Dean Ferris returns to Factory Honda fold in 2022

Dean Ferris returns to racing Factory Honda for 2022

Honda Australia welcomes three-time Australian Motocross Champion Dean Ferris back to competitive racing onboard the Honda CRF450R in 2022, as he makes a return from retirement.

Ferris has achieved an incredible amount in the last 10 years; competing in the World MX Grand Prix’s achieving 21 top 10 finishes, including a win and three podiums across the 450 (MX1) and 250 (MX2) classes, not to mention his domination in the Australian Motocross Championship, winning three titles in a row.

Dean Ferris is back with Factory Honda in 2022

Ferris had modest success with the Factory Honda Team in 2008 and 2009 before a stellar year as a privateer on a Honda in 2010.

Dean Ferris

“I am excited for what is to come with Honda! While healing from my back injury, I wasn’t sure what my racing future looked like so I made the call to retire, as I thought it best at the time for myself and my family. Since then, the break has allowed me the freedom to ride again without any pressure which got me back to the basics of why I love to ride. I’ve spent a lot of time reflecting and realised that I still have the desire to race competitively in Australia. It’s been a wild ride so far, Europe was intense, a challenge I enjoyed but it was unfortunate that some injuries marred my overall results. It’s been a minute since I’ve raced for Honda, back when I was last riding for them it was actually their first full season as Honda’s Factory program so I can see they have come a long way since then. Yarrive is dedicated to the sport and to Honda so I feel it’s going to be a prosperous partnership.”

Honda Australia General Manager of Sales, Tony Hinton welcomed Ferris back to Honda and believes the racing calendar will go ahead in its entirety next year.

Tony Hinton

“Dean has achieved more than most Australian racers internationally due to his determination. It will be fantastic to see Dean race our new CRF450R and we look forward to see him in action. We wish him and the team the greatest success.”

Team director Yarrive Konsky also welcomed Ferris back to the Honda Racing team, admitting there is unfinished business.

Yarrive Konsky

“When Dean first came to us, it was my first year running the factory program. As you’d expect a lot has changed over that time, our program has grown considerably and I am proud that we are a threat for Championships every time we line up. Having a rider of Dean’s ability and experience only makes our program stronger. I certainly look forward to working with him, learning from him, from his experiences and making this team as successful as possible. The new Honda CRF450R is proven around the world with Roczen, Gajser and Sexton showing its capabilities, so we look forward to getting Dean on one and getting to work for 2022.”

Africa Twin based sports-tourer revealed – Honda NT1100

2022 Honda NT1100

We knew an Africa Twin powered sports-touring machine was coming from Honda and tonight we can reveal the full details, meet the new NT1100.

We really like the 1084 cc parallel-twin here at MCNews.com.au, it might only make just a tick over 100 horsepower but, for a parallel twin, it has a heap of character and grunts along really well thanks to 104 Nm at 6250 rpm.

2022 Honda NT1100 with optional panniers

The dual-clutch transmission also works fantastic in its latest guises and I have no doubt the six-speed semi-auto box will work brilliantly in the new NT1100.  You pay a 10 kg penalty for choosing DCT over the conventional manual, but in our experience the extra reciprocating weight of the DCT clutches, and other paraphernalia that makes the magic happen, actually adds a little more engine character into the equation, making the bike feel as though it is running a heavier crank.  Kerb weight ready to ride with a full 20.4-litre fuel tank is a claimed 238 kg for the manual, 248 kg for the auto. An optional quick-shifter is available for the manual version.

2022 Honda NT1100

The 6.5-inch full-colour TFT screen complete with Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto also makes the transition from the Africa Twin.

2022 Honda NT1100 with optional panniers

The backbone of the machine is the proven steel semi-double cradle frame and bolt-on sub-frame that has been well proven on the adventure machine. For dedicated road use in the NT chassis geometry is changed from the Africa Twin with rake/trail set at 26.5-degrees/108 mm but a decent 175 mm of ground clearance is retained.

