The CBR600RR in Grand Prix Red joins the list of returning 2024 Honda motorcycles in the company’s latest announcement.

Joining an already growing list of 2024 Honda motorcycles are 11 returning models. Included in Honda’s latest announcement are color options, pricing, and availability. 

This announcement adds to the list of new, updated, and returning models for 2024, including the new 2024 Honda Transalp middleweight adventure bike, which we tested in November, and the updated 2024 Shadow Phantom bobber-style cruiser, which we tested in September. See the previous Honda announcement for news on other returning models, including the Gold Wing family, the Rebel family, the NC750X, the Fury, and others.

The 2024 Honda CBR1000RR will be available in Grand Prix Red for $16,699 without ABS and $16,999 with ABS, and it’ll arrive in dealerships in March.

The 2024 Honda XR650L will be available in White with an MSRP of $6,999, and it’ll arrive in dealerships in March.

Honda Announces More 2023 Returning Models

In addition to previous announcements from Honda about new and returning models for 2023, including the all-new 2023 Rebel 1100T DCT “bagger” model, the company recently confirmed the return of eight motorcycle models across the sport, standard, adventure, dual-sport, and cruiser categories.

The eight returning models include the CBR650R and CBR500R sportbikes; the CB1000R, CB650R, and CB500F naked bikes; the CB500X adventure bike; the XR650L dual-sport; and the Fury cruiser. Honda says that taken as a whole, the group highlights the diversity of the company’s motorcycle offerings.

2023 Honda CB1000R

Honda says the CB1000R “touts both flair and function.” The bike features a 998cc DOHC four-cylinder engine, throttle-by-wire, three-level adjustable quickshifter, four ride modes (Standard, Rain, Sport, and User), and three levels of Engine Power (P), Engine Brake (EB), and Honda Selectable Torque Control (HSTC).

The 2023 Honda CB1000R has a 32.7-inch seat height, adjustable Showa suspension, dual 310mm floating discs and 4-piston calipers up front matched to a 2-piston caliper and 256mm disc in the rear, and two-channel ABS. It has a 4.3-gal fuel tank, and curb weight is a claimed 470 lb. 

The 2023 Honda CB1000R will come in Black and be available in February starting at $12,999.

2023 Honda CBR650R

The 2023 Honda CBR650R sportbike has a 649cc DOHC 16-valve inline-Four that Honda says has been tuned to deliver good power above 10,000 rpm, with peak power arriving at 12,000 rpm and peak torque delivered at 8,500.

The bike has a 6-speed gearbox, slip/assist clutch, and Honda Selectable Torque Control (HSTC) that can be turned off should the rider choose. It features a 31.9-inch seat height and adjustable Showa suspension. Four-piston radial-mount front brake calipers work on 310mm floating discs and are paired with a single-piston rear caliper and 240mm discs. Two-channel ABS is standard. It has a 4.1-gal fuel tank and 456-lb curb weight.

The 2023 Honda CBR650 will come in Grand Prix Red and be available in February starting at $9,899.

Honda says the 2023 Honda CB650R middleweight naked bike has excellent emissions performance, stylish aesthetics, and comfortable ergonomics, making it “ideally suited for everything from daily commutes to weekend outings on canyon backroads.”

Like it’s CBR650R stablemate, the CB650R has a 649cc DOHC 16-valve inline-Four mated to a 6-speed gearbox, slip/assist clutch, and Honda Selectable Torque Control (HSTC), as well as the same adjustable Showa suspension and stopping power. It has a 4.1-gal fuel tank and 445-lb claimed curb weight.

From an ergonomic standpoint, a 21.9-inch tapered handlebar is set forward and positioned to offer a “sporty yet comfortable” riding position, as is the foot-peg position. Seat height is 31.9 inches. The 2023 Honda CB650R comes in Matte Gray Metallic starting at $9,399.

