Progress evident for Wilson with improved Oakland result

Season-best result for the Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing rider.

Progress has been evident for Dean Wilson as he continues to return to form after suffering a hip injury last year, the Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing entry earning a season-best result at Oakland’s fifth round of Monster Energy Supercross.

Despite the night ending positively, Wilson labelled the round as ‘stressful’ after an issue in his heat forced him to transfer to the main event via the last chance qualifier.

It wasn’t enough to derail his night as he put on a charge right to the very end of the 21-lap affair to record a seventh place finish, positioning him 12th in the 450SX championship standings.

“I think the whole day was a little bit rough but I’m happy with how the main event went,” Wilson explained. “In the heat race I had a problem and had to go to the LCQ, so it was a stressful day.

“But to get seventh I’m really happy with that – I moved forward and pushed to the checkered flag and that’s exactly what I wanted to do. I’ve been working really hard to get back on my feet again, so it’s nice to see that I’m getting back to battling up there again.”

Monster Energy Supercross heads to Petco Park in San Diego, California, this Saturday night for stop six of 17 in the series.

Motorcycle parking bays under siege

Motorcycle parking is under siege from motorists who think they can use our parking bays and even put shopping trolleys in them.

It’s rude, it’s lazy and it’s illegal.Motorcycle parking under siege park

We have seen this happen on many occasions and social media is heaving with photographs of cars and other vehicles parked in motorcycle parking bays.

In fact, we invite you to send in your photos, shaming the drivers!

Some council authorities go out of their way to supply specific parking for riders and use special stencils to point out that your wide car won’t fit!Motorcycle parking under siege park

Yet it still doesn’t stop drivers from using them.

We’ve also seen trikes and three-wheel roadster using motorcycle bays where they are too wide for the allotted space.Motorcycle parking under siege park

Yes, they are officially classed as motorcycles, but the law says a vehicle must be confined within the white lines.

In fact, you can even be fined if your motorcycle leans over the lines!Parking fine Motorcycle parking under siege park

Parking under siege

Parking is one of the biggest issues that upsets riders.

We take up so little space and are a solution to the parking shortage, so we should expect some attitude from councils.

Instead, we find motorcycle parking is under siege.

We are not only have to fight councils such as Melbourne which is considering taking away some free footpath parking but also motorists who trespass on our legal bays.

Iannone remains provisionally suspended following CDI hearing

Iannone remains provisionally suspended following CDI hearing

Italian MotoGP contender ruled out of Sepang pre-season test.

Image: Supplied.

Andrea Iannone will remain provisionally suspended after allegedly testing positive to a banned substance under the World Anti Doping Code last year, his International Disciplinary Court (CDI) hearing that took place today yet reach a verdict, ruling him out of the Sepang MotoGP test.

Iannone’s adverse reading was collected in a urine sample from him at an in-competition test carried out by the FIM at the penultimate round of MotoGP in Sepang, Malaysia, at the beginning of November 2019.

The Italian, who’s B sample matched the result of his A sample, accepted the opportunity to present his case at the FIM Headquarters this week in the presence of a panel of three judges of the CDI.

The proceeding is still ongoing until a CDI decision is finalised, meaning he remains provisionally suspended until then and is therefore barred from participating in any motorcycling competition or related activity until further notice. Aprilia Racing and Iannone were hopeful of a succesful outcome that would allow him to test in Malaysia.

Coronavirus no setback to CFMoto future

The coronavirus scare has forced Honda and CFMoto Chinese factories to extend their lunar new year production closures by about a week.

Honda’s factory mainly produces models for the domestic market while the CFMoto factory in Hangzhou makes their bikes for the world market and KTMs for China.

Australian CFMoto importer Mojo Motorcycles says the CFMoto factory is scheduled to return to work on Monday (10 February 2020), just one week later than scheduled.

I believe many companies in China have taken a similar approach extending their Lunar Year celebrations,” he says.

“We have heard nothing else from them about production delays and expect to get a clearer picture next week when they return to the office.”

His planned trip to China early this year has been postponed due to the coronavirus situation.

The CFMoto factory is just outside Shanghai and about 750km from Wuhan, the epicentre of the coronavirus outbreak.

CFMoto and KTM are also building a joint factory in China with an estimated output of more than half a million bikes a year for the world market.

Michael says the joint factory was progressing well with production planned for the third quarter of this year.

“I believe the first models to be manufactured there will be the new CFMoto 700s (released in Milan) followed by KTM 790s.”

Coronavirus aside, CFMoto has not curtailed its future product development.

We will still be getting the sexy new 700CL-X at the end of this year and it looks like there will be a 250cc race replica as well.