2022 Honda NT1100 with optional panniers

We are somewhat surprised at just how large the five-stage adjustable screen and how expansive the overall weather and wind protection is on the NT1100.

2022 Honda NT1100 fitted with optional panniers, top-box and backrest

It certainly looks as though it might be one of the most comfortable sports-touring machines on the market, with the emphasis on touring of course, it won’t rip your arms off like a Superduke GT or some of the other 150+ horsepower beasts that now dominate the category.

Honda NT1100

Cruise control and heated grips are standard while the expansive looking stepped seat has a quoted height of 820 mm which should make it easily manageable for most.

2022 Honda NT1100 with optional panniers

Expansive integrated hard panniers are standard in some markets but will be optional accessories in Australia. They are tucked in well at the rear which makes the widest part of the rear of the bike only 901 mm.  Volume is 33 litres on the left and 32 litres on the right. An optional 50-litre top-box expands storage further.

2022 Honda NT1100 with optional panniers

A USB socket, centre-stand and auxiliary power socket are all standard fitment. As is LED lighting throughout.

2022 Honda NT1100

Showa provide the suspension. Inverted 43 mm forks adjustable for pre-load and rebound damping while the rear shock has hydraulically assisted pre-load adjustment. Travel is 150 mm at both ends. No mention so far of the Showa semi-active electronic suspension that can be optioned on the Africa Twin.

Honda NT1100

Rim and rubber sizes are strictly road focussed with a 120/70-17 front and 180/55-17 rear.

2022 Honda NT1100

310 mm discs and Nissin four-piston radial calipers take care of the stopping duties up front assisted by a 256 mm rear with both ends backed up by ABS.

Honda NT1100

Traction and wheelie control are also standard and switchable through three levels of intervention. ‘Urban’, ‘Rain’ and ‘Tour’ are the standard modes while two more user selectable modes enable the rider to set their own mix of preferences and save them as favourites.

The NT1100 is due in Australia some time in the second quarter of 2022 but pricing details are not going to be released until closer to its arrival. If it lands at somewhere around 20k ride away we reckon it will win plenty of fans. I am certainly looking forward to throwing a leg over it.

Jett Lawrence wins AMA Pro Motocross 250MX Championship

Jett Lawrence

2021 AMA Pro Motocross 250 Champion

Jett Lawrence – 2021 AMA Pro Motocross 250 Champion

18-year-old Jett Lawrence today became the first Australian to ever win the 2021 AMA Pro Motocross 250MX Championship. Older brother and team-mate Hunter Lawrence finished third in the title chase, having taken two moto wins and one overall victory, making the Lawrences the only brothers to both finish an AMA Pro Motocross Championship in the top three.

Jett (#18) and brother Hunter (#41) celebrate together

After Frenchman Dylan Ferrandis wrapped up the 450 Title last week this also marks the first time in history that both of the premier American Motocross Championships were won by foreigners in the same year.

Jett Lawrence

Jett kicked off the series with an overall win at the opener in May, then notched podium overall results at the next three rounds. The middle part of the season brought a comparative dip, though he was never worse than sixth overall, and round eight saw him back on top of the overall podium in New Berlin, New York. A second-overall result at round nine continued his late-season surge, with flawless 1-1 overall victories in Crawfordsville, Indiana, and at the second Pala round. Jett overcame poor starts and inopportune falls during today’s finale at Prairie City SVRA, a half-hour east of Sacramento, to secure the Gary Jones Motocross Cup.

18-year-old Australian Jett Lawrence

Oh my goodness, it’s a good day in the end,” Jett Lawrence said. “I think that’s the worst I’ve ridden in a while, but I still got the title. It feels so great, as we’ve been working quite a while to get this. I’ve got to thank the whole crew for getting me here—my brother, my whole family, my manager and all of Honda and HRC. It’s awesome and we’re going to enjoy it for a little while, but then it will be back to the drawing board for next season to hopefully back it up.”