2023 Honda CBR500R

Whether you’re a beginning looking for your first bike or a veteran rider looking for a fun ride, Honda says the 2023 CBR500R, originally launched in 2013, offers “the excitement of a sportbike in a smaller package.”

The light-middleweight sportbike has an 8-valve 471cc parallel-Twin with crankshaft pins phased in at 180 degrees, working together to create what Honda says is good low-to-midrange power and torque in the 3,000 to 7,000 rpm range.

The CBR500R features a Showa SFF-BP fork and an adjustable ProLink single-tube shock absorber found on larger-capacity sport bikes. Braking is provided by dual 296mm petal-style discs and radial-mounted Nissin two-piston calipers in the front and a single-piston caliper and 240mm petal-style disc in the rear. It has a 4.5-gal tank and 423-lb curb weight.

The CBR500R has straight, wedge-like feature lines and extended lower fairings, and the rider’s seat pad and seat unit – plus the upper and side fairings – are narrow to improve ergonomics and movement. The 2023 Honda CBR500R comes in Grand Prix Red and Sword Silver Metallic and will be available summer 2023 starting at $7,299.

Similar to the CBR500R, the CB500F naked bike was also launched in 2013 and features an 8-valve 471cc parallel-Twin and crankshaft pins firing at 180 degrees. It also shares the suspension and braking power of its stablemate.

However, Honda says the naked form of the CB500F “exudes aggression.”

“Led by the sharply chiseled headlight with extra-powerful LEDs, the machine’s stance is low-set and ready for action,” Honda states, adding that the side shrouds interlock with the fuel tank and “fully emphasize the engine, while the side covers and seat unit continue the theme of muscular angularity.” The compact front fender is drawn directly from the CB650R.

The 2023 Honda CB500F has a 4.5-gal fuel tank, and the lack of fairings shave the curb weight down to 416 lb. It will be available in February in Matte Gray Metallic starting at $6,799.

2023 Honda CB500X

Rounding out Honda’s light-middleweight family featuring the 8-valve 471cc parallel-Twin, the CB500X was also introduced in 2013. A 2016 upgrade included a larger fuel tank and more wind protection via an adjustable screen (56.9 inches and 55.5 inches). The bike also gained LED lighting, a spring preload-adjustable fork and an adjustable brake lever. Another evolution happened in 2019, with a switch to a 19-inch front wheel (from 17 inches) and longer travel suspension. The CB500X received additional improvements for the 2022 model year and is back for 2023.

2023 Honda XR650L

Honda says that with its Baja heritage, the XR650L continues to be a hit with dual-sport customers, as it “opens doors to adventure on single-track trails, dirt roads and backroads, while also delivering capable and affordable transportation in the city.”

The XR650L has a 644cc SOHC four-stroke engine, Radial Four-Valve Combustion Chamber (RFVC), and 42.5mm constant-velocity (CV) carburetor. It has a Pro-Link Showa single-shock in the rear with spring-preload, 20-position compression- and 20-position rebound-damping adjustability, and 11.0-inch travel rear shock, and in the front is a 43mm Showa fork featuring 16-position compression damping adjustability. 

It has a 21-inch front wheel, an 18-inch rear wheel, a 37-inch seat height, and 13 inches of ground clearance. With a topped off 2.8-gal fuel tank, all standard equipment, and fluids, it comes in at a curb weight of 346 lb.

The 2023 Honda XR650L is now available in White starting at $6,999.

The 2023 Honda Fury represents Honda’s cruising chopper-style design and features a liquid-cooled 1,312 52-degree V-Twin with a single-pin crankshaft and three-valve dual-plug combustion chamber. It has adjustable front and rear suspension, a 336mm disc with a twin-piston caliper up front, and 296mm disc with single-piston caliper in the rear. ABS is standard. With a 32-degree rake, hard-tail styling, and 26.9-inch seat height, Honda calls the Fury a “rolling work of art.”

