No series would ‘be the last resort’ for 2020 motocross championship

Motorcycling Australia assessing options following WEM departure.

Motorcycling Australia (MA) has every intention of operating an Australian Motocross Championship in 2020 after departing promoter Williams Event Management (WEM) announced it would be exiting the series today.

Pending government regulations and enforced restrictions as a result of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the sport’s national governing body will elevate its efforts to save this year’s championship.

Following over 20 years as promoter of the MX Nationals, WEM was initially intending to host a final championship this season before stepping away in 2021 when MA was anticipated to be taking the series promotion internally as it has previously done with the Australian Off-Road Championship (AORC) and Australian Superbike Championship (ASBK).

Following the confirmation that WEM will end its position sooner than planned, MA CEO Peter Doyle has stated that necessary steps will be taken to ensure that champions will be crowned in 2020. Whether it’s a full-length championship or a reduced schedule, it remains a priority for the gates to be dropped unless coronavirus makes it impractical.

“From MA’s position, obviously we were already doing some exploration into next year, so we will ramp that up,” Doyle told MotoOnline. “If at all possible, based on where we sit with COVID-19 amongst the states, we will do everything we can to get a form of championship up and running this year.

“There are a number of options that we will have to consider. They will be from running a similar number of events to what was already planned, a reduced number of events and the worst case scenario is that the COVID-19 situation doesn’t improve and nothing can take place. That would absolutely be the last resort.

“We will absolutely do everything that we can to get a form of the Australian Motocross Championship up in 2020. We need the ability to be able to move between some states and obviously there is also the spectator side of it [to consider].”

The Australian Motocross Championship has been led by WEM founder Kevin Williams since 1997, today’s news marking the end of an era for the outdoor championship. It is yet to be determined whether any private promoters will be involved in the series’ rebuild from 2021.

WEM confirm immediate withdrawal as MX Nationals promoter

MX Nationals 2020 to be run by M.A.

Williams Event Management held a press conference this morning confirming their withdrawal from their role as promoter of the MX Nationals effective immediately.

Kevin Williams first got involved with the running of the Australian Motocross Championships in 1995 at Traralgon, and has effectively had stewardship of the MX Nationals since 1997.

Today does not mark the complete end of Kevin’s 25-year-old involvement with Australian Motocross but it does end the role of WEM as the promoter of the Australian Motocross Championship, which under WEM stewardship was rebranded as MX Nationals.

Kevin understandably got quite emotional when it got to the point where he officially confirmed that he is stepping away from his role as a promoter due to not being able to effectively deliver a viable championship this year due to the ongoing restrictions put in place by the COVID-19 pandemic.

We believe that it is highly like that in this instance Motorcycling Australia will step in to fill the void and ensure that the season does go ahead in some form, and that form of course will see WEM still involved in some way and assisting in affecting an orderly transition.

We see it as unfortunate that Kevin and his crew will not be able to have a lap of honour, so to speak, and go out on a high as originally planned at the culmination of a successful 2020 season.

On a personal note, I have always appreciated Kevin being forthright and honest with me at every juncture throughout the 21 years I have been running MCNews.com.au.

The brand ‘MX Nationals’ belongs to WEM and we believe discussions are being held between Kevin Williams and Motorcycling Australia about the ownership of that brand. However, it seems likely that M.A. will likely revert to referring to the series as the Australian Motocross Championship, or some anagram that represents motocross, but follows the established M.A. naming regimen of breaking that down to an acronym like they have with AORC and ASBK.

Open Letter from Kevin Williams

“The purpose of this letter however, is to thank everyone who has been involved in the MX Nationals series in our twenty three year run.

“Motocross has been a part of my entire life and essentially my life’s work since I began working with the Australian Motocross Championships before it became the MX Nationals. The time I have spent growing the series with my wife Christine and our three children Jake, Aiden and Brodie by my side is something I will forever cherish.

