Check Out This Insane KTM 500 SX-F Flat Tracker

Michael Carusi has created this KTM 500 SX-F derived flat-track monstrosity. It’s awesome.

You don’t typically find flat-track motorcycles being built from highly-capable offroad wheelie machines, but alas, here we are. Michael Carusi took the liberty to combine a plethora of parts from the KTM 450 SX-F and EXC-F 500cc to produce this stunning MX influenced flat-track motorcycle.

The engine is completely custom-built with parts being shared from both of the bikes he sniped parts from meaning this engine is built for speed. Titanium bolts have been fastened throughout the bike and completely replace all pre-existing steel bolts (an ode to the MX legacy), meaning a lighter, more durable motorcycle.

“I’ve created a kind of ‘best of both worlds’ flat tracker. The engine includes a combo of EXC-F and SXF components that we have raced with and tested over the years to make this ‘wishlist’ kind of build.” said Carusi.

The tires have been outfitted with flat track-spec rubber and the exhaust has been modified to be a full titanium custom system to an FMF pipe. Carbon wark is seen throughout the frame inserts, skid plate, chain guide, and exhaust bracket to further save weight.

Although this isn’t your traditional flat-track motorcycle, it’s sure to crank out some insane lap-times at the dirt oval.

Moto Guzzi Announces All-New 2021 V7

The V7 gets a needed update for 2021, with more sophisticated styling and the V85 engine. We think it looks pretty nice.

Begin press release:

More than fifty years after the launch of its first unit, Moto Guzzi is proud to present a new and important evolution in the history of the V7, a prominent symbol of Italian motorbikes around the world.

The revamping is so profound that the progressive numbering in Roman numerals, which had characterized the various evolutions of the model since its return to the market in 2007, is gone. But the character and authenticity remain intact, as these values are destined to last over time and embedded in the genetic code of every Moto Guzzi.

Two versions are available: the patriarch, V7 Stone, with its strong and minimalistic style, is joined by the V7 Special, with its classic and elegant lines.

2021 Moto Guzzi V7 Special

A new Moto Guzzi engine makes its début on the new V7, a close derivative of the one that powers the V85 TT. This is the most recent and modern drive built in Mandello, which guarantees better performance and overall greater efficiency in order to provide maximum riding pleasure, fun and reliability.

It has 25% more maximum power, going from the previous 52 hp at 6,200 rpm to the current 65 hp at 6,800 rpm. Maximum torque has also increased significantly, going from 60 Nm at 4250 rpm to the outstanding value of 73 Nm at 5,000 rpm, with more than 80% of the torque already available at 3,000 rpm.

Compared to the previous version, the new addition from Mandello is generally more complete in terms of equipment and demonstrates superior maturity, also evident in the aesthetic impact of the larger engine, which stands out for its generously sized exhaust pipes in a different layout; the view from the rear highlights the larger cardan final drive and the wider rear wheel, as well as the more robust pair of Kayaba shock absorbers.

The stylish side panels are new, as is the shorter rear mudguard, elements which, along with the new exhaust system, give the new ‘eight and a half’ a revamped and more seductive look.

Many new features have been introduced to improve stability and comfort, leaving the proverbial handling of the Moto Guzzi best-seller unaltered.

The frame has been evolved with the addition of steel elements in the headstock area, whereas the new pair of shock absorbers with greater travel and the new, two-tier saddle ensure greater comfort. With this same goal in mind, brand new rider foot peg supports are used.

2021 Moto Guzzi V7 Stone

Moto Guzzi V7 Stone has the new, full LED light system with the headlight that includes a DRL in the shape of the Moto Guzzi Eagle, whereas the new instrument cluster is perfectly in line with the look of a minimalist motorcycle, entirely digital on a single, circular dial. The aluminum wheels, in the sporty style that equips the Stone, are also new; the rear rim is shod with a wider 150/70 tire.

V7 Special maintains the elegant, dual dial analogue instrument cluster (speedometer and rev counter) and the ultra-classic spoked wheels.

V7 Stone is available in three satin-finish color schemes: Nero Ruvido, Azzurro Ghiaccio and Arancione Rame. The color variants of the V7 Special, the version closes to the classic and elegant spirit of the original model, are Blu Formale and Grigio Casual.

Penrite and Honda team part ways following longstanding partnership

Konsky Motorsport to announce new partnerships at conclusion of 2020.

Image: Foremost Media.

Penrite Oil and the Konsky Motorsport-operated Honda team have parted ways prior to 2021, the pair formally announcing their separation moving forward following a longstanding partnership.