If you’re looking for a light, dependable, affordable middleweight motorcycle, then Honda has several options to choose from. In addition to its Rebel 500 cruiser, there are three models in the Honda CB/R500 lineup that have been updated for 2022. The CB500X ABS adventure bike, CB500F ABS naked bike, and CBR500R ABS sportbike offer improvements in suspension, braking, and handling.

“It’s hard to find more versatile motorcycles than Honda’s 500cc CB/R models, and if you factor in affordability and reliability, nothing else even compares,” said Brandon Wilson, American Honda Manager of Sports & Experiential. “Each of these machines has been successful at addressing riders’ wide-ranging practical and recreational needs and tastes, and we’re pleased to offer them to U.S. customers in 2022, with improved performance for the new model year.”

Honda also confirmed the 2022 return of two additional street models – the CB1000R ABS naked bike and the CBR300R sportbike. All models in this announcement are available now.

Honda’s middleweight adventure bike is powered by a liquid-cooled 471cc parallel-Twin with PGM-FI and DOHC with 4 valves per cylinder. The CB500X ABS benefits from a 5-pound weight reduction thanks to a lighter front wheel and a lighter swingarm (curb weight is 439 pounds). Other upgrades for 2022 include a new inverted 41mm Showa SFF-BP (Separate Function Fork-Big Piston) fork and dual front disc brakes. The CB500X ABS has a 32.8-inch seat height and a 4.7-gallon fuel capacity. It’s available in Pearl Organic Green/Black with an MSRP of $7,199.

For those who prefer the sporty look of a motorcycle with minimal bodywork, the CB500F ABS naked bike fits the bill. Like the CB500X, for 2022 it gets an inverted 41mm Showa SFF-BP fork. It also gets dual front disc brakes with radial-mounted Nissin 4-piston calipers and lighter wheels. Curb weight has been reduced by 4 pounds, to 416 pounds. The CB500F ABS has a 31.1-inch seat height and a 4.5-gallon fuel capacity. It’s available in Matte Gray Metallic with an MSRP of $6,699.

The CB500F ABS has a 31.1-inch seat height and a 4.5-gallon fuel capacity. It’s available in Grand Prix Red or Silver Sword Metallic with an MSRP of $7,199.

Honda’s CB1000R ABS is the flagship model in the Neo-Sports Café lineup, blending aggressive naked-bike style with apex-strafing performance. MSRP is $12,999.

The CBR300R offers the look of a fully faired sportbike in an accessible package that’s perfect for new riders. It’s powered by a liquid-cooled 286cc single-cylinder engine with DOHC and four valves. There are single-disc brakes at both ends and compliant suspension with adjustable rear preload. Seat height is just 30.7 inches and curb weight is 354 pounds. Fuel capacity is 3.4 gallons, and the CBR300R gets an EPA-tested 71 mpg. It’s available without ABS for $4,899 or with ABS for $5,099, in Grand Prix Red or Matte Gray Metallic.

5Four Motorcycles has teamed up with Honda UK and revealed a new custom special, in the form of the CB1000R 5Four, which will be produced in a limited run and be available for £16,954 OTR via local Honda Dealers in the UK. That’s converts to an eye-watering $32,000 in Aussie pesos.

“Now here is an already fabulous bike crying out for the 5Four treatment. An obvious starting point? The rear. The 5Four tail tidy has no exterior bracketry so the lines are clean. We’ve also fitted a slim LED rear light enabling the number plate to be mounted as high as possible revealing the whole of the rear tyre. The 5Four composite fairing has been designed to flow with the existing lines of the bike and offer some respite from the elements for the rider and carries an individually numbered Limited Edition badge. Each bike comes with a fantastic Racefit titanium Growler X exhaust to enhance the single sided swingarm and beautiful new for 2021 spoked wheels; we’ve also fitted black adjustable dog-leg levers with anodized red adjusters and billet mirrors. A Blast From the Past

Concept motorcycles and mock-ups are the life-force that keeps motorcycle enthusiasts tied-over between big releases. If you are suffering from dream withdrawal and are looking for a fix, Honda cooked up this vintage-inspired CB1000F just for you.