“Although as a part of racing, I may not have seen eye to eye with many of you throughout the years, the racing family at the core of this industry has been a fantastic part of my life and something I will truly miss. My love for the sport, preserving its integrity and growth has been a driving factor and provided the continual motivation needed to allow me to strive for progress in Motocross within Australia and putting our riders on the map globally as a Motocross powerhouse.

“During our time together we have had many high’s that include bringing MXGP to the iconic Broadford Circuit, seeing many great Champions leave Australia to successfully take on the world with Chad Reed, Craig Anderson, Michael Byrne, Brett Metcalfe, this list goes on. To see the next generation of Jed Beaton, Mitch Evans, Luke Clout and the Lawrence Brothers having international success in the present day makes me extremely proud to see where the talent is at in Australian Motocross. We have also lost great Champions such as Andrew Mcfarlane and Jono Porter, their time with the series and the impact they made on everyone’s lives will never be forgotten.

“I want to take this final opportunity to thank everyone who has been a part of the MX Nationals family during our time together. From the numerous staff at WEM, the riders and teams, to all of our sponsors and stakeholders, I thank you from the bottom of my heart for everything we have achieved to grow the sport together.

“Yours in the sport

“Regards,

“Kevin Williams.”

Motorcycling Australia Statement

Motorcycling Australia (MA) wishes to thank Williams Event Management (WEM), Kevin Williams and his family for more than two decades of dedication to the MX Nationals.

After 23 years Williams today made the tough decision to step away from the sport and the promotion and management of the MX Nationals effective immediately.

In an emotional press conference this morning, Kevin Williams thanked fans, riders, industry and sponsors.

It’s been a long journey and a major part of my life, but we didn’t expect COVID, and we didn’t expect not to go racing this year, but we are proud of what we achieved over 23 years,” Kevin said.

I’ve always made decisions from a position of passion for the sport, and I want to thank everyone for being a part of the journey.

I encourage all riders and members of the sport and industry to support their local clubs and hopefully we can see some opportunity for national racing when borders open up properly.

Thank you everybody for your great support.

MA CEO Peter Doyle said: “Kevin Williams and his team have poured their heart and soul into running the MX Nationals and we thank them for more than 20 years of tireless work”.

The MX Nationals have faced plenty of challenges in those 20 years and Kevin, his team and partners, have boasted many success stories, with a myriad of riders using the championship as a stepping stone in their careers to race in America and Europe.

“The MX Nationals are a critical component of a healthy motocross scene in Australia and to create opportunities for riders to progress into world championship series.”

MA is now in the process of reviewing the 2020 championship operations, format and dates to see how the series will proceed for the remainder of 2020 in the COVID-19 period.

Further announcements will be made available in due course.

WEM’s MX Nationals reign ending effective immediately

WEM’s MX Nationals reign ending effective immediately

Uncertainty surrounds 2020 Australian Motocross Championship season.

Image: Foremost Media.

Longstanding Australian Motocross Championship promoter Williams Event Management (WEM) has ended its two-decade MX Nationals reign effective immediately, in a decision that will rock the sport locally.

It was confirmed in May that WEM would be exiting its role at the conclusion of the 2020 season, however, that departure has now been moved forward.

In an extraordinary twist as Motorcycling Australia (MA) works to navigate out of the coronavirus pandemic, the governing body is currently assessing options to save this year’s championship. It is understood there could be as few as three rounds in a bid to rebuild toward 2021, if a championship does in fact go ahead at all.

WEM has fallen victim to the uncertainty of COVID-19, unable to commit to a national championship under current restrictions in place and with financial pressures mounting. Hosting rounds without spectators isn’t a viable option and local council support is non-existent without associated economic benefits.

Led by WEM director Kevin Williams at the forefront of Australian motocross for 23 years, the 2020 series – if it goes ahead – will mark the first time since 1997 that WEM hasn’t been at the helm of the MX Nationals. It is uncertain whether or not that brand will be maintained.

