Currently leading the championship with just three rounds remaining over two weekends, Luke Clout says his current position calls for him to seek out the experience of the highly-successful CDR Yamaha Monster Energy team as he vies for the premier class crown in the 2019 Pirelli MX Nationals.

The 2014 Australian MX2 champion shot to the top of the leaderboard at Maitland two weeks ago, where he claimed a thrilling overall victory and bridged a slender gap over rivals Hayden Mellross (Raceline KTM Thor) and Todd Waters (DPH Motorsport Husqvarna).

“The team and I have been working on some stuff with myself, and that’s one of the things – they’ve won lots of championships, and they’ve won the last three years in a row, so the team has really been working with me,” Clout explained to following his Maitland triumph.

“They actually sat me down [at Maitland] and helped me get through it – they gave me a lot of pointers. They’ll continue to do that throughout the next few rounds. Having that knowledge and experience really helps me – I listen to every word they say, and I try and do exactly what they say as well. Having Dacka and Gary with all that experience, it’s definitely beneficial.”

Clout leads Mellross by nine points, while Waters – who held the red-plate for two rounds in the second half – sits in third, 12 points behind the number four as round eight looms this weekend at Moree in New South Wales.