This aged roadster concept was based on honda’s current CB1000R naked sportbike with your favorite parts from historic motorcycles tied into a modern-day chassis and form factor. There is no way to tell if this concept bike is ever going to see production, but according to MCN, rumors from japan compounded with the original unveiling of the CB-F Concept last spring could suggest otherwise.

The current CB1000R already a beautiful looking motorcycle, but this F edition takes the best features from the R – such as the single-sided swingarm and light-weight modern rims – and packages it along with Honda’s dangerously smooth 998cc DOHC inline-four to create this pre-modern masterpiece. It’s safe to assume that if this motorcycle came to production, the engine would be slightly detuned much like Kawasaki’s Z900RS.

The same steel spine frame and aluminum swingarm will come right from the CB1000R along with the forks and brakes; so you know this motorcycle will ride its way into a much higher category of performance than what it’s appearance may initially lead you to believe.

The body features a very vintage seat and tank, along with the graphics and headlamp looking they were ripped straight off an 80’s CB. Personally, the CBX1050 is my favorite motorcycle of all time, and I think this bike is a beautiful throwback to honda’s golden age of industry domination.

Let’s see if Honda can turn this dream into a reality.

The engine dominates, but the stylists have given this latest edition more of a tougher edge than previous models. Is there such a thing as stylishly butch? There is now.

Anyone who’s looking for a base for something a bit more special has a pretty great place to start. Single sided swinger, short rear overhang, the guts of a tough custom is already done if that’s your thing. There’s lots of new metal – with lashings of aluminium and, apparently, the CB1000R only has five bits of plastic bodywork. Front and rear mudguards, little rear hugger and two other bits… somewhere else I guess.

The engine electrics and pipework has been nicely hidden and it looks almost as though this engine was designed to be shown and not hidden behind fairings. All up, a neat job of packaging from the boys of the red wing.

Back to that engine. This time it’s a hefty step up from previous models. Main difference between this and the previous gen ‘Blade is a bump in compression, some nice forged pistons and a retune for more mid-range at the expense of outright power. A new exhaust that’s both lighter, louder and helps liberate more grunt doesn’t hurt either. And it’s a pearler. 143 horsepower of silky smooth grunt. It has shorter gearing compared to the Blade so makes the most of it too. Make no mistake, anything over five-grand and this little puppy hauls arse.

It’s also quicker to 130 than the Fireblade, apparently, and I don’t doubt that at all. First and second gears are dispatched in a heartbeat and third gear is nirvana on the right, smooth road. Warp speed Scotty. Bring me that horizon and whatever other cliches you want to throw about. The CB1000R lifts the front at a whim too. Ridiculous. Awesome.

The whole driveline is bloody brilliant. From the throttle feel and fuelling, to the clutch and box which seems to shift smoother than any of my old Blades did. It’s as good a thing – as a whole driveline package – as I’ve ridden in a long time. The Tokico stoppers do a fine job of pulling it up too. Plenty of power and feel without showing any signs of fading during my riding.

Like the Africa Twin I sampled recently, it comes with three pre-set ride modes – Rain, Normal and Sport, that adjust power, traction and engine braking settings. Plus a fourth ‘User’ mode allowing you to fine tune things to your liking. In the main I actually found the normal setting nearly perfect for everyday road use and commuting duties. Smooth, precise, easy.

The CB1000R is a proper weapon in traffic too. Not sure why they wouldn’t have given it a bit more steering lock though. Swapping lanes in stationary traffic becomes a three-point turn. The hot knife through butter came grinding to a halt where other bikes could get through. Bugger. I also found myself needing to fill up at 250-kilometes which was a bit too often for my liking, considering my daily return commute is almost that distance.

