2023 Honda Rebel 1100T DCT
The 2023 Honda “bagger” Rebel 1100T DCT ($11,299) in Bordeaux Red Metallic

The 2023 Honda lineup is in, including 11 returning models from five categories and the new “bagger” Rebel 1100 trim level.

In 2023, we’ll see the return of sportbikes like the CBR1000RR, the touring-focused NC750X, the classic Shadow Aero and Shadow Phantom, miniMOTOs like the Super Cub and Monkey, and more.

The highlight of Honda’s 2023 lineup is the “bagger” Rebel, the 2023 Rebel 1100T DCT. With a dual-clutch transmission, wind protection, and extra cargo space offered in the new hard-shell saddlebags, this model puts a different spin on Honda’s new-school cruiser platform.

And for those who love the Rebel just as it is, the Rebel 1100 will still be available in its non-bagger form, in both manual and dual-clutch transmission versions.

Honda introduced the Rebel 1100 two years ago, a bigger-displacement cruiser modeled after the successful Rebel 300 and 500. It’s a capable and comfortable all-around cruiser featuring a liquid-cooled, 1083cc, parallel-Twin engine available with either a manual transmission or DCT (dual-clutch transmission).

The new “T” trim marks the beginning of the “bagger” Rebel, only available with DCT. The Rebel 1100T DCT comes standard with a windscreen and hard-shell saddlebags with a combined 35 liters of space, making it even more practical for longer rides.

2024 Triumph Street Triple 765 Range | First Look Review

2024 Triumph Street Triple 765 range
L-R: 2024 Triumph Street Triple 765 Moto2 Edition, Street Triple 765 RS, and Street Triple R

Triumph Motorcycles has announced the new 2024 Triumph Street Triple 765 range, featuring a significantly updated Street Triple R, a new Street Triple RS, and an exclusive limited-run Street Triple 765 Moto2 Edition, which Triumph says is “the closest you can get to a Moto2 race bike for the road.” Only 765 of the Moto2 Edition bikes will be made.

At the Oct. 18 virtual press conference unveiling the new bikes, Triumph’s head of brand management, Miles Perkins, said the Street Triple, which was originally developed from the company’s race-winning Daytona 675, has had distinctive character ever since its introduction in 2007.

2024 Triumph Street Triple 765 RS
2024 Triumph Street Triple 765 RS

“From the start, the bike played a part in redefining what a middleweight sports bike should be about,” Perkins said. “Over the years, there have been a number of significant updates from Triumph, all of which have been about making the bike better, faster, more powerful, and lighter. And I think I wouldn’t be too demonstrative to say there are not many bikes in the world of motorcycling that have gotten better, lighter, more powerful – particularly names as well-regarded as the Street Triple.”

All three models in the new 2024 Street Triple 765 range will still feature a liquid-cooled 765cc inline-Triple, which was bumped up from 675cc with the 2017 Street Triple lineup, but Triumph says engine upgrades derived directly from the Moto2 race engine program have resulted in a significant step up in performance on the range.

Related Story: 2017 Triumph Street Triple RS | First Ride Review

Triumph’s most powerful Street Triple range to date, the 2024 Street Triple R engine makes a claimed 118 hp (up from 116 hp) and 59 lb-ft of torque at 9,500 rpm (up from 57 lb-ft at 9,400 rpm). The Street Triple RS and Moto2 take it up another notch, making 128 hp.

Other lessons from the Moto2 race engine program that have been applied to the 2024 Street Triple range include a compression ratio that has been raised from 12.65:1 to 13.25:1 – an increase of 4.7%. Additionally, new pistons, con-rods and gudgeon pins are matched to new, optimized combustion chambers for an increased cylinder pressure limit and ultimately, more power, and the new valves and camshafts are said to give increased valve lift for improved intake, combustion, and exhaust efficiency. The gearbox has also been revised to include shorter gear ratios for faster acceleration.

2024 Triumph Street Triple 765 Range: ‘The Perfect Performance Naked Bike Set-up’

2024 Triumph Street Triple 765 RS

In the media statement announcing the new Street Triple range, Triumph said that new technology and high-specification components, combined with an updated chassis, make the range “the best handling ever and the perfect performance naked bike set-up.”

At the press conference, Triumph’s global product marketing manager, James Wood, said the specifications of the chassis and suspension have “always been about agility, precision, and having a bike that you really connect with intuitively … and give the best possible ride for each of these three models, with the R being more road focused, the RS adding even more advanced performance and track-focused capability, and the Moto2 Edition, which has the most track-focused capability ever for a Street Triple.”

2024 Triumph Street Triple 765

The 2024 Street Triple 765 R and RS both benefit from the new generation’s more focused and commanding riding position, the result of a new handlebar that is 0.47 inch wider. The race-inspired Moto2 Edition goes one step further with clip-on handlebars that are 3.15 inches lower and 1.97 inches farther forward than the R and RS. This change, combined with the bike’s unique high-specification Öhlins fork, is said to deliver even more race bike poise and front end feel. Both the RS and the Moto2 Edition also feature revised geometry with a steeper rake and a raised back end for nimble, faster turning.

2024 Triumph Street Triple 765 Moto2
2024 Triumph Street Triple 765 Moto2 in Triumph Racing Yellow with an Aluminum Silver rear subframe

Seat height is 32.52 inches on the Street Triple R, 32.91 inches on the Street Triple RS, and 33.03 inches for the Moto2 Edition, and a new accessory low seat option with 3D net technology for enhanced comfort can be fitted to further reduce the height by 1.1 inches on all models. For the Street Triple RS and Moto2 Edition, Triumph dealers can additionally lower the seat by 0.39 inch if required through the implementation of a dedicated rear suspension linkage adaption, which when delivered in combination with the accessory low seat provides a very accessible height of 31.42 inches on the RS and 31.54 inches on the Moto2 Edition.