Jett Lawrence

Natives of Landsborough, in Queensland, Australia, Jett and Hunter earned amateur success Down Under as youngsters. After dabbling in international racing (Jett earned the 2014 65cc World Championship in Belgium, at age 11), the Lawrence family moved to Europe fulltime to pursue the brothers’ motocross dreams, with Jett getting his feet wet in the 2016 German ADAC series and 85 European Motocross Championship. Two years later, he made the jump to the highly competitive 250 European Motocross Championship at age 14.

Jett Lawrence

In 2019 the Lawrence family relocated to the U.S., where the brothers raced for the Honda-backed Factory Connection squad (Hunter as a pro and Jett initially as an amateur before turning 16 and making his pro debut midway through the AMA Pro Motocross series). Last season saw him net his first overall victory at the final round and take the Marty Smith Rookie of the Year Award, before he and Hunter advanced to the factory Team Honda HRC program for 2021. In his short time as a pro, Jett has already amassed a huge following of dedicated fans.

Jett Lawrence

While this is Jett’s first AMA crown, he joins an elite list of Honda riders who have notched a total of 13 AMA Motocross National Championships in the 250MX division (previously for 125cc two-strokes); others include Marty Smith, Johnny O’Mara (now the Lawrence brothers’ trainer), Ron Lechien, Micky Dymond, George Holland, Mike Kiedrowski, Doug Henry, Steve Lamson, Trey Canard (now the Team Honda HRC test rider) and Eli Tomac. That said, the title is Honda’s first in the class since 2013.

I’m so proud of Jett and the entire Honda team for this accomplishment,” said Brandon Wilson, Manager of Sports & Experiential at American Honda. “Working with Jett and his family has been an absolute pleasure—obviously for his on-the-bike accomplishments, but also because they’re just good people. On behalf of everyone at American Honda and HRC, thank you Jett, for putting Honda back on top in AMA Pro Motocross. We can’t wait to see what the future holds for you.

After a short break, Jett and Team Honda HRC will turn their attention to developing the 2022 CRF250R in preparation for next year’s AMA Supercross series, which is scheduled to kick off January 8 in Anaheim, California.

Honda 500 range significantly updated for 2022

Honda CBR500R – CB500F -CB500X

Honda’s versatile 471 cc parallel-twin 500 platform receives some significant upgrades for model year 2022 and will arrive in Australia later this year, the last quarter of 2021.

Honda CBR500R

The pricing for the updated range will be announced closer to the release date and while in recent COVID times the prices of the CB500F, CB500X and CBR500R have crept up a little, as of now they are still all well under the 10k mark, and we hope they continue to stay under that marker.

Honda CB500X

We are big fans of the 500 Honda models, the sporty looking CBR500R, stylish CB500F naked and practical CB500X are all great motorcycles, but for us older blokes the practicality and ergonomics of the CB500X make it the stand out of the range. It is a ripper of a do-it-all motorcycle that is far more enjoyable than the uninitiated would expect.

CB500X has always been our pick of the litter

In some ways we also prefer the 500 twins over the comparable four-cylinder 650 cc offerings in the Honda range. The 650s really feel nobbled to meet the Australian LAMS registration scheme for new riders, thus they can feel a bit unnatural, while in contrast the little parallel twins work their hearts out and provide a more rewarding ride as a result as their power delivery feels more fluid.

In LAMS form we much prefer the 471 cc parallel twin of the 500 series over the artificially constrained 650 cc four-cylinder models

For 2022 the 500 models score 41 mm Showa big-piston inverted forks (SFF-BP) to raise their suspension credentials while the rear shock has a new spring rate and damping settings to match the new forks and offers five-stage pre-load adjustment.

Showa 41mm Separate Function Fork Big Piston (SFF-BP) inverted forks

Brakes also go up in spec’ with the single 320 mm rotor now replaced by a pair of 296 mm discs and radial-mount Nissin two-piston calipers.

The single 320mm and two-piston caliper front brake from the previous model has been replaced by dual 296mm discs and Nissin radial-mount, two-piston calipers.

Honda claim this means there is now effort required through the lever which is a change that will be most appreciated.