So… not a lot of range from that 16 litre tank then. It’s also worth noting that the rear mud guard… kinda… doesn’t. Plenty of muck turned up on my back and the whole rear end of the bike from my gravel road… Sure. It’s winter and in reality most people won’t take these off sealed roads often, but be aware. Trev took one up the snow a while ago, but then he is a bit different…

The LCD dash is nicely designed and mostly easy to read but can be tough to pick out the smaller numbers of the trip meter and fuel in the rain, as water droplets will sit on the screen.

For the first week I stuck with around town duties and the CB1000R is a fun thing, even if the suspension felt harsher than I’d have liked, particularly when I hit the odd bump and it sent it straight through to me with very little damping between me and the smack in the arse. I figured there’d be a trade-off come weekend hijinx time, so just went with it, because that engine is awesome.

I got frozen and wet to the arse a couple of times too. Who’s idea was it to test naked bikes in Melbourne during winter again Trev? Nothing a change of work clothes couldn’t sort out though. And that engine makes up for it.

Then the sun finally peeked through the clouds for a day. Birds and angels sang in harmony. I washed the bike and then rode up my gravel road at 24 km/h to try and keep it clean and finally got onto tarmac and headed straight for the coast to give it a proper workout. Right. Sport mode selected, throttle response sharpened, traction control backed off, full whack in all gears. Let’s boogie. I’d been looking forward to this for a week.

Warming up on smooth roads it was as nice as I’d hoped. Cruising down through Anglesea and Aireys the CB1000R tipped in more than willingly and felt light and nimble. Overall dimensions aren’t huge, though there’s ample room to move about on the bike, even if my right heel did snag the hefty twin outlet muffler a few times when positioning for right handers.

Speaking of the exhaust, Honda have done a nice job of liberating a decent exhaust note. That said, after hearing one with a pipe fitted, I’d at least throw a slip on if I was buying one. It sounded mad. I couldn’t NOT put one on it.

Back to the ride. Smooth roads were nice, but that suspension that felt unnecessarily harsh around town, didn’t get any better as the speeds rose on regular roads. It tied itself in knots over bumps and surface changes when really getting up it for the rent, the rear shock just wasn’t up to it. It would light up the rear without much warning or change lines when hitting small bumps or surface changes. Bigger hits weren’t very nice at all really.

Just to be clear these were ‘normal’ Victorian roads like the Great Ocean road and the Skenes creek to Forrest road. Roads I know well, but couldn’t really get comfortable on this ride. It’s such a shame as the rest of the bike deserves better. It would be amazing with a well-sorted aftermarket rear shock.

Yet there’s still one final twist in the tale. And that’s the price. At 17 grand the CB1000R bonkers cheap for what you get in terms of that sublime driveline. I mean Honda reckon we’re talking 25 per cent more torque than an MT10, apparently. I wonder if it’s the best driveline you can buy for the price? Probably.

It’s cheap enough that you could get both ends dialled in properly and a slip on added to the mix for under 20K on the road. And it would then be mint. Arguably you shouldn’t have to do that on a new bike. Not in 2019. Not with a Honda. But there you have it.

I’d love to ride one that had a sorted rear end. I’d love it if Honda brought out an SP version with top shelf bits on it. That would have to give the MT-10 SP a run for the money. It arguably looks better too… In my eyes anyway.

Honda celebrated 50-years of history of their in-line four-cylinder motorcycles at the 2019 Wheels & Waves, showcasing stunning custom Honda creations built around the new CB1000R nakedbike.

These custom bikes were all Honda projcets with partnered custom shops across Europe, as well as their dealer network, with vastly different takes on the new neo-retro offering that headlines this particular Honda line.

The Wheels & Waves festival itself brings together motorcycling, surfing, skateboarding and music into an inclusive event, which has been growing each year and is held at Biarritz on the coast of France, with seperate versions now also held in Japan and the United States. There’s even a little racing which includes the Punk’s Peak event.

