Fifth Annual Dario Sebaste Trophy To Be Held In Italy’s Beautiful Countryside

In 1922, a group of passionate motorcyclists decided to hold an amateur race, christened “8 of the Langhe”.

The route took riders from Cherasco to Narzole, past the Dolcetto di Dogliani vineyards and the typical Murazzano tomes.

It wound through Calizzano, with the path twisting and turning beyond the Castelvecchio di Rocca Barbena, through the San Bernardino Pass and the province of Valle Tanaro, up a beautiful ascent to Garessio.

A quick break for well-made vittles at the popular Locanda del Mulino Val Casotto taverna, and onward by the Torre di Mondovì commune, to the Vicoforte Sanctuary of the Nativity of Mary, with an eventual finish in Cherasco at Salmour in the dome of the Parco dei Giganti where the competitors were to be awaited by the timekeepers.

A gorgeous route – and one that came to an unfortunate halt in 1949.

Where am I going with this, do you ask?

Well.

According to a report from RideApart, an Italian nougat/hazelnut factory owner named Dario Sebaste was an ardent Moto Guzzi collector of his time and paid homage to this gorgeous piece of vintage moto history during his life.

With his passing in the 2010s, locals revived the race in his honor, calling it “The Dario Sebaste Trophy,” with the first race held in 2016.

Today, the Dario Sebaste Trophy attracts bikers from all over the country – with a special emphasis on riding vintage motorbikes.

The four-day race does wonders for the area’s local communities, as it brings in extra funds to families that would otherwise rely on typical local income.

Supported by the Amici Vecchie Moto di Sommariva Bosco, the Roero club, and the Club Ruote d’Epoca di Cherasco, the “four-leaf clover” course covers a wide expanse of land – up to 200km (124 miles) per day.

Care to be one of the 62 riders participating for next year?

Expect to see a slew of Moto Guzzi, Gilera, MV Agusta, Aermacchi, and Ducati brand bikes from an older era, as well as an iconic bike from Sebaste’s own collection, to be fired up at the third leg of the course.

The race starts August 26 and runs through August 29, 2021 – so make sure to check back for updates on the lucky winner of the fifth annual Dario Sebaste Trophy!

Jake Dixon confirmed to ride Petronas SRT MotoGP at Silverstone

Dixon to make MotoGP class debut at Silverstone

Petronas Yamaha Sepang Racing Team will give Jake Dixon his MotoGP category debut at next weekend’s British Grand Prix (27-29 August), his home race, as a stand-in for the recovering Franco Morbidelli.

Dixon will jump aboard the Yamaha YZR-M1 used most recently at the past two Grands Prix by Cal Crutchlow, whilst Morbidelli continues his recovery from knee surgery undertaken in June. Crutchlow moves to Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP in Silverstone.

Jake Dixon

It’s been a lifelong goal to make it into the MotoGP class. So to get the opportunity to do it for one GP this year, on the bike that I always wanted to – the Yamaha YZR-M1 – and to do it at home is something really special. It is going to be very difficult but I’m looking forward to jumping on the big bike, even though it’s different, and it’s very exciting! I haven’t been able to sleep because I’ve just been thinking about it. It’s a dream come true. I’m going to give my all to do the best I can for the team and I want to say a massive thank you to them for this opportunity. Also to Yamaha for believing in me as well. I don’t have any targets, I’m just aiming to enjoy it and gather all the experience I can. I just want to wish Franco a speedy recovery and that we can see him back at the track soon.

Razlan Razali – Petronas SRT

This is a unique opportunity for Jake to show what he can do and explore his potential on a Yamaha YZR-M1. We are not setting any particular targets regarding results; it is an opportunity for experience at his home GP, while Franco continues his recovery. This is a one-off opportunity, and we wanted one of our family of riders to have this chance aboard the MotoGP bike. As it is his home Grand Prix, it is a circuit that Jake knows well and it will be great for the British fans to have another rider in the premier class. We also thank Cal for his contribution to the team during the past two GPs and we wish him all the best for next weekend.

Petronas Sprinta Racing will announce the Silverstone replacement for Dixon, alongside Xavi Vierge in Moto2, very shortly.

Vinales and Yamaha finalise split with immediate effect

Maverick Vinales

Yamaha and Maverick Viñales have mutually decided to advance their separation and end their previous 2021 agreement with immediate effect.

Lin Jarvis – Managing Director – Yamaha Motor Racing

In Assen Yamaha and Viñales already announced the mutual decision to cut short their original 2021-2022 programme and to finish it at the end of 2021. A commitment was made by both rider and team to continue to the end of the current season, with the team guaranteeing its full support and the rider giving his maximum efforts so that we could finish the project ’in style‘. Regretfully at the Styrian GP the race did not go well or end well and consequently after deep consideration by both parties, the mutual decision was reached that it would be better for both parties if we end the partnership earlier. The early separation will release the rider to be free to follow his chosen future direction and will also permit the team to focus its efforts on the remaining races of the 2021 season with a replacement rider – yet to be determined. I would like to express Yamaha‘s sincere gratitude to Maverick. Yamaha will continue to cherish the good memories and appreciate the work both parties put into the 4.5 years spent together that brought us 8 race victories, 24 podiums, and two third places in the 2017 and 2019 overall rider standings. We wish Maverick all the very best in his future endeavours.

