an Italian show even though it is the biggest motorcycle show in the world and every manufacturer is represented.

Similarly, BMW usually wins the title at the biennial Intermot show in Cologne.

Now it’s your turn to vote.

Cast your vote below for the most beautiful bike of the EICMA show.

We have included production and concept bikes and listed them in alphabetic order.

MV Agusta rush out Rush 1000

The MV Agusta Rush 1000 has been unveiled just days after the company revealed their 2020 range led by the sexy new Superveloce 800 and the return of the Brutale 1000RR.

But don’t get too excited. The Rush 1000 is basically a limited-edition version of the Brutale 1000 RR, so expect it to cost an arm and a leg.

To us, it’s an exercise in over-styling. Too much is simply too much.

MV has simply thrown every bit of carbon, titanium and CNC machining at it that they have in their arsenal.

At its core, the Rush 1000 is a Brutal RR which has 208hp output from the four-cylinder engine.

We can’t afford a Rush 1000 and we don’t even want one, but it’s interesting to look at.

When the Italian company unveiled its 2020 model range over the weekend, they also promised to improve their sadly lacking delivery of spare parts.

Here is the rest of the 2020 MV fleet.

Superveloce 800

Their solo-seat Superveloce is not a new platform, but based on the F3.

It will come in two models: the Superveloce 800 in red or white and a limited-edition Serie Oro (gold series) with delivery of the first 300 units expected in March 2020.

The 798cc triple in both delivers 108kW of power and 88Nm of torque and they have the same Marzocchi forks, Sachs rear shock and Brembo brakes.

However, the Oro has different paint, serial numbers and lots of carbon fibre and CNC parts.

It’s been years since the Italian company has released an all-new model while it has struggled with financial difficulties.  Earlier this month, new Russian boss Timur Sardarov promised new “premium and medium-capacity” bikes under a new five-year plan.

Superveloce 800 Serie Oro will be available in Australia for $49,990 ride away and $54,990 in New Zealand. There is no word yet on the Superveloce 800 price.

Overnight, the company released a short press release, tech specs and a lot of very attractive model photos.

There was no mention of the long-term deal signed in July 2019 with Chinese industrial giant Loncin Motor to build a four-model “all-new family of MV Agusta products in the 350-500cc displacement”.

Unedited official 2020 model press release:

Quality, technology, performance. But also quick delivery of spare parts and professional service. There’s more: expansion and improvement of the dealers network to offer clients timely, impeccable assistance. These are the short-term guidelines for MV Agusta, which has just set off on a growth path clearly envisioned by its CEO, Timur Sardarov.

Thanks to the rationalisation of the production process and to efficiencies gained in the engineering phase, MV Agusta proudly presents its new Rosso Range, made up of Brutale 800, Dragster 800 and Turismo Veloce 800. The Rosso Range models stand out for their bright red livery and their comprehensive outfitting, despite a price tag that is lower than that of the models they derive from.

Vision, futuristic technology, and the pursuit of a dream: these are the values behind the creation of a new Concept Bike that will be revealed at EICMA as world premiere and which production is due to start in the coming months. The irreverent spirit of American drag races was the inspiration for a project that elevates the performance of the bike it derives from in the most daring of interpretations.

MV Agusta Rush 1000 | Drag Race inspired special on bones of Brutale RR

A spin-off from the Brutale 1000 RR the new MV Agusta Rush 1000 has looked to the sport of drag racing for inspiration to come up with the new look.

The only production bike utilizing radial valves and titanium connecting rods to assist in developing 208 hp in standard road homologation form (over 212 hp with non-homologated exhaust and updated ECU).

Born as an exercise in style, celebrating the technical and stylistic evolution that created the new Brutale 1000 RR, production of the Rush 1000 is scheduled to begin in the next few months.

The front headlight unit, inspired by that of the exclusive RVS #1, offers a specific design and is distinguished with the technology implemented: it boasts is a Full LED unit with cornering function, designed to increase active safety and improve driving pleasure.

The headlight support and the circular frame are in light CNC machined alloys, to enhance the design and functionality. The back cover of the optical unit is made of carbon fiber, a material also chosen for the minimalist passenger seat cover, as well as for the side panels of the tail. The tank cap is made of aluminum and is also CNC machined.

The rear wheel is enclosed, a design sometimes found on drag strips: the rear rim in forged aluminum is concealed by a carbon fiber cover, designed to obtain the best aerodynamic performance. The fixing nut of the single sided rear wheel is in CNC machined aluminum alloy. To add contrast the front wheel is spoked.

The rear tailpiece, passenger seat area and integration of the rear light unit have been specially designed for this vehicle. An exclusive specific exhaust system, has been hand-crafted from titanium with a carbon fiber heat shield. The mapping of the control unit is specific for the exhaust system, so as to make the delivery linear and obtain exemplary power values.