Honda also chose this year’s event to showcase 50 years of Honda in-line fours. Here is a quick run-down on the history of Honda’s in-line four-cylinder nakedbikes, starting with their 1969 CB750.


Honda History – In-line four-cylinders

Honda claim a lot of firsts with their 1969 CB750, from the first ‘Superbike’ as we know them, to the first mass produced four production bike, keeping in mind this excludes the various race specific machines other manufacturers made that were not available to the public, or not mass produced.

The CB750 also included electric start and disc brakes, which was another first for a mass production bike. Developed for the American market, and with a price of $1495 the CB750 captured imaginations and set the tone for the next 50 years of Honda motorcycles.

1971 saw Honda introduce their first 500cc in-line four, following in the footsteps of the CB750, as the CB500 Four – which was followed the next year by the CB350F, which rumour has it was Mr. Honda’s personal favourite bike.

Development continued with a six-speed gearbox joining the CB400F in 1975, with the same eye-catching headers you’ll see on a modern Honda proudly displayed. 1976 saw the Hondamatic CB750A.

1979 would introduce a DOHC four-valve powerplant on the CB900F, and two years later the famous CB1100R would appear and go on to be raced by Wayne Gardner and Ron Haslam.

Fast forward to 1992 and you reach the CB1000R which featured water-cooling, 72kW and 18in wheels. The same year saw a classic recreation of the CB750, with the 1992 CB750.

1996 saw the first Honda Hornet, based around the CBR250 powerplant and only released in Japan, while 1998 added the CB1300 Super Four to the line-up, alongside the CB600F, a bike which was produced for over 15 years.

Reaching the 2000s, the CB900F would offer a 918 Fireblade powerplant in a nakedbike version, including fuel injection, while 2005 saw the CB1300S with fuel injection and ABS, aka the Super Bol D’Or.

Fast forward to 2018 and Honda launched the new ‘Neo Sports Cafe’ range, led by the CB1000R and joined by the CB300R and CB125R, with 2019 adding the mid-capacity CB650R to the family.

Honda CB1000R Customs at Wheels & Waves

With twelve separately created custom Honda CB1000R motorcycles on display at the 2019 running of Wheels & Waves there was some very different design inspirations taken in building these machines, with a Freddie Spencer-inspired version from Hakuba Motos, a CRF1000L Africa Twin CB and even a ‘Monkey 1000R’ to name just a few. Here’s a look at each:

With a futuristic streetfighter themed camo paintjob and eye catching detail, this CB1000R includes some very trick custom components with Gannet Design & Fuhrer Moto going all out for the build.

This includes Ultralight CeraCarbon racing front forks and custom sprockets, bespoke Rotobox carbon-fibre wheels, Synto Evo brake and clutch levers, fibreglass belly pan to match, titanium and carbon fibre Akrapovic end-can, and K&N air filter. The bodywork is handpainted by Walter Oberli, with the build coming out of Switzerland.

Africa Four CRF1000R by Brivemo Motors

Going in a very different direction is the Africa Twin inspired Africa Four from Brivemo Motors in Switzerland. Going for the full off-road/adventure angle, and with angular lines and futuristic features like the headlight, this is one bike that stands out in crowd.

Features include a CRF450R front end with single large front disc and anodised caliper, alongside a bespoke four-into-one exhaust with carbon-fibre can. A custom rear seat cowl joins the standard seat, with a new headlight and mudguard on the front, to suit the overall styling. Aluminium handlebars are also fitted along with engine ‘bars and serrated footpegs for grip, with mini-led indicators. Naturally the paint recalls the Africa Twin, alongside the wheel colour.

Monkey 1000R by Werther Honda (France)

Unlike the previous custom which went big, this Honda Monkey inspired CB1000R gets inspiration from something small with generous use of Glittering Blue on the frame, covers and fork legs, an undertray tail tidy, double-exit Arrow high exhaust and enduro tyres.

