2021 Triumph Trident Teased During Final Testing

Hot on the heels of the 2021 Triumph Trident’s design prototype reveal at the London Design Museum, Triumph has released official images of the new Trident during its final testing stages at the brand’s headquarters in Hinckley, UK.

The Triumph Trident is a new middleweight roadster aimed at other affordably priced middleweight motorcycles, such as the Honda CB650R, Kawasaki Z650, Yamaha MT-07 / XSR 700 and Suzuki SV650. Although MSRP has not been confirmed, Triumph has stated that the Trident will be competitively priced within its category. Currently, the Trident is slated for a Spring 2021 release.

On paper, the Trident will separate itself from the rest of the field in a couple major ways. First, it is the only triple-cylinder powered motorcycle in a category dominated by parallel-twin and V-twin engines. Second, Triumph has stated that it will come equipped with “class-leading technology as standard.”

Today, Triumph is further teasing us with images of the Trident in working order, but camouflaged in stickers, during its final testing stages. Triumph is still being tight-lipped about pricing, specifications, and performance figures – we’ll have to wait for the official announcement soon. 

Although Triumph has not confirmed displacement, the triple-cylinder engine appears to be the same sporting powerplant found in the original Street Triple 675 and Daytona 675, as evidenced by the nearly identical engine cases and bolt patterns. Triumph may have revived the engine, undoubtedly modifying it for the Trident’s purpose, as well as Euro 5 emissions standards. 

These images also confirm the inclusion of a non-adjustable Showa inverted fork, which is a rarity in this class, and what we assume to be a Showa shock, featuring spring preload adjustment only. Also highlighted are the beefy, machined aluminum triple clamps.

Nissin dual floating calipers will handle braking duties in the front and are paired with a Nissin axial master cylinder. In the rear, a single radially mounted Nissin caliper is responsible for braking duties. 

Now that the Trident is not obscured by white paint, we can also see the Triumph’s fit and finish on display, with the finely detailed headlight, hardware finishes and overall clean look. Also, Triumph has wisely gone with a svelte license plate, brake, and indicator hugger, which improve the bike’s styling.

We’ll have to sit tight for more information about the 2021 Triumph Trident – details will be announced shortly. Until then, feast your eyes on the images below.

Harley-Davidson Announces Podcast Series on LiveWire Electric Motorcycles Featured in “Long Way up”

Harley-Davidson Announces Podcast Series on LiveWire Electric Motorcycles Featured in "Long Way Up"

Utilizing the same talented Harley-Davidson engineers and designers that developed the LiveWire motorcycle, a select group was assembled from the broader development team to modify near-production LiveWire models to complete the journey. 

Together, this team designed, modified, and assembled a motorcycle in under 30 days. After initial testing, the team incorporated feedback to finalize ergonomic and storage systems on the bikes. In 60 days, the motorcycles were headed to the southern tip of Argentina.

The modified LiveWire motorcycles used production specification RESS (Rechargeable Energy Storage System) hardware, chassis, and Harley-Davidson Revelation™ powertrain components.  In addition, the motorcycles were modified with prototype rotors, wheels, and tires from the upcoming Harley-Davidson Pan America™ adventure touring motorcycle, and custom windshield, rear shock, and triple clamps made specifically for this project. 

Before delivery, both modified LiveWire motorcycles were evaluated at Harley-Davidson’s Willie G. Davidson Product Development Center for initial testing and ridden under similar development validation conditions at Harley-Davidson’s Proving Grounds facility.

Benelli Announces TRK502 and TRK502X Adventure Motorcycles

Benelli Motorcycles USA and SSR Motorsports have announced the Benelli TRK502 and TRK502X Adventure motorcycles. The two models are powered by a 499.6cc parallel-twin engine and share core components, with the main differences shown in the wheels and tires. The TRK502 is touring focused with its 17-inch wheels and street-oriented tires, while the TRK502X is aimed at ADV riding, thanks to a larger 19-inch front wheel and Metzeler Tourance tires. MSRP is set at $5,999 for the TRK502 and $6,399 for the TRK502X.