Less effort at the braking lever will be appreciated when pressing on

CBR500R and CB500F chassis geometry has been changed to a more forward weight bias for sportier handling response. All three models score stiffer new swing-arms.

A more forward weight bias should result in sharper cornering performance

But of course in the youth focussed learner market looks can be everything, and here Honda have also gone to work and updated the styling of the range.

Honda CB500X
Honda CBR500R
Honda CB500F

It is unclear as yet as to whether Honda’s very popular CMX500 learner legal cruiser will also score any significant updates for 2022.

Honda CBR500R

We look forward to experiencing the new chassis and braking package on the CBR500R, CB500F and CB500X when the machines arrive late this year. We are big fans of the current models so I am sure they will not disappoint.

New look for 2022 Africa Twin along with DCT refinements

2022 Honda Africa Twin & Africa Twin Adventure Sports

Honda have taken the covers off the 2022 Africa Twin, with the standard variant now featuring a rear carrier rack as standard and now presented in new colours and graphics.

2022 Honda Africa Twin
2022 Honda Africa Twin

The Adventure Sports variant receives some additional updates, with the DCT equipped versions benefiting from further refinements to the Dual-Clutch Transmission settings, a shorter adjustable five-position screen and new ‘Cracked Terrain’ graphics. On the top of the line DCT ES version, Showa Electronically Equipped Ride Adjustment is also standard.

Honda’s exclusive six-speed DCT system runs three modes, with MT offering full manual control, D for automatic city and highway riding for fuel efficiency, while S is designed for sporty riding, with the ECU holding gears longer between up-shifts, as well as down-shifting more aggressively for extra engine braking.

Updates to the DCT focus on first and second gear settings
Updates to the DCT focus on first and second gear settings

The changes for 2022 have seen first and second gear settings tailored to smoother low-speed handling, with a focus on very low speeds and standing starts.

The Showa Electronically Equipped Ride Adjustment or Showa EERA meanwhile, offers tailored damping front and rear, with spring pre-load to suit load and riding conditions. This can be controlled via four settings, for different riding conditions.

Showa EERA will also be standard on the top 'ES' spec Adventure Sports
Showa EERA will also be standard on the top ‘ES’ spec Adventure Sports

Soft offers low damping force and a focus on smoothness, with Hard running the highest damping force. Mid is an all-round setting, while Off-Road raises fork damping forces as stroke speed rises, while also running higher damping settings on the rear shock.

The rear shock can also have the spring pre-load adjusted electronically while stationary, with setups for solo riding, solo with luggage, two-up riding and two up with luggage. For those who like to dial their system in specifically to their own needs, there’s also a User option which allows fine tuning of damping front and rear with 24-points of rear spring preload.

New look for Honda's 2022 Africa Twin!
The new of Honda’s 2022 Africa Twin is also eye-catching

The updates join the existing Africa Twin’s liquid-cooled 1084 cc SOHC eight-valve parallel-twin, backed by a Bosch six-axis IMU, which is integrated into the four power modes, three levels of engine braking, seven-level Honda Selectable Torque Control, and cornering ABS, with an off-road setting. Plus three levels of wheelie control and rear lift control. These are accessed via four preset riding modes – Tour, Urban, Gravel and Off-Road, with two modifiable modes.

Peak power is claimed at 75 kW, with 105Nm peak torque. The engine was significantly updated previously in the 2020 model year along with a boost in capacity.

The engine continues to offer 75 kW, with 2020 the big engine update

A 6.5 inch TFT touchscreen is also features, with multi-information display, USB and BT connectivity as well as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Fuel capacity on the standard Africa Twin is 18.8 L, while on the Adventure Sports variants that increases to 24.8 L, with seat height across all models 870 mm, with a 850 mm low setting available.

The Adventure Sport offers a larger 24.8 L fuel capacity

The frame is a steel semi-double cradle frame, also redesigned in 2020, mated to a aluminium sub-frame, with CRF450R-style swingarm also in aluminium. Showa provide 45 mm forks across all models, with that upgraded to the Showa EERA on the top model, with a Showa monoshock, also upgraded to an EERA unit on the ES version.