Additional details include the mini-LED indicators and Monkey mirrors and ‘bars, with the stock wheels drawing plenty of attention in silver.

With the inspiration of going ‘Full Black’, this creation by 3C Motos actually includes a three-shades of black paint scheme, giving the bike more depth and texture, with the forks, swingarm and frame all blacked out as well. The stock wheels are retained but repainted in gloss black.

Built in France by National Motos, this CB1000R proves that you don’t need to go to extremes for an amazing end result. Adding eye catching spoked wheels, including a single-sided rear, the 2006 24 Hours Le Mans winning paint scheme has been added, along with slicks, an Arrow exhaust and classic Honda logos.

Built by VC Moto in Spain this dirt endurance styled CB1000R bears the same name and features 48 in Japanese on the rear cowl to honour the foundation of the Honda Motor Company in 1948. Creating this drastic custom look is bespoke fairings with vintage inspiration, alongside the bespoke rear cowl.

Racing handlebars are engraved with the Soichiro Honda quote ‘Improves the breed’, with ‘bar end mirrors for good measure, not to mention a split-level muffler setup. Pod filters are fitted with 3D printed mounts, while chunky tyres add to the overall image.

Monkey Kong by Mallorca Motos

Built by Mallorca Motos in Spain, this Monkey inspired CB1000R carries the same paint scheme and borrows Monkey items, including the mirrors, indicators and front mudguard. Further replicating the Monkey look is the engine cover featuring a Monkey style chrome-plate ring, with the headlight similarly dressed up.

A custom seat offers the quilted style, but retains the CB1000R sportier look, with high-mount handlebars in chrome joining a chromed rear mudguard. The forks are also gold, with a yellow shock spring added to further match the Monkey. An Africa Twin exhaust has also been slapped on to replicate the tall and large Monkey exhaust.

Alfredo by Hakuba Motos

With Freddie Spencer the inspiration for this eye catching CB1000R, the bodywork has been hand painted in red, white and blue with a Freddie Spencer logo added to the tank. The Hakuba logo is laser-engraved onto the clutch, while forks are black enamelled.

Front and side number boards also offer a racier theme, with a bespoke exhaust setup completed with an SC-Project racing muffler. The ‘pegs and controls have likewise been relocated to carry the racer feel.

Honda Limited Edition by Honda Motor Europe

This version of the bike is actually a Honda genuine Special Edition with 350 to be available in France, Spain, Germany and Italy and features the Honda tricolour racing paint scheme. Creating the limited edition package is the split-level SC-Project muffler, while carbon-fibre parts by the same brand are also features.

Tribute by Honda Italia

This CB1000R pays tribute to 50 years of the CB750 with the original 1969 CB750 K0 paint replicated, alongside tubeless Jonish spoked wheels and split-level conical SC-Project mufflers. There’s also a new 3D printed Honda logo, with Rizoma indicators, mirrors and handlebar weights. The seat is Alcantara velvet for eye catching texture, with a Lightech plate holder.

Dani Pedrosa replica by Moto Macchion

The final custom of the 12 is this #26 Dani Pedrosa RC213V inspired creation from Moto Macchion, with a full titanium SC-Project GP four-into-two exhaust, which exits under the tail and beside the rear wheel. There’s also full Ohlins suspension further promoting that racer edge.

A homologated swingarm mounted plate holder is also featured, alongside Rizoma goodies in the fork of the aluminium handlebars, front brake guard and mirrors. The seat is by Race Seats and the overall paint scheme is from Dani Pedrosa’s RC213V.

This impressive custom motorcycle is the creation of Stefan Fuhrer and the crew at Fuhrer Moto and designer Ulfert Janssen of Gannet Design, and won Honda Switzerland’s custom CB1000R competition, as well as being presented at the 2019 Swiss Moto Show in Zurich this February.

The aim was to produce a completely new appearance by changing the proportions and handlebar position, while leaving the basic components untouched to show the extensive possibilities for the CB1000R’s customisation. The contemporary camouflage graphics on the tank and the paneling was gradually built up in seven layers.

