The Progressive International Motorcycle Show has announced its immersive new rider feature, Discover the Ride, is expanding to reach a broader audience of non-riders, joining the 2019 Dallas-Fort Worth Auto Show, which takes place March 27-31.
Discover the Ride will feature four experiential attractions:
The Dyno Experience, where riders can experience the thrill of riding a real Yamaha or Harley-Davidson motorcycle while safely secured in place.
The New Rider Course, where riders progress from Yamaha Power Assist Bicycles to Zero Electric motorcycles, riding on an indoor course.
The Kids Zone in partnership with StayCyc, giving kids the opportunity to experience two wheels.
New To 2 Seminars featuring industry experts answering new and non-rider questions about motorcycling.
Attendees can also see a selection of custom and rare, restored vintage motorcycles as well as new models from Confederate Motorcycles, Yamaha and Harley-Davidson.
Catching the DFW Auto Show’s attention is a major milestone, not only for Discover the Ride, but for the overarching industry.Through a safe, fun and quick introduction to riding, Discover the Ride is paving the way for the larger motorcycle industry by initiating educational conversations and addressing hesitations, that will in turn, encourage consumers to take the first step toward becoming a motorcyclist.
In the midst of industry-wide ridership concerns, Discover the Ride successfully took the industry’s first stride toward bridging the gap for non-riders to experience the thrill of two wheels. In fact, in its first year alone, nearly 8,000 attendees of all ages participated in Discover the Ride over the course of seven shows, with more than a quarter of adults being new to motorcycling.
The MotoGP™ rookie raised eyebrows to end the Qatar Test in P2 ahead of the opening weekend’s action and with a P5 on Day 1, how was the Frenchman feeling? Second fastest Yamaha, ahead of teammate Franco Morbidelli and quicker than nine-time World Champion Valentino Rossi (Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP) on very similar machinery bodes well:
Have you ever read one of our international tour stories and thought, “Wow, I’d love to do that…but I don’t know where to start!” Well, we’ve got you covered! For our 2019 International Tour Company Guide, we’ve compiled this handy list of tour operators that will help you find your perfect two-wheeled trip abroad. All of the operators listed here offer multi-day, fully guided street and/or adventure bike tours on their own rental motorcycles, employ English-speaking guides, and include accommodations while on tour. What’s not included in this list? Single-day tours, self-guided tours, chartered group tours and tours that require you to use your own bike.
Keep in mind that prices may not be directly comparable. Some companies include things like the motorcycle rental, meals, tolls, fuel, excursions and even drinks with dinner, others don’t. There may be a surcharge for a single rider in his or her own hotel room (as opposed to sharing a room), and the charge for a passenger can vary from company to company. Also pay attention to the currency in which a tour is priced. Exchange rates can fluctuate, so your final cost can depend on when you pay for the tour.
Before you book, make sure you know how much insurance coverage you’re required to have or pay for. Some operators will put a multi-thousand dollar charge on your credit card to cover possible damage, which is refunded after the tour. Make sure your personal travel insurance covers motorcycle riding, and it’s a good idea to have supplemental insurance that covers repatriation, medical costs, trip cancellation and personal liability. Medjetassist.com, medexassist.com, travelguard.com and geobluetravelinsurance.com are great places to start.
Finally, make sure your passport has at least six months left on it–from the date of travel, not when you book! Check with the tour operator to see if you need a visa or an international driver’s license (available at your local AAA). Oh, one more thing–have fun!

Viñales and Miller kept P2 and P3, with Danilo Petrucci (Mission Winnow Ducati) 0.673 back in fourth. Rookie Fabio Quartararo (Petronas Yamaha SRT) had a great session, the Frenchman rounding out the top five to easily get himself a provisional Q2 place, with Dovi eventually settling for P6. Morbidelli ends Friday in seventh, with Alex Rins (Team Suzuki Ecstar) jumping into the top ten on his final lap with a 1:54.320. Aleix Espargaro (Aprilia Racing Team Gresini) and Mir sit P9 and P10 respectively after strong sessions.
Just 0.010 adrift of the Brit was Alex Marquez (EG 0,0 Marc VDS) who rounded out the top five. After crashing out of FP1, Jorge Navarro (+Ego Speed Up) ended up sixth quickest ahead of Italtrans Racing Team’s Andrea Locatelli and the first of the KTM machines, Red Bull KTM Ajo’s Brad Binder.

Less than four-tenths separate fourth place Andrea Migno (Bester Capital Dubai) to 16th place John McPhee (Petronas Sprinta Racing), with the pack looking tight if you discount Canet’s pace. Gabriel Rodrigo (Kommerling Gresini Moto3), less than a week after fracturing his collarbone in testing, finished Day 1 in Qatar in an incredible fifth place. He leads Jakub Kornfeil (Redox PruestelGP) by 0.090, the Czech rider sixth on the timesheets, with Lorenzo Dalla Porta (Leopard Racing) a further 0.005 behind in seventh.
Sharing a coffee or lunch with them, Marquez has conversations with both about the good and bad moments, the problems, his riding style and evolution, remembering his battles with Ducati, some reflections that will give you a greater insight into Marc Marquez and, of course, remembering a record-breaking 2018.
Beirer is hoping Pol Espargaro (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) can continue where he left off, after earning KTM their first podium finish in the final race of the 2018 season: “We’re with Pol who knows the bike best. We saw from the test two weeks ago that we can be strong here in Qatar. We are a little surprised because we see Pol get better and better and adapt to the bike. He asks for something, we give it to him and he look better again, so that’s running perfect.