Initially supporting the team in 2013 before becoming the naming-rights partner from 2014, Penrite is synonymous with the factory Honda organisation in Australia, which has proved a winning combination over seven years together.

While the Honda team under the ownership of Yarrive Konsky is expected to announce its domestic plans on Christmas eve, Penrite continues to be heavily-linked to a title sponsorship bid in the new-look ProMX Australian Motocross Championship. It will also focus on grass roots and localised aspects of the sport, according to today’s announcement, and remains in negotiations to continue as Honda’s Australian Superbike Championship team partner.

“We believe that reinvesting at the grass roots levels of motorcycle racing and making this exciting form of motorsport accessible to all is the most responsible way to provide our support given the current economic climate,” stated Jarrod Harding, Penrite Oil Australia director of motorsport.

“We are very proud of the success that we have enjoyed with our Honda MX and SX footprint over the years and we thank the team and their highly talented riders for their outstanding efforts. We could not have asked for a more demanding showcase for our premium quality lubricants. We wish the team continued success well into the future.”

Konsky Motorsport has been widely-recognised for its ability to attract and sustain immense outside industry support, the team previously being backed by Woodstock Bourbon (2008-2009), Cougar Bourbon (2010) and Carlton Dry (2011-2013) prior to Penrite Oil’s arrival in 2014. There have also been a mixture of individual bike partnerships leveraged at select events throughout that period.

“We have experienced great success during our relationship,” Konsky said. “Penrite has achieved double-digit growth most years and we aided in the development of their products through our team’s testing and winning results. It’s an exciting time for motorcycle racing, the industry is up, there is a new promotor for the motocross championship and we are maintaining our racing program in Australia.

“It’s disappointing to see Penrite take a different direction, but I understand their position and appreciate their years of support. We won seven championships together, which is a credit to everyone involved and I want to thank everyone at Penrite for their support.”

The partnership between Konsky Motorsport and Penrite also included a US effort this year, featuring as title sponsor of the American-based Penrite Honda Racing team that saw Mitchell Oldenburg and the outgoing Luke Clout claim top 10 positions in the Monster Energy Supercross 250SX West standings.

That program will further expand to be led by defending four-time Australian champion Justin Brayton in 450SX beginning in January at Houston’s opener, in addition to two 250SX entries, with a new naming-rights partner to be named in the coming weeks upon the team’s official rider announcement.

American opportunity over as Clout reveals Penrite Honda split

American opportunity over as Clout reveals Penrite Honda split

Return to CDR Yamaha Monster Energy anticipated entering 2021 season.

Image: Octopi Media.

Penrite Honda and Luke Clout have split in the lead-up to 2021 Monster Energy Supercross, the Australian revealing his American opportunity is over as he appears certain for a return to Yamaha at home.

After finishing runner-up with CDR Yamaha Monster Energy in last year’s Australian Supercross Championship, Clout shifted to the rival Honda organisation for 2020.

The 26-year-old was due to remain in Australia full-time this season in addition to entering the first six rounds of 250SX West as the Yarrive Konsky-owned Penrite Honda team launched its US program. It was later determined that Clout would finish the series, earning ninth in the standings

A two-year agreement should have seen Clout continue in America for 2021, however, the pair have since opted to part ways and all signs indicate that he will instead return to CDR Yamaha Monster Energy in Australia alongside Hayden Mellross.

“I want to thank Yarrive and Honda for helping me live my dream and everyone who was associated with the entire team to getting us to race the whole series in another country,” Clout confirmed. “I really enjoyed myself racing the best of the best, it wasn’t easy! Unfortunately we won’t be back together next year – I want to wish everyone involved the best in the future.”

It’s unclear at this point why Clout and the Honda won’t be together next year as intended, unable to comment when contacted by MotoOnline recently. It’s expected that both Penrite Honda – which will bring in a new title sponsor from 2021 with Penrite exiting – and CDR Yamaha Monster Energy will confirm their rider line-ups this coming week.

The only confirmed rider for the expanding team of Konsky in America is the experienced Justin Brayton, leading the Honda-supported squad’s transition into 450SX with the latest CRF450R. Mitchell Oldenburg is in line to remain, while Mitchell Harrison has also been heavily linked to a seat after being seen testing in recent weeks.

Despite displaying his capabilities overseas and gaining increasing fan support from Australian onlookers, Clout has so far been unable to crack ongoing success in the US, this year being his second attempt and again unfortunately ending in a premature return home.

While Clout is tipped to be rejoining the Craig Dack-led factory Yamaha team alongside Hayden Mellross, it had already been widely understood that Kirk Gibbs would be departing and it now makes sense that he will switch to Honda outdoors in Australia for the coming year.