Through the special collaboration with 422 Corse, the bike has also been fitted with carbon-fibre rims from Rotobox, as well as a carbon fork from CeraCarbon. Altered proportions, along with the modern graphics and ultra high-tech carbon parts, give this Honda R-adical an incomparably aggressive fast forward attitude.

The Plan

The project started with initial loose sketches and design studies by Ulfert, with the overall brief being to maintain basic components but deliver an all new look, as far as proportions and ergonomics, with the design of the belly fairing helping to put the bike visually tight on the road.

“Many people underestimate the importance of balance and proportion in a custom build. Just by changing the stance, angles and position slightly, you get an entire new perception and attitude of a bike.”

Stefan started the transformation by adapting and custom milling the triple clamp to make it lighter and more racy. Then adapted the belly fiberglass fairing according to the design, giving the bike a low and sexy stance.

“The front is incredibly beautiful and hot. Through CNC milling, we have created a new fixation design for the front light and the mini windshield. With the new three-piece CNC mechanism, we can now change the height of the headlight and adjust the windscreen to any angle. The front headlight has been moved forward by 60mm and
slightly lowered . This new special fixation together with the Multiclip, the triple clamp, and the carbon fork give this bike a very technical and cool visual impression like in a Transformer movie.”

Dario Dauru at 422 Corse, is a special partner in the build, and specialises in carbon lightweight performance parts, such as Ceracarbon forks and Rotobox wheels. The bike is now equipped with the ultra light CeraCarbon-Racing front-fork and custom made sprockets. The front-fork is designed and constructed in Carbon-fiber with Dyneema and a unique patented Ceramic technology. It has the strength and stiffness of the standard steel fork but the lightness of Carbon, and the Ceramics provides the wear-resistance.

One typical 43mm steel front fork inner tube has a weight of almost one kilo, while a CeraCarbon 43mm front fork tube has a weight of 237 grams. It is 75 per cent lighter than the conventional steel front fork inner tubes, and reduces the unsprung weight by 1.5kg on a complete front fork.

CeraCarbon offered us amazing support and went all the way in, by specially fabricating a new sprocket prototype for our Honda R-adical project. This sprocket is made of aluminum and is ceramic coated. This ensures a long life and the carbon inlets provide additional stability and lightness.

The Rotobox Carbon Fibre wheels are up to 50 per cent lighter than original equipment rims and are the world’s only one-piece carbon monocoque wheels. As this new Honda CB1000R is from 2018, there were no carbon rims yet on the market for this model.

With the special help by Dario at 422 Corse, Rotobox went the extra mile and specifically developed these new rims within one month to fit the Honda CB 1000R-adical to premiere at the 2019 Swiss Moto show. The dimensions of the rims are 17 x 3.50in front and 17 x 6.00in rear and got fitted with Dunlop Moto 2 Rain Tires which also enhances the unique appearance of the bike.

The clip-on’s were sponsored by ABM Fahrzeugtechnik who equipped the bike with their Multi Clip and some fine Synto Evo brake/clutch levers in grey/black to fit the color scheme of the bike. In addition, the motorcycle was equipped with K+N air filters for better breathing and an exhaust upgrade with the titanium/carbon fiber muffler by Akrapovic which provides a rich sound.

The fine paint work is a masterpiece by painter Walter Oberli, who gradually built up the seven layers of paint to achieve the final camouflage pattern.

“I found this work on the CB1000R extremely exciting and inspiring. When I think back it is almost like a poem, or a story. I spent evenings and nights screwing together parts to take them apart again because it was somehow not consistent yet. It is a gradual building process to get the right coherence of the bike. At the end you can clearly identify the original Honda CB1000R donor bike, but yet the impression of our custom build is totally new.”

This bike will be at The Reunion in Monza and Glemseck 101 among others.