The chassis of the TRK502 starts with the steel-tube trellis frame, which not only provides excellent handling and balance both on and off the tarmac, but also adds an aggressive flare to the adventure styling. Long-travel suspension is provided by a rugged 50mm inverted fork up front, with 5.3 inches of travel. The single shock rear suspension offers preload adjustability along with compression and rebound adjust so you can tune your ride for the road ahead, or the luggage on board.

The TRK502 features 17-inch cast aluminum wheels, front and rear, with 120/70 and 160/60 tires for a smooth ride and efficient road handling capabilities. The more adventurous TRK502X features wire-spoke wheels, 19-inch up front and 17-inch in the rear. 2021 Indian Motorcycle Model Lineup Announced

Indian Motorcycle has just announced its complete 2021 model year lineup. The American V-twin manufacturer’s lineup remains relatively unchanged, save for the Vintage Dark Horse and Roadmaster Limited. New technology is also available on the touring line of motorcycles, as well as numerous new factory accessories.

Furthermore, the power buttons on the Chieftain, Roadmaster, Indian Springfield, and Indian Challenger models have been relocated to the switch cube on the handlebars to accommodate a new 12-volt charge port on the dash. Innovative Technology

The 2021 lineup boasts new ride-enhancing technology, both as standard equipment and as an upgrade.

In addition to being standard equipment on the Roadmaster Limited and Roadmaster Dark Horse, Indian Motorcycle’s new ClimaCommand heated and cooled seat is also available as an upgrade across all Thunderstroke models. New for 2021, the ClimaCommand seat is available in two style variations, Classic and Rogue, which has more modern, streamlined style. Additionally, the 2021 ClimaCommand seat now allows riders to adjust heating and cooling directly through the Ride Command infotainment system on select 2020 and 2021 models, offering riders a new, and easy way to manage comfort while on the road. With a low, medium, or high setting, the thermoelectric technology is used to independently cool or heat the rider and passenger seat, while a flexible graphene material allows the heating or cooling to disperse through the entire surface area of the seat. The non-perforated seat is 100% water resistant and highly durable. The ClimaCommand seat is available as an added accessory for all 2014 through 2021 Thunderstroke models, though 2020 and 2021 Chieftain and Roadmaster riders can integrate the seat within the bike’s Ride Command system.

Available as an accessory upgrade, Indian Motorcycle introduces the all-new Pathfinder Adaptive LED Headlight for most 2015-2021 Thunderstroke models, and Pathfinder S LED Driving lights for most Chieftain, Roadmaster, and Indian Challenger models. The all-new Pathfinder Adaptive LED Headlight senses the bike’s lean angle and activates individual LED projector beams to provide unprecedented visibility. With 15 individual beams, and featuring patented, cutting-edge technology that monitors the bike’s lean angle in real-time, the Adaptive Headlight delivers unmatched illumination of the road ahead – whether upright and traveling in a straight line or leaned over to carve a turn. In addition, the Pathfinder S LED Driving Lights can be added to complement the Pathfinder Adaptive LED Headlight. With the same superior LED illumination as the Pathfinder Adaptive LED Headlight, riders will benefit with even more nighttime visibility.

New for 2021, riders can now upgrade the Indian Challenger’s audio experience with PowerBand Audio quick release trunk amplified speaker kit.  When paired with PowerBand Audio Plus, this system delivers exceptional sound and clarity from high-output fairing and saddlebag speakers that are 50% louder than the Indian Challenger’s stock audio system.

Touring & Comfort Accessories

In 2021, Indian Challenger riders can pack for the long haul and enjoy new touring amenities. The Indian Challenger quick release trunk adds 17 gallons of additional storage. Similar to the Indian Roadmaster trunk, the Indian Challenger trunk is lockable via key fob and can fit two full-face helmets.  When paired with the Slim Trunk Passenger Backrest Pad, passengers have up to 2 inches of additional room for comfort. 

For both Indian Challenger and Thunderstroke models, a new low-profile quick release padded sissy bar with low-profile passenger pad, is available to those who want added passenger comfort without sacrificing the bike’s low-profile and sleek styling.