Gibbs, the reigning New Zealand champion, rides on a motocross-only contract and could easily make way for Brayton to return and challenge for a fifth-straight Australian SX1 crown later in the year. Both Brett Metcalfe and Kyle Webster are believed to be retaining their seats at Honda locally.

Stage set for Sunday’s AMX MXOpen event at Wonthaggi

Metcalfe, Gibbs and Webster to headline Victorian event this weekend.

This weekend’s AMX MXOpen event is shaping up to be one of the largest Australian motocross events of the year on Sunday at Wonthaggi, Victoria, attracting over 200 entries as racers look to get back behind the start-gates in 2020.

Headlined by factory team riders Brett Metcalfe (Penrite Honda Racing), Kirk Gibbs (CDR Yamaha Monster Energy) and Kyle Webster (Penrite Honda Racing), bikes will be on-track from 8:00am and racing is scheduled to commence by 9:30am.

“I still didn’t believe we would be crossing borders this year, so it’s awesome to be racing,” Metcalfe commented. “I am from South Australia, Kirk Gibbs is from Queensland and riders are coming from all parts of Australia. This is the one and only event of its kind this year and I am excited to race.”

CDR Yamaha Monster Energy owner Craig Dack said: “Yamaha and Honda have been going at one another since their inception and this weekend will be no different. They are both competitive brands and neither of us like to lose. The is my 27th year with Yamaha and racing is racing – nothing changes.

“As competitors we thrive on competition and racing fuels my passion, but nothing is more satisfying than beating Honda and that has been the same for as long as I can remember. This weekend is important to the industry it stimulates participation.”

The Dandenong Motocross Club, which will also host April’s 2021 ProMX opening round, is recognised as one of the nation’s leading venues and there will be a mixture of talent in action including MX1, MX2, Womens, Veterans and an assortment of regular junior divisions. There will be bikes on display, product displays and merchandising.

Tickets can be purchased online via Eventbrite or at the gate, $25 for adults or $15 for children (aged 15 and under). An official AMX MXOpen Event Program is also available online now, detailing the schedule, rider entries and categories, with $15,000 in prize money on offer.

Ducati Confirms the Arrival of Electric Mountain Bikes and Street Bikes for the US Market

Three electric bicycle models from Ducati will be available in the United States at select dealers.

Begin press release:

Ducati confirms the arrival to the United States a dynamic selection of electric bicycles. The E-Scrambler and MIG-S will be available in select Ducati dealerships in the United States beginning this month and the new TK-01RR will arrive in February 2021.

“The introduction of these e-bikes continues the Ducati tradition of creating exhilarating two-wheeled experiences and expands our product range into a growing segment” said Jason Chinnock, Chief Executive Officer of Ducati North America. “In addition to highlighting the connection between the world of cycling and the training regime of motorcycle racers the world over, including many of those on the Ducati Corse team, we’re looking forward to seeing our existing clients and those new to Ducati enjoy these new e-bikes, which are also part of a growing recreational segment.”

A year after the launch of the “Ducati Powered by THOK” project, the Ducati range of e-bikes built under license from THOK Ebike has expanded. THOK was born from the ideas and friendship between a pair of competitive two-wheel fanatics, Stefano Migliorini, a multiple championship winner in Downhill Mountain bikes, and Livio Suppo, former Ducati Corse MotoGP Project Leader, who won the MotoGP World Championship in 2007 with Casey Stoner. Suppo’s passion for motorcycling and connection to Ducati Corse complements Migliorini’s passion for cycling, bridging two worlds with the “Ducati Powered by THOK” project.

In keeping with the Scrambler tradition for fun and style, the Ducati E-Scrambler coming to America has been inspired by the Scrambler Ducati world. A trekking bike with high-end components, the Ducati E-Scrambler is the first trekking electric bike born from the collaboration between Ducati and Thok Ebikes. It is equipped with the Shimano Steps E7000 engine and the 504Wh Shimano battery as well as features Pirelli Cycle-e GT tires for smooth and easy handling. Additionally, the bike comes with a luggage rack designed to carry side bags and front and rear headlights, making it the perfect bike for traveling on city streets or country roads.

For those looking for off-road adventures, the Ducati MIG-S is an all-mountain e-bike with sporty features offering performance, agility, and fun in diverse conditions. Equipped with a Shimano Steps E8000 engine and 504Wh Shimano battery, positioned below the downtube to improve handling, the MIG-S is an E-MTB that will allow riders to explore any trail with unique rideability. Its geometry is designed to safely face both demanding climbs and rough descents. The MIG-S features 150mm travel at the front and 140 rear, and includes other high-level components including Marzocchi Bomber Z2 fork, Fox Float TPS rear shock, 4-calipers SRAM Guide T brakes, 29” Thok e-plus rims at the front and 27.5″ rear, as well as a 12-speed SRAM SX transmission.