The Rush 1000 boasts the technology and driving dynamics of the Brutale 1000 RR. The four-cylinder in-line engine with integrated MVICS ignition-injection system (Motor & Vehicle Integrated Control System) has 8 injectors, 4 lower Mikuni and 4 upper Magneti Marelli with increased flow rate. The Eldor EM2.0 engine control unit intervenes on the throttle body full ride by wire Mikuni; the pencil-coil coils are equipped with “ion-sensing” technology, detonation and mismatch control. There are four engine management maps (Sport, Race, Rain, Custom), while the disengageable traction control has 8 intervention levels and wheelie control with an inertial platform. The MV EAS 2.1 (Electronically Assisted Shift Up & Down) transmission system without friction has been further improved in terms of ease of use and speed of action.

MV Agusta Rush
MV Agusta Rush 1000

Technological features of the four-cylinder in-line, include the new crankshaft and the redesigned and lighter pistons. The completely revised combustion chamber has radial valves and was designed using the technology from Formula 1. The titanium connecting rods, derived from competition experience exploit MotoGP technical parameters and contribute decisively to reducing masses, loads and engine inertia. Again from the World MotoGP comes the choice of the central distribution chain, which is also traditional for MV Agusta: mitigating the effects of the camshaft twist at high rpm.

The suspension (fork, shock absorber and steering damper) utilize the Öhlins EC units with electronic management of the compression and extension hydraulics; this system allows you to choose between predefined configurations and manual settings, so as to enhance the chassis based on the rider’s preferences and the course conditions.

The special kit combined with the bike includes a rich package of components that make the Rush 1000 even more precious and exclusive.

MV Agusta say future secure

MV Agusta five-year business plan

Historic Italian company MV Agusta has just announced its 5 years business plan.

The capital to support the execution of MV Agusta’s new five-year plan business plan, as well as achieve the consolidation and growth of the company, is entirely provided by the Sardarov family, MV Agusta’s shareholder.

The plan aims at reaching a sales volume of over 25,000 motorcycles in a five-year time-frame along with investments in both a new premium and medium capacity range, which will enable the company to extend the availability of MV Agusta products to more customers, thereby significantly increasing sales volumes.

MV Agusta Superveloce RHF
Chinese company Loncin has also partnered with MV Agusta to produce a 350-500cc model range

In the three-year period 2019-2021 the industrial plan also provides for a strong investment in the global distribution network, focused primarily on Europe, Asia and the USA.

MV Agusta is starting production of their new “Hyper-naked” model, the Brutale 1000 Serie Oro, voted “the most beautiful motorcycle in the show” at Eicma 2018 as well as the Superveloce 800 Serie Oro. Both models will be produced in only 300 units, all of which have been sold-out online in just a few days. They will be delivered to customers over the next months.

After becoming the new Chairman of the Board and CEO in December 2018, Timur Sardarov has put together a new top management structure and has brought Massimo Bordi and Paolo Bettin into MV Agusta team. Massimo Bordi, a renowned engineer and manager in the industry, has been appointed to the position of Executive Vice Chairman.

Paolo Bettin, who has strong records in the financial restructuring of several industrial companies, is the new CFO of MV Agusta, while Giovanni Castiglioni will maintain an advisory role.

Timur Sardarov

“Over the next five years, MV Agusta’s attention will be focused on developing the sales and service network, while investing in product development and maintaining its efforts in digitalization and technological innovation. We are committed to deliver the best products and continue to be a benchmark in the motorcycle industry in quality, design, and technology. Finally, MV Agusta has all the tools to do so. Together with the management, we are working diligently to execute the business plan and achieve our objectives which will require an increase of personnel and dedication from all at every level of the company. This will also positively impact the local community in terms of employment and benefit the Varese-area related industries.”

MV Agusta Russian boss promises new models

MV Agusta’s new Russian boss has promised new “premium and medium-capacity” bikes under a five-year business plan financed by his family.

The company has not mentioned what the new models will be, but they have confirmed they will start production of 300 limited edition models of the Brutale 1000 Serie Oro and Superveloce 800 Serie Oro.

Since the 675cc/800cc triples in 2012, there have been no all-new models, only limited-edition versions.

Russian
Giovanni Castiglioni and Timur Sardarov

New boss of the 84-year-old Italian company is Timur Sardarov, founder of Russian investment company, Black Ocean Group, which rescued the company two years ago after it had limped through liquidity problems and lost AMG-Mercedes investment.

Timur set up the Nevada Burning Man festival and is the son of oil tycoon Rashid Sardarov who was mentioned in the Panama Papers and has links to Russian mafia lawyers.

The five-year plan is entirely financed by the Sardarov family.

Previous CEO Giovanni Castiglioni will “maintain an advisory role”, an MV Agusta press release says, ending the Castiglioni family’s control of the company.

New models

MV Agusta sell-out to the bottom russian boss
MV Agusta in joint agreement with Chinese

In July, Timur entered into an agreement with the Chinese Loncin Motor Company to jointly produce 350 and 500cc motorcycles based on their 675cc and 800cc triples.

They will be developed and produced by MV Agusta and marketed by MV Agusta and Loncin’s upmarket brand VOGE.

However, we doubt these are the “medium-capacity” bikes to which they refer.

It will be interesting to see if there really are “new models” or just more limited edition variants.

Current models are more than five years old.