Additionally, Indian Challenger and Thunderstroke riders can add even more wind protection with taller accessory windshield options and added comfort with an extended reach seat, infinite highway pegs and a pinnacle heel shifter. For those riding two-up, a quick release passenger sissy bar, passenger backrest pad, and passenger floorboards add passenger comfort.

For Thunderstroke models, Indian Motorcycle offers a full package of comfort and passenger accommodations, including extended reach seat, mid-rise and 16-inch ape hanger handlebars, rider and passenger back rests, color matching quick release trunk, passenger arm rests and more. Indian Challenger riders can upgrade with mid-rise handlebars, a tinted curved windshield, and front highway bars.  

Performance Upgrades

Indian Motorcycle’s lineup of Thunderstroke performance accessories significantly modify the overall look, sound, and performance of each engine. The stage 1 slip-on exhaust, available in black or chrome, improves sound for both the Thunderstroke 111 and Thunderstroke 116. Indian Motorcycle’s stage 1 oval slip-on muffler kit and stage 1 performance air intake together increase horsepower by 4% with the Thunderstroke 111 and 8% with the Thunderstroke 116. By adding the stage 2 performance cams, riders will gain 13% more horsepower when compared to a stock Thunderstroke 111. The Thunderstroke 116 stage 2 performance kit, which includes cams, higher flowing fuel injectors and throttle body, produce a 17% horsepower boost when paired with both Stage 1 accessories. Riders can also upgrade any Indian Motorcycle model packing the Thunderstroke 111 with its Thunderstroke 116 stage 3 big bore kit, which produces 20% more horsepower when compared to a stock Thunderstroke 111. 

For Indian Challenger riders, the stage 1 slip-on muffler and PowerPlus stage 1 air intake improves sound and style.

A Harley-Davidson® LiveWire® motorcycle set all-new records for elapsed time and top speed by an electric-powered production motorcycle on a drag racing course on September 4. Harley-Davidson™ Screamin’ Eagle™/Vance & Hines rider and three-time Pro Stock Motorcycle champion, Angelle Sampey stepped off her Harley-Davidson FXDR™ Pro Stock competition motorcycle to pilot the LiveWire bike to capture world record-breaking runs on the quarter and eighth-mile, covering the eighth-mile distance in 7.017-seconds and the full quarter-mile course in just 11.156 seconds at 110.35 mph. The 2020 LiveWire motorcycle’s top speed is limited to 110 mph.

The records were set during exhibition runs at the Denso Spark Plugs NHRA U.S. Nationals at the Lucas Oil Raceway in Indianapolis. This is another great pass at a bold future In Harley-Davidson’s quest to lead the electrification of motorcycles.

“Let me tell you what’s amazing,” said Sampey. “That was the first time I rode the LiveWire.” said Sampey, “I could not wait to get it on the track. The LiveWire is so easy to ride. Just twist the throttle and go, and you really go!”

Sampey and her Harley-Davidson Screamin’ Eagle/Vance & Hines teammates, Andrew Hines and Ed Krawiec, made a number of head-to-head drag race runs on stock LiveWire models, with Sampey posting the quickest times. Sampey is the winningest female in motorsports history with three-time Pro Stock Motorcycle championships (2000-2002) and 43 Pro Stock motorcycle wins.

2020 Ural Weekender Special Edition Announced

Ural has announced its 2020 Ural Weekender Special Edition that is based on the 2WD Gear Up model. Changes between the models are cosmetic and also include a new configuration of accessories. MSRP is set at $21,079.

2021 Honda Trail 125 ABS Announced for U.S. Market

The famed Honda Trail/CT is returning to the U.S. market. Honda has announced its new 2021 Honda Trail 125 ABS, based on the Super Cub CT125. The Honda Trail/CT series of motorcycles rose to popularity in the 1960s due to its light off-road capabilities and affordable price point. MSRP is $3,899.

If there were ever a motorcycle made for casual trekking on- and off-road, one that harkens back to the golden era of motorcycling while incorporating the joys of modern design and technology, the 2021 Honda Trail 125 ABS is it.