Finally, the new Ducati TK-01RR presents an e-enduro bicycle adopting the most modern technical solutions with the aim of making every riding phase exciting, letting clients experience off-road riding in its maximum expression, even on the most inaccessible routes. Featuring a new Shimano EP8 drive unit of pure performance weighing only 5.72 lbs., the motor is one of the lightest and most compact in the segment with maximum torque of 85Nm with a maximum servo assistance ratio of 400%. This translates to torque always being delivered with maximum fluidity, also thanks to a reduction in friction. With a 630Wh Shimano batter and a new aluminum frame featuring a verticalized downtube, the TK-01RR also is fitted with other high-end components such as a 12-speed transmission and Shimano XT brakes, as well as the brand new 180mm Öhlins RXF 38 fork and Pirelli Scorpion tires developed specially for E-MTBs.

Pricing for the E-Scrambler will start at an MSRP $3,995 for the yellow and black color, with a dark, matte black version to follow in Spring 2021. The Ducati MIG-S will be available for a starting MSRP of $5,295, and the TK-01RR e-enduro bike will be available for a starting MSRP of $7,995.

For those wishing to try these exhilarating e-bikes, select demonstrator models will be available for test rides at the participating Ducati e-bike dealerships. For additional information please visit the Ducati website.

TAG Racing Joins Honda Racing UK For 2021 Bennetts British Superbike Championship

TAG Fireblade Hoo-Rah

With Triumph recently confirming their interest in pursuing victories in the 2021 Bennetts British Superbike Championship, it appears like the big move has attracted some other popular names in the racing world to shake things up in the series.

TAG Racing is no stranger to motorsport so it should be a game-changer to have Honda Racing join forces with them with the addition of some shiny Fireblades for their riders to saddle-up on. TAG Racing will be blessed with telemetry data from Honda as well as new parts as they are developed and tested.

The new Fireblade will be ridden by Dan Linfoot after his successful debut racing year in the series.

“Being back on a Honda is very exciting for me, it goes without saying the new bike is very impressive, what Andy and Glenn did with it last season was very impressive and hopefully we can carry that on into the new season with the support from Harv and the Honda Racing UK team.” said Linfoot.

“I can’t wait to get going now, it’s an exciting project to be a part of and everyone in the team is fully focussed on getting back to where we both know we can be,” he continued. “From the conversations I’ve had with Shaun the bike is brilliant out of the box, so I’m very confident the superbike will be even better.”

Hopefully this new partnership will bring a new outlook to the TAG Racing team after a miserable 2020 season development ending prematurely due to ongoing issues with their Yamaha R1.

The racing season will start at Oulton Park, May 1st 2020.

Unreleased Triumphs Hit the US: Triumph Trident 660 & Tiger 850 Sport To Be Released In 2021

Motorcycle Shows Cancelled Across the United States

It’s no secret that there have been some cancellations of major exhibitions across the country. This hurdle had to be overcome for motorcycle manufacturers across the globe. Per autoevolution.com, Triumph had planned a “New Product Tour” but with a global pandemic, they’ve had to adapt and change their original plans.

While there will not be any test rides of the unreleased Triumphs, they will be travelling across the nation to Triumph dealerships. These bikes are the only two sets of the Triumph Trident 660 and Tiger 850 Sport, outside of Europe. “With the cancellation of the motorcycles shows, it was an obvious choice for us to get these in the hands of as many dealerships as possible.” Adam VanderVeen – Marketing Director, Triumph Motorcycles America.

The Trident and Tiger will be following a scheduled trip across the US that you can follow via the TriumphOnTour website.

When Can I Own One and for How Much?

The Triumph Trident 660, a beginner to intermediate naked styled bike will be available for purchase January 2021. The Trident is currently listed at $7,995.00 USD per the Triumph website. Not a bad price considering the 10,000 mile / 12 month service interval, giving you a lower ownership cost overall.

Now for the Tiger 850 Sport, a new addition to the Triumph Tiger family. It has been specifically developed for road focused versatility. The Tiger is currently listed at $11,995.00 USD, a fair price considering the impressive specifications it carries. Triumph should also be released January 2021.

Shimoda announced at Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki

Japanese talent becomes fifth rider aboard latest KX250 for 2021 season.

Image: Supplied.

Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki has formally announced that Jo Shimoda has joined its team ahead of the 2021 Monster Energy Supercross season.

Shimoda was one of multiple riders who lost their seat when Geico Honda closed, instead finding a home at Pro Circuit following a recent try-out for the position.

“Honestly, I wasn’t too sure what next year would look like for me, but thanks to the Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki team and Mitch Payton, I couldn’t be more excited for next year,” said 20-year-old Shimoda.

“It feels really good to be with such an iconic team like the Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki race team and to know that they believe in my ability enough to give me a chance this year. I was able to test the all-new KX250 a couple of times and on my first day, I was over jumping everything because of how fast it was! I am just really thankful and excited for this opportunity and I plan to make the most of it.”

Pro Circuit owner Mitch Payton added: “Jo Shimoda became available late last season. We feel that with his tremendous talent and the new 2021 Kawasaki KX250, it will be a recipe for success.

“Jo showed flashes of brilliance in his rookie supercross season and finished out the motocross season with a career-best moto podium finish. We’re looking forward to Jo mixing it up with our four other talented riders and seeing them all work toward their goal of becoming a champion next season.”

Shimoda will line-up alongside previously-announced Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki 2021 roster of Austin Forkner, Jordon Smith, Cameron McAdoo and the most recent Monster Energy Kawasaki Team Green amateur motocross graduate, Seth Hammaker

MV Agusta Teams Up With Motorsport Legend Alpine For Superveloce Limited Edition

Not included in the press release below is the fact that, starting in the 2021 model year, all the MV Agusta three-cylinder platforms will benefit from upgraded electronics, including a six-axis IMU, Continental Cornering-ABS, launch control, rear lift mitigation, traction/slip control, front lift control (MV emphasized this was different from wheelie control in that it maximizes drive from the rear wheel instead of managing wheelies. Take that with a grain of salt if you wish).

The frame’s side plates are also stiffer, contributing to the chassis’s overall increased rigidity. Spring rates and valving are also slightly different to the standard Superveloce, according to MV Agusta’s director of R&D, Brian Gillen.

Lastly, the Superveloce Alpine edition, along with the rest of the three-cylinder family, will feature connectivity in the form of the MV Ride App. This allows for seamless integration of navigation, social features, and community building. It can also allow for performance tracking, say, at the race track, with data acquisition.

Pricing for the North American market had yet to be determined as of press time. -TS

Begin press release:

MV Agusta is joining forces with Alpine, the iconic French manufacturer of racing and sports cars, for the design and production of a 110-units limited series bike inspired by the Alpine A110. The Superveloce was a natural choice for this project as it perfectly embodies the spirit of the A110, sharing the same timeless elegance and offering unique riding emotions on any road.

The collaboration draws on the common passion of both MV Agusta’s and Alpine’s fans for breathtaking design and beautifully engineered products. Both companies also share a glorious history in competition, and an aspiration to create unique emotions for their customers through innovative, forward-looking solutions yet remaining true to their roots.

The Superveloce Alpine will feature MV Agusta’s signature inline 3-cylinder engine, with 147 hp at 13.000 rpm for top speeds of over 240 km/h, and will come with a host of dedicated accessories. The graphic design, the detailing and the accessories will bear the unmistakable mark of Alpine. Just like the sports car icon, the Superveloce Alpine will deliver premium performance yet remaining agile and easy to ride.

Monaco Design Studio, MV Agusta’s spearhead design division for the production of exclusive bespoke models, was involved in the project since the beginning and worked in close contact with its counterpart at Alpine. The result is a stunning bike that is a perfect synthesis of the two brands’ personalities yet with an identity of its own. The blue livery of the Superveloce Alpine exactly matches that of the current A110. The raised “A” logos on the fairings are also reminiscent of the original A110 detailing, as well as the black Alcantara seats with blue stitching and the CNC-machined black rims. To mark the collaboration between two national heritage brands, the French and Italian flags are proudly displayed on either side of the front fender.

Timur Sardarov, CEO MV Agusta Motor S.p.A., said “Many Alpine customers are also big MV Agusta fans, and vice-versa. The Superveloce Alpine will ideally bring the two worlds together, with incredible synergies in terms of design, personality and style. We look forward to this collaboration with one of the most admired brands in the history of motorsport, and are confident that this new, superb limited edition will be met with enthusiasm by bikers and motorsport fans around the world.”

Patrick Marinoff, Managing Director of Alpine, added: “MV Agusta is a symbol of Italian craftsmanship and excellence that makes motorcycles like no other. Our two brands are driven by the same passion for creating beautifully engineered products and unique emotions for our customers. The Superveloce Alpine is a fine piece of design and technology that makes no compromise on performance and riding pleasure.”

The Superveloce Alpine will be distributed through MV Agusta’s dealer network.