The five-year plan also aims to reach sales volume of more than 25,000 motorcycles with “strong investment in the global distribution network, focused primarily on Europe, Asia and the USA” over the next three years.

There is no mention of a plan to fix notoriously slow parts deliveries.

Massimo Bordi, 62, who developed the four-valve Desmo engine that made Ducati famous and designed and engineered the Ducati 851, moves from GM to executive vice-chairman.

Timur has also appointed Paolo Bettin as CFO.

“Over the next five years, MV Agusta’s attention will be focused on developing the sales and service network, while investing in product development and maintaining its efforts in digitalisation and technological innovation,” says Timur.

“We are committed to deliver the best products and continue to be a benchmark in motorcycle industry in quality, design and technology. Finally MV Agusta has all the tools to do so.”

Would you buy a motorbike online?

MV Agusta has now opened orders for all its motorcycles online in a trend that could send shivers down the spines of every motorcycle dealer.

Suzuki Australia recently offered online ordering for their new Katana model and declared it a success.

MV Agusta started their online ordering with the launch of the Superveloce 800 Serie Oro and the Brutale 1000 Serie Oro limited series.

Sales success

They also declared it a success and have now extended it to their entire range.

In both cases, customers are then referred to their nearest dealer to complete the order and handover.

MV Agusta CEO Timur Sardarov says the “digital ecosystem is a cornerstone for reaching worldwide growth and strengthen customer relationship”.

Suzuki Australia marketing manager Lewis Croft says dealers were, at first, very nervous about selling online.

But he says they loved it because it did all the groundwork with customers and all they had to do was the final paperwork and handover.

Suzuki Katana is a rider’s delight online

But with dealers suffering in the third year of a sales slump, anything that takes them away from the process of selling could make them very nervous.

Online orders

Online ordering of cars has been happening in the US for more than a decade.

But cars are more modes of transport than motorcycles.

A 2015 US motorcycle industry study found that the availability of demo rides not only improves customer satisfaction of dealerships but also increases motorcycle sales.

demo ride online
Harley offers non-licensed people a demo ride with their Jump Start

You can’t do a demo ride over the internet.

We can understand the success of online orders for limited-edition motorcycles such as the MMV Agusta Superveloce 800 Serie Oro and Brutale 1000 Serie Oro as well as the Katana which is limited to 5000 worldwide.

Collectors would be more likely to buy a bike based on its collectibility, not its rideability.

But it may be difficult to extend that to mass-produced models.

Loncin to produce 350-500cc models for MV Agusta

MV Agusta & Loncin enter strategic partnership

Italian manufacturer MV Agusta and the Chinese Loncin Motor Co. have entered a long term strategic partnership agreement that has, as a base, the development of an all new family of MV Agusta products in the 350-500cc displacement.

The vehicles, completely designed by MV Agusta to occupy a premium tier of the high growth lower and mid-capacity market, will be industrialised together with Loncin, who are a market leader in the production of motorcycles in Asia.

MV Agusta Superveloce RHF
Loncin partners with MV Agusta to produce a 350-500cc model range, as well as an 800cc premium machine for VOGE

MV Agusta have stated that the new four-model family will embody the unique MV Agusta DNA, sound and vehicle dynamics to spark a strong connection with all the new riders.

This strategic alliance enables MV Agusta to enlarge its current product portfolio, while meeting an objective to also increase sales globally, specifically expanding access into Asia through the partnership with Loncin Motor Co.

The collaboration marks a significant progress towards a major pillar in the MV Agusta growth plan, with the company’s objective to expand access of the MV Agusta brand and driving sales – both of the new, smaller displacement motorcycles and of the current MV Agusta product range of 675, 800 and 1000cc machinery.

These smaller and more accessible MV Agusta motorcycles will be available for sale in MV Agusta dealerships by the end of 2021.

MV Agusta and Loncin also announced that their partnership will not be limited to the development of the new family of products in the 350-500cc range. It also includes MV Agusta assisting Loncin into entering the premium segment market with a premium range of 800cc models.

Through CRC, its state of the art design and engineering center, MV Agusta will develop an entirely new family of products for VOGE, Loncin’s premium high-end brand. The family of VOGE products will target the mid- and large-capacity market through sharing technology and engineering with MV Agusta.

Mr. Yong Gao – President of Loncin

“The conclusion of the strategic agreement is conducive to Loncin’s and MV Agusta’s joint response to the changes in global market demand and to the coordinated development of both sides. Loncin will use advanced manufacturing resources and Chinese market knowledge to help MV Agusta expand its product line and enhance product competitiveness. MV Agusta’s technology and advanced design experience of high performance motorcycles will support Loncin’s “VOGE” brand in becoming the market leader of premium motorcycles in China. I am looking forward to our strategic cooperation based on the principles of mutual benefit and success.”

“This strategic alliance is an important step to consolidate our vision for the future of MV Agusta. Our target is to reaffirm our leadership in the production of upper-premium motorcycles, while also enlarging our customer base by offering a broader range of products without compromising our distinctive design and performance. We are looking forward to grow with the right partners and the right products, making sure that our clients enjoy the larger choice of models, all of which share the same DNA and MV Agusta pedigree.”