The 700CL-X was unveiled at the EICMA motorcycle show in Milan last November, while the 250SR prototype rolled out last year looks more likely to hit production.

Several spy shots of production have been revealed in the past few months.

And now patent drawings and a few specifications have been revealed that show there will be both 27.5hp 250SR and 29hp 300SR versions.

The 700CL-X, 250SR and 300SR bikes would join their current Aussie line-up of 150NK ($3490 ride away), 250NK ($4290), 300NK ($4990) and 650NK naked bikes, plus 650MT sports/adventure ($7490) and 650GT tourer ($8490).

11th Annual One Motorcycle Show is This Weekend

What started out as an intimate motorcycle rally in Portland, Oregon, has now evolved into kind of a big deal, and moves this year to downtown Portland’s Veterans Memorial Coliseum.  The new venue provides three times more space and, for the first time, allows the custom motorcycle show – 200 bikes are expected – and The One Pro Super Hooligan Race to coexist under the same roof. That’s founder Thor Drake in the lead photo, in his finest hour, winning the Super Hooligan championship in Las Vegas, 2016.

Indian Press Release:

INDIAN MOTORCYCLE RETURNS AS PRESENTING SPONSOR FOR 11th ANNUAL ONE MOTO SHOW

Annual Motorcycle Custom Culture Showcase Moves to Portland’s Iconic Veterans Memorial Coliseum; A Larger Venue Allows for Custom Motorcycle Show & Hooligan Racing All Under One Roof

MINNEAPOLIS (January 30, 2020) – Indian Motorcycle, America’s First Motorcycle Company, today announced its return as presenting sponsor for the 11th annual One Moto Show, Portland’s annual celebration of custom motorcycle artistry and motorcycle culture. Over the past decade, The One Moto Show has entrenched itself as arguably the year’s most highly anticipated moto-culture events.

Each year, legions of motorcycle enthusiasts from around the world converge on Portland to marvel at the show’s eclectic assortment of one-of-a-kind customs, and revel in the care-free, no-holds-barred motorcycle lifestyle. In addition to the show’s extensive array of custom motorcycles, the show also plays host to Super Hooligan racing, where amateur riders race stock V-twin motorcycles on a short oval track, banging bars and trading paint to the finish.

To meet capacity demands, this year’s event will be held in downtown Portland at the iconic Veterans Memorial Coliseum. The new venue provides three times more space and, for the first time, allows the custom motorcycle show and The One Pro Super Hooligan Race to coexist under the same roof.

The One Moto Show was conceived by custom motorcycle builder, coffee aficionado, and Portland local, Thor Drake. Drake, the owner of See See Motor Coffee Co., sought out to create an inclusive event for motorcycle enthusiasts that combine the craftsmanship and artistry of custom motorcycles with the brash, unapologetic nature of hooligan racing and the overall motorcycle culture.

“Our first One Show in 2009 was pretty organic, as we didn’t anticipate it becoming an annual event. But, year after year, people throughout Portland and across the motorcycle industry took notice and pushed us to continue to evolve,” said Drake. “Throughout our 11 years, we’ve stayed focused on our goal of celebrating the moto lifestyle and culture. The One Show is not just about the motorcycles – it’s truly an experience that brings together motorcycles, art, music, great food and, most importantly, the people that bring moto culture to life.”

The One Moto Show is anticipating a 300-percent increase in attendance, in addition to 150 builders and more than 200 custom-built motorcycles. In addition to the custom builds and The One Pro Super Hooligan Race, the show will also host more than 80 vendors. Guests will also enjoy live music from a variety of local Portland bands, including the Hot Snakes, Red Fang, and more.

“The One Moto Show is like no other motorcycle event in its ability to blend all that is uniquely Portland with the most authentic and dynamic aspects of motorcycle culture, ultimately creating an experience that is truly one-of-a-kind,” said Reid Wilson, Vice President of Indian Motorcycle. “The One Show provides a more contemporary snapshot of today’s moto culture and the diverse range of cultural influences that are shaping it, and we are thrilled to align our brand with the cutting edge of motorcycle culture that the show represents.”

In 2019, Drake unveiled his custom Indian FTR 1200 hooligan race bike. This year, showgoers will see the unveil of a custom Indian Challenger by motocross icon and custom builder Carey Hart. Also on display will be Drake’s one-of-a-kind Indian Springfield Darkhorse with a Traeger grill sidecar, along with several custom FTR 1200’s.

Taking center stage at the Veteran’s Memorial Coliseum, The One Pro Race will kickoff round one of the the Super Hooligan National Championship series. With 22 different race classes ranging from Pro Unlimited and Super Hooligan to Women’s Expert and Amateur Class, fans will enjoy non-stop, bar-to-bar hooligan flat track racing.