After the Dutch GP (28 June 2021) it was announced that Yamaha and Maverick Viñales would bring their two-year contract for 2021-2022 to an early closure at the end of the current MotoGP season.

Following recent events at the Styrian GP and after deep consideration by both parties, the mutual decision was reached to separate with immediate effect.

Maverick Vinales

Following our mutual decision in Assen to part ways a year early, it was also decided to commit to completing the current season with maximum effort from both sides. However, at the Styrian GP the race didn‘t turn out as we had hoped, and regrettably it did not end well. After thorough consideration both parties have agreed it would be best to end the partnership with immediate effect. I am deeply grateful to Yamaha for the great opportunity. I am also thankful for the support they gave me during these 4.5 years of racing and will look back with pride on the results we achieved together. I will always have great respect for Yamaha and wish them the very best.”

Ben Baker aiming for ASBK SS300 & R3 Cup double

Ben Baker has two titles in his sights

16-year-old Ben Baker is aiming to maintain his lead across both the Supersport 300 and Yamaha Finance R3 Cup classes, with both championship titles in his sight when the ASBK battles recommence.

Baker finds himself in the enviable position of leading both the Dunlop Supersport 300 and Yamaha Finance R3 Cup with a 35-point lead in both Championships over his nearest rival.

Both Baker and Carter Thompson have each dominated a round of the Supersport 300 and R3 Cup Championships earlier this year.

Thompson dominated the Winton Motor Raceway round in the Supersport 300 class with three victories and set a new lap record while Baker was close behind scoring three second places.  In the Yamaha Finance R3 Cup Thompson took home two victories and a second, while baker scored one victory and two second placings.

At the Wakefield Park Raceway round, in front of a bumper crowd, it was a Baker one man show as he dominated both classes and also set new lap records as Thompson missed the round due to international duties with the Asia Talent Cup.

Baker is well aware of the very strong talent and competition in both Championships and is under no illusion of the battles that lay ahead for the rest of the season in the Championship title chase.

Ben Baker

“I think it will be a good battle when Carter is back here, so I’ve just got to be consistent, finish every race, and see what happens. The competition is always tight, there are a lot of good teams and riders. You’ve got Archie McDonald who is always strong and he came back after a broken leg at the start of the year and he was pretty strong at Wakefield. Zach Johnson is another on the 400 who has been fast all year and has also come back to the 300 class so he’s only going to get better through the year so its going to be pretty tight.”

What makes Baker’s form impressive this year, is only days prior to the first round his Mum and Dad scrambled to put a bike together for him to compete on, but it is the confidence in the people around him that he claims has made a difference this year.

“This year we have me, Dad, Mum and Greg Epis helping us, and it is awesome being with the Maxima BMW team and in their garage, the environment is a lot better. I’m training a lot more and I’m more focused this year and want to win. The goal is to always win the Championship and to win the double this year for my parents who have worked so hard to pay for everything and we’ve had a bit of bad luck the last couple of years and to get that would be just awesome for everyone who supports me. Hopefully, we can get the double championship win this year and be the first one to do it.”

There is a large support team around Baker helping him race in 2021 including Yamaha, YRD, Alpinestars, Shoei, SCK Excavations, Sydney Dyno, Utech Design, West Sliders, Two Wheel Obsession and Maxima.

What does the future hold for this talented young man? “Next year we will definitely be on a 600.” he shares.

Rookies Cup Selection Event cancelled

2021 Rookies Cup Selection Event cancelled

This year’s Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup Selection Event is the latest to be added to the chopping block as Covid wreaks havoc on international travel, as well as local events, with it being unclear who would be able to attend.

Within the next few weeks a number of the applicants will be invited to join the 2022 Rookies Cup, with the normal invitation selection process to be followed, based on the established strength of the applicants. Applications are now closed for the 2022 Season.

Red Bull Rookies Cup

In previous year’s a Golden Bib competition has also been run, so that supporters could vote for the rider that they favoured to wear the Golden Bib at the Selection Event. This year a virtual Golden Bib campaign so that enthusiasts can support their favoured Applicant.

This will be done through social media so please check in with the Facebook page for when it goes live – https://www.facebook.com/redbullrookiescup

As in previous year voting for the Golden Bib will have no direct or immediate effect on the chance of an Applicant being invited to join the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup in 2022.

There’s hope the international situation will have stabilised so that the full Selection Event can be run in 2022. The Selection Process will open again in the spring of 2022 for applications to join the Rookies Cup in 2023.