Wheels are a 21 x 2.15 wire-spoke front and 18 x 4.00 wire-spoke rear, both with aluminium rims, while brakes are dual four-piston radial calipers on 310 mm wave rotors on the front and a 256 mm wave rotor with single-piston caliper on the rear.

The Africa Twin will be available in four variants in 2022
The Africa Twin will be available in four variants in 2022, two with and two without DCT in Australia

The entire 2022 Honda Africa Twin range is due to arrive in Q4 of 2021, with the standard Africa Twin to be available for $20,999 MLP, in either Pearl Glare White, Grand Prix Red. The Africa Twin Adventure Sports will be $24,699 MLP in Pearl Glare White or Matte Ballistic Black, while the Adventure Sports DCT arrives from $25,649 MLP in Pearl Glare White, with the top of the line Adventure Sports DCT ES $27,799 MLP and also Pearl Glare White.

Honda CB1000R 5Four custom

5Four Motorcycles – CB1000R 5Four custom

5Four Motorcycles has teamed up with Honda UK and revealed a new custom special, in the form of the CB1000R 5Four, which will be produced in a limited run and be available for £16,954 OTR via local Honda Dealers in the UK. That’s converts to an eye-watering $32,000 in Aussie pesos.

Honda CB1000R 5Four

Guy Willison of 5Four Motorcycles has been featured on The Motorbike Show as well as other programmes, and is a professional bike designer and builder, as well as the brains behind this latest creation.

Guy Willison

“Now here is an already fabulous bike crying out for the 5Four treatment. An obvious starting point? The rear. The 5Four tail tidy has no exterior bracketry so the lines are clean. We’ve also fitted a slim LED rear light enabling the number plate to be mounted as high as possible revealing the whole of the rear tyre. The 5Four composite fairing has been designed to flow with the existing lines of the bike and offer some respite from the elements for the rider and carries an individually numbered Limited Edition badge. Each bike comes with a fantastic Racefit titanium Growler X exhaust to enhance the single sided swingarm and beautiful new for 2021 spoked wheels; we’ve also fitted black adjustable dog-leg levers with anodized red adjusters and billet mirrors. The supple leather seat has been hand-stitched in the trademark 5Four diamond-padded pattern and, for the paint, we’ve brought the Works Hondas of old bang-up-to-date with stunning candy red, blue and pearl white. 2022 Honda CRF250R | Huge revamp for Honda’s MX2 machine

2022 Honda CRF250R

No doubt this is largely what Australian wunderkinds Hunter and Jett Lawrence have been riding to victory in AMA Pro Motocross and Supercross this year but now Honda have revealed the new for 2022 CRF250R that the likes of you and me can walk in and purchase from a Honda dealer, even if we are not ‘factory’.

Aussie brothers Hunter (pictured) and Jett Lawrence have been scoring plenty of success for Honda on the CRF250R

Those updates to the 2022 edition of the CRF250R will include increased power, reduced weight and improvements to reliability, with a focus on usability.

The 249 cc liquid-cooled DOHC single-cylinder receives modifications to the air intake including new 4.1 L airbox, revised valve timing and a straightened exhaust port, with a single exhaust header and muffler system replacing the previous dual muffler setup saving 1.7 kg.

2022 Honda CRF250R

Injector angle is also updated to 60° from 30°, with the bike now running double springs on the intake valves, alongside a press-fit intake cam sprocket, and revised oil pathway to the camshaft journals. Valves continue to be titanium, with 33 mm inlet and 26 mm exhaust units.

The 2022 CRF250R boasts 20% more power at 6500 rpm

Increasing the air box capacity helps boost torque at low speeds, and there’s a new air filter shape to match. All up that offers a 20 per cent boost in power at 6500 rpm, without trading off any of the top-end performance. Averaged out, Honda reckon that means 10 per cent more power and 15 per cent more torque across the rev range.

