Nadia Padovani (Gresini Racing Team Owner & Team Principal): “I would like to think that Fausto’s two families – ours and the racing one – have joined their efforts to bring forward everything he was planning, and especially the MotoGP™. To have an independent team in the premier class is surely something very demanding, with a team to be built from scratch, but I know everyone in the company is giving their 110% to make his dream come true. Personally, I see it as a real mission, a challenge we will face – also and above all – thanks to the strength of Fausto, who is following us from above. We’re currently speaking with several manufacturers and in a matter of few weeks we will reveal the details of our MotoGP™ project.”
The two girls and 16 boys are guided on their way by experienced coaches. With a comprehensive program, the participants were trained in the areas of regulations, racing medicine, media relations and technique during the roll-out. In addition, Riding Coach Andy Meklau and the instructors from Projekt Spielberg worked with the pilots to improve their driving skliss, first at the Red Bull Ring Driving Center and then in extensive sessions on the 4.3-kilometer MotoGP track. AJC participants will also be offered numerous training opportunities in the upcoming months. On a total of five race weekends this year, the youngsters will have an unprecedented opportunity in Austria to prove that they have what it takes to become MotoGP drivers.
Race two was the pick of the weekend with a scintillating on-track battle took place. Edmunds was looking at continuing his 100% start to the season and led away off the line ahead of Holt, Scofield and a lighting starting Warwick Brady who was making his return after a season ending injury took away most of his 2020 campaign. The weekend had gone all the way of Edmunds, but Holt had started to look much more racy on his new bike and held onto the rear tyre of Edmunds for the entirety of the race and with a final lap tantalisingly close, Edmunds just did enough to hold off Holt as the pair crossed the line split by a tenth of a second. Luke Scofield made another trip to the podium in a lonely third, but crucially keeping himself in the early season title picture.
Michelin has been the official tyre supplier to the MotoGP™ class since 2016, bringing their excellence and expertise to the world’s fastest motorcycle racing Championship. Since, MotoGP™ has enjoyed one of its most competitive eras of all time as lap records are routinely broken, and it just keeps getting closer. Each of the ten closest top 15 finishes in premier class history have occurred since 2018, and the closest-ever was the 2021 Grand Prix of Doha.
“The emotion was so different from the when I got here (Portimao), because here, you know, you start first, you start building up this gap, and you sort of expect that, as you come around five laps to go, you know, already that you’re going to win. And until the last corner, I didn’t know if I was going to end it up. third or fourth? idea. Yeah. So it was crazy. Yeah.”
Marquez was by and away the most popular transfer of the past week and, unsurprisingly, the man sitting second on the list is back-to-back Grands Prix winner Fabio Quartararo (Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP). The Frenchman is on fire at the moment but that means his price has skyrocketed as a result, now up to 3.1M. Don’t be put off by that price though, as Quartararo should be a top priority ahead of Jerez if you haven’t already got the MotoGP™ World Championship leader in your team.
The opening three rounds has seen Rossi struggle as he adapts to new surroundings in the Petronas Yamaha garage, but despite his woes, there have been moments of promise. In the season opener, he earned a P4 starting position, while in Portimao he showed some encouraging pace to fight his way into the points scoring positions, before unfortunately crashing out.