“It is a tough day for myself, as I started my journey at the helm of the MX Nationals in 1997, but it goes back as far as 1995 was the first time I was involved in running an Australian championship down at Traralgon,” Williams stated in a virtual press conference this morning. “It’s been a long journey and a major, major part of my life.

“It’s no secret that at the end of this year we were handing the championship back to Motorcycling Australia and times have changed, things are certainly a lot different. However, we didn’t expect COVID and we didn’t expect not to go racing this year. We wanted to spend the 2020 season going out to be proud with what we’ve achieved over those 23-24 years.

“In early June I was quite optimistic that we would see a road forward, but certainly, over the last 10 days has seemed more and more impossible. I feel I have been consistent from day one when we postponed the series, giving everyone the best opportunity to move forward and there’s certainly been times where that looked like it was going to be very favourable.

“But, the model doesn’t work without a crowd. Unfortunately, unlike the football, V8s or other disciplines, we don’t have the big TV program or a heap of money behind us. I’ve been quoted in a number of interviews that we would review in June and we’ve done that. Most of the council funding is based on economic impact, bringing money to the region and, hence, a crowd. Right now, we’re clearly in a position where we can’t confirm that.

“Our inability to deliver a crowd to the industry, to partners, an inability to meet KPIs from the councils, it became very evident that the financial slide was going one way and we weren’t going to be able to deliver. I stand very proud that in 23 years, I believe that every time I’ve said I would do something, I’ve done it.

“They haven’t always been liked, the decisions that Kevin Williams has made and I’ll wear that, but I’ve always made them from a position of passion for the sport and a belief in the sport. It’s been a great part of my life, but unfortunately, as of today, we’re not in a position continue.”

The Victorian-based business had most recently released an updated calendar due to be contested with nine rounds in six events, scheduled to commence at Conondale, Queensland, on 9 August and spanning just two months prior to concluding with the traditional Coolum finals on 10-11 October.

MA recently sought expressions of interest for the Australian Motocross Championship in an effort to secure individual round or entire series promoters, but it’s understood that the latter option is appearing to be increasingly unlikely.

Instead, many expect MA to take motocross operations in-house as it has also done with the Australian Off-Road Championship (AORC) and Australian Superbike Championship (ASBK) with success during the past decade. Both series have stabilised with the direct input of the governing body.

WEM has also been instrumental in the race management of the Australian Supercross Championship and AUS-X Open during recent years, collaborating with series commercial rights-holders AUS SX Holdings and multiple round promoter Troy Bayliss Events.

Evotech Performance Launches Numerous Accessories For The 2020 Honda Fireblade

Honda’s CBR1000RR-R Fireblade may not be available in the US yet, but that hasn’t stopped Evotech Performance from making a slew of accessories for it.

Begin press release:

Evotech Performance is pleased to announce the immediate availability of a new EP accessory line for the latest Honda CBR1000RR-R Fireblade & SP model. This eagerly awaited addition to the growing list of MY20 EP accessory lines consists of quality after-market accessories designed to protect chassis components and enhance the already sublime race replica styling of the new Fireblade.

The two MY20 Honda CBR1000RR-R Fireblade models are the latest versions in a long line of Fireblades that have thrilled owners and sports bike fans since Honda unleashed the original CBR900RR FireBlade model in 1992. The Honda design team knew full well a lightweight, precisely made and perfect handling sports motorcycle would outperform more powerful but ungainly machines of the time. This design ethos was woven into a prototype 750cc machine, which evolved to 893cc in production guise as the CBR900RR FireBlade. This “Blade” went on to outperform its competitors in back to back comparisons. Looking at specifications for the MY20 Honda CBR1000RR-R Fireblades, it is obvious Honda has delivered yet another quality sports bike.