Debuted in 2019 as a concept model at the 46th Tokyo Motor Show, the CT125 received rave reviews, along with requests for a production model. That wish is now granted with the introduction of the 2021 Honda Trail 125.

Much like Honda’s fun and nostalgic Monkey and Super Cub miniMOTO models, the new Trail 125 resurrects a time-honored brand by injecting a healthy dose of practical design and hassle-free technology to create a machine that honors the past while adapting easily to modern lifestyles.

Whereas the 2019 Super Cub C125 sought to serve the casual daily needs of urban riders, the Trail 125 expands that scope by providing features that make it just as capable in rural settings and on two-track roads and trails. This was accomplished by strengthening the chassis, increasing suspension travel, improving range and updating the electronics for virtually maintenance-free operation.

DESIGN / STYLING

The many improvements to the function and capability of the original CT series have not detracted from the distinctive CT design, which is carefully preserved in the modern Trail 125. With the goal of balancing the image of a tough-yet-modern machine, Honda’s designers simplified the surfaces of each part on the frame while preserving the symbolic elements such as the upswept muffler, air-cleaner cover, fuel tank, rear carrier, steel front fender, turn signals, footpegs and handgrips. 

A 3-D emblem of the signature original Honda wing logo represents the traditional series model while the drop-shadow Honda logo, reminiscent of the CT-series, is attached on left and right side covers.

  • LED lighting
  • Large, square turn signals mimic the look of the older CT models and are durable for off-road use

CHASSIS / SUSPENSION

Compared to the Super Cub, the wheelbase of the Trail 125 has been lengthened .5 inches to 49.4, the front-suspension stroke increased to .4 inches to 4.3, ground clearance upped 1.1 inches to 6.5, and the seat height raised .8 inches to 31.5. Together with the following upgrades, these changes allow the Trail 125 to readily traverse uneven road surfaces and challenging terrain while still providing ample rider comfort and control:

  • The head pipe is reinforced and the triple clamp redesigned to ensure a balance between frame rigidity and flex.
  • An upswept bend enables the handlebar to be turned 45 degrees in each direction so that the rider can easily make course corrections at low speed.
  • Dual-sport-style knobby tires mounted on 17-inch rims with stainless-steel spokes offer traction and long life.
  • Disc brakes front and rear ensure excellent braking power even when luggage is loaded; ABS is standard.
  • The reshaped seat is narrowed at the front to facilitate foot reach to the ground.

Enlarging the fuel-tank capacity to 1.4 gallons (.4 gallons larger than the Super Cub) increases range when fuel stations are few and far between. The high-mounted air intake and upswept exhaust enhance low-end power and are consistent with the CT lineage, and the engine guard adds protection from obstacles like large rocks and tree stumps.

ENGINE / DRIVETRAIN

As with the Super Cub C125, the Trail 125 engine is a 125cc four-stroke, single-cylinder overhead-camshaft design operating two valves. Programmed fuel injection (PGM-FI) with automatic enrichment and electronic ignition ensure trouble-free starting and efficient operation in every conceivable condition. The Trail 125 has a longer intake and tuned exhaust for enhanced low- and midrange power, as well as a three-tooth larger rear sprocket (39 teeth) for lower gearing—all changes that are ideal for trekking and touring on forest-service roads and trails. Like the Super Cub, the Trail 125 uses a four-speed semiautomatic transmission. 

As a package, the Trail 125 pays tribute to the original CT line while embracing the convenience and performance of modern technology, making it a great tool for riding around town or exploring the wilderness.

Apple TV+ Reveals “The Long Way Up” Trailer Featuring Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman

Apple TV+ has announced a trailer for Long Way Up, starring Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman. McGregor and Boorman have two other critically acclaimed motorcycle adventure series, entitled Long Way Round (2004) and Long Way Down (2007). The Long Way Up covers 13,000 miles and spans over 100 days as the two travel from the tip of South America to Los Angeles, California. In the past, the duo has relied on motorcycles featuring internal combustion engines. This time, McGregor and Boorman made the entire trek on Harley-Davidson LiveWire electric motorcycles.