2022 Honda CRF250R

Also updated is the radiator and shroud, improving air flow and in turn cooling efficiency, optimising the mounting angle and number of fins used, with the area of heat radiation boosted six per cent, and overall surface area increased two per cent.

4 kg has also been shaved off the kerb weight

Also improved is the clutch, with the new nine-plate design aimed at providing better durability and hook-up, for better engagement and a lighter pull at the lever. There’s also an additional friction spring in the damper chamber, as well as a more rigid clutch centre. The gearbox also receives a revised layout, with all gear ratios also optimised, with first and third taller, while second, fourth and fifth are shorter.

2022 Honda CRF250R

The new shift pattern runs one shift fork going from second up to third, instead of the previous two, with two lead grooves (down from three) and improves countershaft rigidity for less friction. The shift drum is also 17 per cent lighter, with Honda promising better shift feel between second and third as a result.

The focus on the chassis was in weight savings, alongside improvements to the ergonomics, which with the exhaust updates has helped shave four kg off the weight, for 104 kg in total, at the kerb.

A single muffler setup is also now run, helping save weight

The redesigned frame takes inspiration from the CRF450R, with lateral ridigity reduced by 20 per cent, 700 g weight shaved off and narrower main spares, alongside more easily removed bodywork.

That includes a narrower side cover and lowered seat rear end, with the subframe also shedding 320 g and the swingarm rigidity revised to match the rest of the chassis.

2022 Honda CRF250R

The number of 8 mm bolts on each side for bodywork goes from six down to four, while the bike as a whole is 70 mm slimmer, mainly on the side now now sporting an exhaust, which is 50 mm narrower. The tank cover has also been removed with the titanium tank redesigned and carrying 6.3L of fuel.

The frame has also been updated, inspired by the CRF450R

Front suspension will be a set of Showa inverted 49 mm forks, with full adjustability and 272 mm of travel. At the rear is a monoshock with preload, compression and rebound adjustment and 313 mm travel, plus a new Pro-Link with different ratio.

Brakes are a 260 mm wave front rotor with dual-piston caliper, while the rear runs a 240 mm rotor with single-piston caliper, with no changes seen in this area.

The CRF250R continues to offer features like electric start, launch control and engine maps

Seat height is 961 mm with the reduction in seat height only seen at the back of the seat now overall, with a 1477 mm wheelbase – reduced by 9 mm compared to the old model, while 333 mm of ground clearance is a small boost. The rake and trail have also been tightened up, to 27.2° and 115 mm respectively.

2022 Honda CRF250R

Standard is the HRC Launch Control system, three engine maps and electric start, as well as Renthal Fatbar Flex as standard fitment and DID rims.

The 2022 Honda CRF250R is due to arrive in September, 2021 and will be priced at an MLP of $12,199 in Extreme Red. For more info see the Honda Motorcycles Australia website.

Honda CB650R customs from Europe

CB650R Customs

Honda Motor Europe was planning on showcasing ten of the best European dealer- built custom CB650Rs from France, Spain and Portugal at the Wheels & Waves festival in Biarritz, France from June 30th to July 4th. Despite the show being cancelled, we can still bring you a selection of the machines here.

CB650R AKIRA

Builder: Hakuba Motor, Santander, Spain

“If there is a word that defines our concept then it is kaizen.”

From the Japanese Kaizen (meaning ‘to improve’), Hakuba Motor’s sleek CB650R Akira reflects the never-ending quest for improvements, no matter how small. The classic single seat unit is a one-off carbon-fibre creation, topped with a nubuck leather seat. CBR650R clip-on handlebars bolt straight on and the electronics are now sited in their own compartment under the seat. A titanium Arrow muffler underlines the minimalist ethos.

CB650R CAFÉ RACER

Builder: Blanmoto Honda, Girona, Spain

“A celebration of our custom dreams, and of a business founded in 1928.”

Blanmoto have gone down a ‘steam punk meets café racer’ route with their CB650R. And while its look is completely transformed, many of the parts used are from ‘mainstream’ suppliers such as Puig, PSR, Givi and Rizoma. Naturally, detail custom fabrication abounds: the seat has been modified and re-upholstered (alongside upholstered side covers) and there are new side-scoops manufactured from 1.5mm aluminium sheet.