Evotech Performance also designs products that are nothing short of quality. Fabricated by time-served fabrication engineers – all avid motorcyclists – using ultra-modern software and machinery, every EP accessory and its component parts are engineered to be durable and are finished to a level that matches or exceeds factory components. All EP accessories are easily installed by the customer via downloadable pictorial and video fitting guides from the Evotech Performance website. All products listed within the EP accessory line are available as individual items to suit the owner’s requirements.

Evotech Performance manufactures precision-made motorcycle accessories for a broad spectrum of motorcycles from a modern factory based in Lincolnshire, UK. The same skills and technology used to produce road-going EP accessories – that match or exceed original factory specifications – also deliver unique race components for Evotech Performance supported race teams competing in BSB, WSB, MotoGP™ and the road circuits of the Isle of Man TT and North West 200®, which arguably are the toughest test of any motorcycle component.

Pirelli Re-Engineers The Diablo Supercorsa SP Specifically For The Ducati Superleggera V4

Specially formulated tire is distinguished by its red rim.

Begin press release:

Pirelli engineers developed a special and customized version of the DIABLO SUPERCORSA SP to achieve the challenging performance target required by the most powerful and technologically advanced production Ducati ever. This tire is able to manage the extraordinary performance of the Superleggera V4 and make the most of the significant aerodynamic load generated by the biplane wings, which highly characterize the aggressive design of the motorcycle.

The Superleggera V4 Ducati is the world’s only street-legal motorcycle with a frame, subframe, swingarm and wheels – the entire load-bearing structure of the chassis – made entirely of carbon fiber. The 90° V4 engine is capable to deliver up to 234 HP, and the lowest achievable weight of 152 kg highlights an impressive power-to-weight ratio of 1.54 CV / kg. Another important aspect is that of aerodynamics: thanks to the biplane wings and other carbon fiber components, the bike is able to guarantee up to 50 kg of downforce, allowing better stability and acceleration.

As technical partner and exclusive tire supplier, Pirelli worked closely with Ducati during the development of the Superleggera V4 and had to take some radical technical choices in order to create a highly innovative tire to meet the challenging performance target set by Ducati. This situation already happened previously, for example with the first Panigale V4 for which Pirelli developed the DIABLOTM SUPERCORSA SP V3 in the first ever street-legal size 200/60ZR17.

The current DIABLO™ SUPERCORSA SP belongs to the third generation of the popular race replica tire and was developed also thanks to Pirelli’s constant commitment and experience in the racing field, in particular as the Official Sole Supplier of the FIM Superbike World Championship since 2004.

The front tire is a single compound, a solution that allows rapid warm-up and constant grip in any situation. The rear tire is dual compound and uses a racing compound developed in the FIM Superbike World Championship on the shoulders. The sidewalls are slightly rounded as a result of the total redesign work made on the tire structure with the aim of managing the performance that the Superleggera V4 is capable of. Finally, the sidewalls are special color edition tires and bear the red Pirelli and Diablo logo.

Over the years, DIABLO ™ SUPERCORSA SP has established a new reference point for race replica tires and, thanks to its innovative features, has been chosen by Ducati as the original equipment of the brand new Superleggera V4, as well as many other motorcycle manufacturers from all over the world that have turned to Pirelli to equip their latest flagship models.

Alpinestars Announces 2021 Motocross Product

Alpinestars puts a focus on maximizing ventilation with its 2021 Motocross collection.

Begin Press Release:

ALPINESTARS LAUNCHES  NEW 2021 MOTOCROSS PROTECTION SM5 HELMET, TECH 10 SUPERVENTED BOOT AND RIDER PROTECTION KIT

alpinestars

ASOLO, ITALY, AND TORRANCE, CA – The Alpinestars 2021 Motocross Protection Collection has been designed with the utmost attention to materials technology, maximum airflow and ultimate protection and performance. Engineered to protect riders, the new 2021 line expands the range with the addition of two important products: the SM5 helmet and the Tech 10 Supervented boot, bringing leading ventilation technology to both the helmet and the boot. The Tech 10 Supervented is pioneering the way for improving performance and rider comfort by dissipating heat significantly in the boot through increased airflow across the entire bottom of the foot.

The all-new SM5 helmet is the result of more than five years of intensive study, development and testing. The Alpinestars’ helmet development team scrutinized every possible aspect to engineer a helmet that is safe and thoughtfully designed to deliver optimal protection and comfort.

alpinestars

The result is the SM5, a lightweight helmet that features a HIPRO High Impact Polymer Parametric Shell incorporating a special polymer blend enhanced by varying degrees of thickness and engineered to deliver the optimal combination of impact protection and light weight. The 5 Density EPS liner ensures the correct density in the correct area for enhanced impact absorption. Other key design features include: 1) Integrated Collarbone Protection providing an engineered raised area with padding to effectively reduce the forces transmitted to the collarbone, 2) Patented Visor Release system ensuring the visor is released with the correct pre-determined amount of force, irrespective of the angle of impact, 3) Oblique Impact Protection where both inner and outer surfaces have been engineered to minimize effects of oblique impact, 4) Ultra-Ventilated Design with the visor directing air into ports for enhanced airflow, and 5) Emergency Release System permitting the safe and easy removal of the cheek pads while the helmet is still on.

alpinestars

In addition to the new SM5 helmet, the MX range offers another innovation, the new Tech 10 Supervented boot. The benchmark in Motocross footwear, Alpinestars’ Tech 10 boot is extending the line with the new Supervented version offering a unique patented construction that streams cool air into the boot throughout the bottom of the foot; further advancing the innovations that make it the most technical motocross boot in history. Laboratory tests have shown that the Tech 10 Supervented boot dissipates heat 34% faster than a non-vented boot. This technology uses 3D open channels from front to back, in combination with a ventilated ankle brace to promote maximum airflow.

alpinestars

The SM5 helmet and Tech 10 Supervented boots are bolstered by the new range of lightweight and breathable protectors and youth products, allowing riders of all ages to enjoy the best protection while they’re on the dirt. The SX-1 v2 Knee and Elbow Protectors, Bionic Flex Elbow and Knee Protectors, Bionic Action and Bionic Action Youth Knee Protectors and the Bionic Action Chest Protector have been designed to be ergonomic and comfortable, while delivering optimum comfort, freedom of movement and ventilation, and most importantly the protection that all riders need.

Ex-Norton CEO Garner Told to Pay Back £11,000,000

Ouch, that sounds like a lot of money. A Pensions Ombudsman in England has found that Stuart Garner “acted dishonestly and in breach of his duty” as a pension scheme trustee, and has been told to pay back all those who lost money when Norton went under. Which raises the question, where’s Garner going to find £11m? And what happens if he can’t?

India’s TVS Motor bought Norton out of receivership in April for a reported £16 million (about $20 million), when its debt was reportedly around £28m.

There’s more here, at BBC News.

Danilo Petrucci to ride for KTM Tech3 in 2021

Danilo Petrucci signs with KTM

The rumours have been flying thick and fast of late and one that was confirmed in the early hours of this morning is the move by Danilo Petrucci from the Factory Ducati MotoGP Team to the satellite Tech 3 KTM squad for MotoGP season 2021.  KTM also overnight confirmed the departure of Pol Espargaro, which would seemingly also confirm the rumour that Pol will join Honda for MotoGP season 2021.

Danilo Petrucci will partner Iker Lecuona at Red Bull KTM Tech3 for the ’21 campaign. Both will be riding a factory KTM RC16, likewise Brad Binder and Miguel Oliveira will ride for the premier Red Bull KTM Factory Racing.

While Miguel Oliveira moves into the factory set-up alongside the already announced Brad Binder, Red Bull KTM Tech3 will count on the knowledge and wisdom of nine seasons of MotoGP experience accumulated by Petrucci for 2021. The 29-year has gathered nine podium finishes so far in the class and has ridden three different bikes since entering Grand Prix in 2012.