The One Moto Show presented by Indian Motorcycle will take place February 7-9, 2020. For more information and ticketing for The One Show and The One Pro Race, visit The1Moto.com. Britain to ban all fossil fuel vehicles

In 15 years, Brits will no longer be able to buy fossil-fuelled motorcycles or other vehicles, only those that run on hydrogen or electricity … or whatever other fuel source is available in 2035.

It follows the recent announcement that Sweden will ban internal-combustion-engine (ICE) vehicles by 2030, while many capitals around the world are banning them from their CBDs.

In Australia, the Greens want a similar ban, the ALP wants 50% of new vehicles to be electric by 2030 and the Coalition projects 25-50% will be electric.

No matter what we decide, the matter would be out of our hands if the world stops making ICE products.

The writing seems to be on the wall … our beloved bikes are heading for extinction!

In fact, the British plan also suggests getting rid of all petrol and diesel transport from their roads by 2050.

Such a move is disturbingly presented in the dystopian film, The World’s Last Motorcycle, which depicts a future dominated by autonomous vehicles where motorcycles are banned not only because of pollution, but because of safety.

Vehicles banned

The British 2035 ban on new fossil-fuelled vehicles was expected to be 2040 with green groups wanting 2030 and the automotive industry going for 2050.

There is no exception for motorcycles and scooters, despite them being a minuscule contributor to emissions.

The BBC reports that the main contributors to CO2 emissions is air travel, followed by cars wth one passenger, buses.

Motorcycles aren’t even mentioned.

As for roadside nitrogen levels, motorcycles are included in “other” at about 1%.British ban

Meanwhile, London has launched a car and motorcycle scrappage scheme to help low-income and disabled people move to “cleaner vehicles” and “greener forms of transport”.

Riders will get a £1000 grant to scrap their old motorcycle and £2000 to scrap their old car.

What a tragedy if old motorcycles and cars go on the scrap heap or in static museums instead of being preserved in working order for our future generations.

REV’IT! Rides: The 2020 Adventure Rally in Mendocino, CA

REV’IT! Rides, a new kind of adventure rally from the folks at REV’IT!.

Begin Press Release:

REV’IT! RIDES: THE 2020 ADVENTURE RALLY IN MENDOCINO, CA.

REV’IT! Rides

After years of participating in ADV and dual-sport events across North America, we decided to put the traditional rally model under a microscope and do what our collection designers do season after season: raise the bar! Welcome to very first REV’IT! Rides: The 2020 Adventure Rally in Mendocino, CA.

THE LOCATION

We wanted to create an event close to nature, that riders could attend in total comfort, without having to haul the usual sleeping or cooking gear, so we partnered with the coastal glamping hub, Mendocino Grove, to truly set this apart from the usual ADV experience.

The property is perched above California’s rugged and lesser-traveled northern section of Highway 1, just minutes away from the storybook-like village of Mendocino. Further north is the fabled “Lost Coast,” to the east is Mendocino National Forest, and everywhere in between are stretches of pristine asphalt that lead through Redwood-lined twisties. Mendocino Grove is as chic as it is rustic, with all the amenities and design-mindedness of a modern boutique hotel, but with mile-high cedars in the place of a cosmopolitan skyline.

REV’IT! Rides

The safari-style canvas tents are outfitted with plush bedding, lamps, private decks and stunning views. There are spaces for yoga, for communal dining, and for reminiscing around an end-of-day campfire. And because you won’t have to pack any sleeping gear, you’ll have a light load to enjoy extra riding on your journey to and from the rally. It’s the perfect starting point to explore, wander, and get lost!

The REV’IT! Adventure Rally will take over Mendocino Grove for the weekend, with on-site parking and training. A variety of sleeping options are available in the canvas tents, but spaces are extremely limited, so read on to book your all-inclusive rally weekend today.

REV’IT! Rides

YOUR JOURNEY. OUR PASSION.

We took a hard look across all segments at what gives the best motorcycle events their magic – the location, the rides, the bikes and, most of all, the people – and decided to build an event that would bring together the best in every category. We searched out a hidden corner of the California coast and found a central location with luxury tents nestled into cedar groves. Then we curated a lineup of food and experiences that show off the best of Mendocino County.

Finally, we sought out the most avid riders from local riding communities to show us the best on-and-off-road rides in the area. And to truly separate this from all other ADV rallies, we partnered with local canoe companies, surfboard rental shops, and yoga instructors to bring you all the adventure the area has to offer.

REV’IT! Rides

THE ADVENTURE

We designed this rally to make any adventure possible. We’ve also laid out some experiences and routes, and will let you choose where the weekend takes you. An example of some of the offerings at the REV’IT! Adventure Rally:
