Suzuki has taken a modest approach to its top-line GSX-R1000R for 2023, offering the model almost completely unchanged apart from three new colorway options. These include Metallic Triton Blue with Metallic Mystic Silver, Metallic Matte Black with Glass Sparkle Black, and Pearl Brilliant White with Metallic Matte Stellar Blue. The bike will be priced at $18,199, a $300 increase over last year’s MSRP.

The 2023 model marks the sixth year since Suzuki’s last major update in 2017. Granted, that was a sizable improvement, with sweeping engine changes derived from the brand’s MotoGP efforts. The bike also got a whole new chassis, including better suspension and brakes and a competitive electronics package. To get a full sense of the entire gamut of revisions, revisit our 2017 Tech Review.

Despite the lack of attention, the GSX-R1000R still proved its appeal during our test ride in 2021. The bike is great on the streets, comfortable, easy to handle, and has plenty of power, even if it comes up a little short against the competition in outright oomph.

Some of the highlights that carry over into 2023 include a compact and smooth-running DOHC inline-four with variable valve timing; the SET-Alpha exhaust system, which opens at high engine speeds to improve peak power but remains closed at lower engine speeds to optimize low- and midrange power; Suzuki’s bidirectional quickshifter; a Showa BFF fork and BFRC-lite shock; and Brembo braking hardware.

The bike’s MotoGP-derived IMU and ECU allow an array of systems to function, including 10-mode traction control, ABS, launch control, and selectable ride modes.