CB650R FENIX

Builder: Mototrofa Honda, Trofa, Portugal

“The name was obvious to us as, in 2019, our workshop was completely destroyed…”

As an emblem of renewal, the CB650R Fenix is a special symbol for the entire Mototrofa team, whose dealership has risen again from the ashes of a devastating fire. And while looking totally modern it also makes use of past Honda models. The single-sided swingarm and rear wheel are from a VFR750F, the front wheel from a CBR900RR FireBlade. Custom parts include the seat and rear cowl and the ‘93’ paint scheme (by Nexx Helmets) both pays homage to the incredible Marc Marquez and marks the year Mototrofa was founded.

CB650R WHITE EDITION

Builder: 3C Motos, Anglet, France

“It’s family. To mirror the beautiful CB1000R Black Edition we have its little sister – the CB650R White Edition!”

The 3C Motos’ CB650R White Edition was conceived by 3C Motos in Biarritz to complement their moody ‘Black Edition’ CB1000R of 2019. Its paint – using matt white and varying shades of gloss white – adds texture and depth, and crowns the muscular depth of the jet-black engine and wheels. A CB1000R front master cylinder clamps neatly to the handlebar and Dunlop Sportsmart TT tyres finish the subtle – yet aggressive – look.

CB650R BMX

Builder: Werther, Nice, France

“Fun and stylish, just like doing a wheelie on a BMX bike.”

There’s more than a hint of BMX stunt bike on the Werther machine. The gloss black paint pops eyeballs, as do black forks, gold engine cases and wheels. And not to forget the whitewall tyres. For a bike built to perform, a shorter final drive gear ratio (plus black/gold chain, naturally) makes for instant acceleration, with a full Akrapovič exhaust system adding to the engine’s performance. An NMB Design seat, adjustable levers and grips, plus Puig gold bar ends and black footrests stand out, while smoked varnish on the front/rear lights and indicators are more subtle details.

CB650R KarbOne EDITION

Builder: AZ Moto, Rouen, France

“A homage to the spirit of a famous and legendary model – the Honda CB750 Four K0.”

The bike that started it all for the modern era of motorcycling, the four-cylinder CB750 ‘K0’ stunned the world in 1969, and AZ Motos CB650R KarbOne, with its metallic gold paint, pays deep respect to its illustrious forbear. SEB Auto Shop are responsible for the bespoke carbon fibre parts like the rear seat unit and headlight surround; the stunning black rims (with chromed spokes) are supplied by Evo-X Racing and wear Dunlop Mutant tyres. Black Topema epoxy paint covers the engine, handlebars, rear shock and cam cover while all the finishing parts are readily available from the likes of Puig and Chaft.

CB650R FLAT TRACKER

Builder: ADN Motos, Cognac, France

“In the spirit of vintage flat track and supermotard here is our little gem.”

Flat track DNA runs through ADN Motos’ CB650R and they’re rightly proud of it. Choice parts include a remote licence plate holder with integrated brake light and indicators, black and red Kineo spoked rims and Acerbis hand guards. The evocative nose cone and rear seat are custom fabrications while the yellow-tinted headlight glass adds a vintage feel. A twin-muffler titanium Arrow full exhaust system adds satisfactory bark and bite while Dunlop Mutant tyres have the look of cut slicks.

CB650R FOUR Limited Edition

Builder: Espace Motos, Angers, France

“Neo Sports Café rides with the legendary CB750 Four”

For Espace Motos, the legend of the CB750 Four lives on in the spirit of the Neo Sports Café family, led by the CB1000R and hugely popular CB650R. To respect the legend they added a raised, flatter brown leather seat and for the paint chose green with gold pinstriping, plus an ‘80s Honda logo. The paint also extends to the headlight surround, front mudguard, rear scoops and spring. Vintage-style bar-end mirrors, black footpegs and scrambler tyres complete the makeover.