Hervé Poncharal – Red Bull KTM Tech3 Team Manager

“What an exciting time for a MotoGP team to announce his future line-up. We are extremely happy and proud, first to start racing soon in Jerez with our current riders Miguel Oliveira and Iker Lecuona. We believe 2020 can be a really successful season for KTM in general and I hope also for Red Bull KTM Tech3. During this long wait before we could start racing again, we had to think together with the Red Bull KTM organization about the 2021 line-up. We could see the leader, Pol Espargaro was leaving and since then we had a lot of meetings and finally, we are delighted to announce our decision. The Factory Team will be having their dream duo with Miguel Oliveira and Brad Binder and clearly this will be a strong pair. They will carry the KTM flag high, I’m sure. Back to Red Bull KTM Tech3, I’m sure this is a bit of a surprise to the fans and the media, because we can confirm today, that Iker Lecuona, the youngest rider of the MotoGP grid at the moment, is going to be with us again in 2021. We are all and I am personally very happy about that, because it was a big move from Iker to jump on a MotoGP bike, but unfortunately the sanitary situation didn’t give him a lot of chances yet to show what he can do during a MotoGP race, but it was clear from everybody, that we will give him another opportunity after the 2020 season to be with us in 2021. I see Iker as a potential leader in the MotoGP class in the near future. Now, Ladies and Gentlemen, let’s come to the big surprise: we will have the pleasure to welcome Mr. Danilo Petrucci with us from 2021. Danilo is a man, that I respect a lot. He is a man that is a ‘normal’ guy, who is always saying hello to everyone, who has a lot of charisma and a great sense of humor. On top of that – and maybe even more important – he is also a team player and a MotoGP winner. Never forget that he won the Mugello GP last year, which is such an important race for an Italian rider on an Italian bike, beating Marc Marquez and Andrea Dovizioso, which is not an easy task, but also finishing sixth in the World Championship. I think his experience and his knowledge will help our MotoGP project to grow and to move on. His always positive attitude and his will to share and to work with a team, which behaves like a family, is exactly what he will find in Tech3. I know him for quite a while and we always shared good moments. The last thing, I would like to say is, that the fact, we have the most experienced rider out of the four inside our Tech3 organization means that there is now no more satellite or factory team. There are four factory Red Bull KTM riders on the grid with the same support, the same equipment and this is showing us the support that factory KTM is giving to the team, because this is not always the case with different manufacturers. I would like to thank Stefan Pierer, Hubert Trunkenpolz and Pit Beirer to clearly show the world that there will be four factory riders and the two Tech3 riders will be part of them. These are exciting news and it is an exciting program. Of course, there are still many races and we haven’t started the 2020 MotoGP World Championship yet. We want to do 2020, but we are also already impatient to start working with our 2021 crew. Thanks to everybody involved in that organization, again thanks to Red Bull KTM and also to Elf, who have been on our side since the beginning of this adventure.”

Danilo Petrucci’s determination, coupled with his grounded character and work ethic, will make an apt foil for team-mate Lecuona. The 20-year old Spaniard is waiting to begin his first term in MotoGP in 2020 and recently re-signed to race again for Red Bull KTM Tech3 in 2021.

Iker Lecuona

“I would like to truly thank Red Bull KTM Tech3 for the confidence they are placing in me for their 2021 project. I felt very good with the new RC16 from day one and the bike has really progressed from the configuration we used in the 2019 Valencia race. I think we can make some great races with this machine. Signing for 2021 gives me enough peace of mind to be able to fight for my goal of being Rookie of the Year. I feel like I’m in a great family here.”

Brad Binder and Miguel Oliveira have been confirmed to represent Red Bull KTM Factory Racing in 2021. The South African and Portuguese, former Moto3 and Moto2 team-mates, will reunite in the premier class.

Miguel Oliveira moves into the factory set-up alongside Binder for what will be his third term in MotoGP and his sixth in total with KTM. The 25-year old will have completed two campaigns as part of Red Bull KTM Tech3 even if 2019 was curtailed with a blameless shoulder problem and 2020 has so far been blighted by repercussions of the COVID-19 virus. Oliveira impressed with nine points-scoring results and a strong top eight classification at the Grand Prix of Austria in his rookie season during 2019.

Binder, 24, has yet to make his MotoGP debut in 2020 but inked a new contract to remain in Red Bull KTM Factory Racing colors for 2021. The South African has been part of the Red Bull KTM family since 2015 and became the company’s third Moto3 World Champion in 2016; lodging all of his 15 GP victories ‘in orange’.

Both riders have won Moto3 and Moto2 Grands Prix for KTM and have come through a structure that the company have labelled the ‘KTM GP Academy’; a system of talent recognition and support that stretches from the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup through the FIM World Championship categories.

Binder and Oliveira are familiar with each other’s characters and working methods having previously been team-mates in the Red Bull KTM Ajo squad in Moto3 in 2015 and then Moto2 in 2017 and 2018. They have appeared on a Grand Prix podium together six times: notably three in a row towards the end of the 2017 Moto2 championship.

Brad Binder

“I’m incredibly excited to be able to have another season on the Red Bull Factory Racing RC16 and I’m really looking forward to getting this year underway and my first MotoGP race under my belt. It’s an honor to have this opportunity and I’m looking at a bright future with KTM and some great times to come.”

Miguel Oliveira

“I’m really happy about this opportunity that KTM have given me for the next two years. I feel that they trust me to show my value as a rider in this project. Since day one I have given my best to the bike and believed in its potential to achieve good results and this is what we want to deliver in the near future. I think we are in the right place to do it, and for me to develop as a rider. It’s a great, great opportunity. We still have to focus on 2020 but I feel grateful for this great challenge. Thanks to the KTM family.”

Pit Beirer – KTM Motorsport Director

“It gives me great pleasure to stick these four hungry guys together for our MotoGP program. Brad and Miguel have a productive working relationship and have shown the talent and the desire to win races through all stages of Grand Prix. We believe they have the determination necessary to push our MotoGP project forward. The same goes for Red Bull KTM Tech3 where we’re happy to bring Danilo into the family. His experience counts for a lot but we’re also banking on a rider that is committed and with the right attitude. We believe he still has something to show in MotoGP. On one side we are investing in MotoGP front-runners ‘of the future’ but they could easily become stars already in 2021 and that would be exciting to see. We have two set-ups but really it is one big team with all four athletes on the same bikes and with the same possibilities. Our riders’ development and success will be a great KTM story and it will taste even sweeter to take these guys to new heights in such a tough competition.”

Mike Leitner – Red Bull KTM Race Manager

“We have two very talented riders in Red Bull KTM Factory Racing for 2021 and we’ve seen in both Moto2 and Moto3 what they are able to do. It’s great to be able to bring both of them through the ranks into MotoGP. Miguel has already made positive first steps in the category and performed so well at Red Bull Ring last year. He was unlucky with the crash at Silverstone because he suffered with his shoulder for the rest of the season. We expect him to have a good championship this year and be even more ready to change set-ups for 2021. For Brad we know his skills and potential as a rider. Of course, he is the rookie but we’ll bring him up to speed in 2020 and help him to learn the category to be stronger for 2021. Right now, we’re looking forward to racing in 2020 and have to thank everyone that managed to make a race calendar happen this summer. We are very confident with our current rider line-up: as we said, Brad will learn, and Pol has a great chance to get some decent results. We cannot wait.”

The 2020 FIM MotoGP World Championship will finally get underway with a double-header event – the Grandes Premios Red Bull de España and Andalucía – at the Circuito de Jerez in southern Spain on July 19th and 26th.