Check out more of Rider‘s Triumph coverage here

Braking is linked on the new Street Triples, with the Street Triple R featuring Brembo M4.32 4-piston radial monoblock calipers at the front and a Brembo single piston sliding caliper at the rear. The Street Triple 765 RS and Moto2 Edition are fitted with Brembo Stylema 4-piston radial monobloc front calipers with twin 310mm floating discs. A matching Brembo MCS span and ratio adjustable lever reportedly gives even more control and finesse, and a Brembo single piston sliding caliper keeps things in check at the rear.

2024 Triumph Street Triple 765 RS

As far as suspension, components from Showa and Öhlins are fully adjustable for preload, compression, and rebound.

The Street Triple 765 R comes fitted with a Showa 41mm inverted, separate-function Big Piston fork and a Showa piggyback reservoir rear monoshock. The Street Triple RS is equipped with a Showa 41mm inverted Big Piston fork and an Öhlins piggyback reservoir rear shock, and the Moto2 Edition reflects its track-ready capability with a 43mm inverted Öhlins front fork and an Öhlins piggyback reservoir rear shock. Front wheel travel on all models is 4.53 inches, with 5.17-in rear wheel travel on the RS and Moto2 Edition, and 5.26 inches on the Street Triple R.

2024 Triumph Street Triple 765

The Street Triple R is shod with Continental ContiRoad tires, and the RS and Moto2 Edition get Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa SP V3 tires.

Triumph said the Street Triple’s gullwing swingarm has been developed for “excellent torsional stiffness with lateral flexibility, maximizing stability at higher speeds for enhanced rider confidence while the pivot position provides natural resistance to compressing the rear shock absorber under hard acceleration.”

2024 Triumph Street Triple 765 R
2024 Triumph Street Triple 765 R

The company said this translates into tight corner exits and precise, predictable chassis behavior, and results in class-defining performance when combined with the bike’s lightweight chassis and incredible power-to-weight ratio.

The Street Triple R has a wet weight of 417 lb, with the RS and Moto2 Edition coming in at 414 lb. Wood said the power-to-weight ratio has “always been key.”

“The attributes that make this such a great, precise bike for the track also make it an easy and intuitive bike to ride on the road, for any rider and any skill level.”

The new Street Triple 765 range features the latest generation of optimized cornering ABS on all three new models. The system features a new ABS modulator with an integrated IMU for more refined ABS control. Tailored settings integrated into each of the riding modes alter the level of ABS intervention, while a track-focused tune is also present for riders seeking minimal ABS intervention.

Optimized cornering traction control supported by an IMU that continuously calculates the lean angle to ensure the optimum slip rate and torque control is also now standard on all three Street Triple 765 models. Four independently adjustable levels of intervention can be selected to suit riding styles and road conditions, including a track-focused tune with minimal intervention as well as the ability to turn it off altogether for experienced riders in high-grip racetrack situations.

2024 Triumph Street Triple 765

The new Street Triple 765 R features four ride modes – Road, Rain, Sport and Rider-configurable – while the RS and Moto2 Edition have an additional Track mode designed to be as unintrusive as possible while still providing the reassurance that the electronic systems are there to help in unexpected situations.

The Road, Sport, and Track modes have new, more dynamic throttle maps that Triumph says provide an even more responsive feel. Rain mode restricts the engine power to 98.6 hp while increasing the level of ABS and traction control intervention for better feel and control in wet conditions.

The new Street Triple 756 RS and Moto2 Edition feature 5-inch full-color TFT instrumentation with ergonomically optimized switch cubes and a five-way joystick. The MyTriumph connectivity system is pre-enabled and provides turn-by-turn navigation, phone control, and music operation via the accessory-fit Bluetooth module and free My Triumph app. A lap timer is included on the RS and Moto2 Edition for track use.

2024 Triumph Street Triple 765 RS

The 2024 Street Triple 765 range also features the latest generation of Triumph Shift Assist. Upshifts can be made without closing the throttle, and downshifts can be made without the use of the clutch or the need to blip the throttle to match the gear and engine speeds. A slip/assist clutch and front wheel lift control are also standard on all three models.

Additionally, there’s a new color-coded belly pan for the RS, which is available as an accessory option for the R.

The rear end of the new Street Triple has a sporty, upswept design lending to a focused, nose-down attitude. The RS features a color-coded seat cowl with an interchangeable passenger seat. The new silencer shape adds to the Street Triple’s aggressive stance.

2023 Ducati Streetfighter V4, V4 S, V4 SP2 | First Look Review

2023 Ducati Streetfighter V4 SP2
2023 Ducati Streetfighter V4 SP2 in Winter Test

Adding another notch to the company’s proverbial belt of 2023 bikes, Ducati announced the continued evolution of its “Fight Formula” with the 2023 Ducati Streetfighter V4 and V4 S models, as well as an exclusive Streetfighter V4 SP2.

Unveiled in 2019 for the 2020 model year, the Streetfighter V4, with aggressive and minimalist aesthetic and characterized by a front inspired by the Joker from the comic series, was hailed as setting new performance benchmarks in the supersport naked segment.

2023 Ducati Streetfighter V4 SP2

Ducati says the 2023 Streetfighter V4 models push the concepts of the “Fight Formula” even further, the key elements of which are the Panigale V4 stripped of its fairing, high and wide handlebars, a 392-lb dry weight, a 1,103cc Desmosedici Stradale making a claimed 208 hp at 13,000 rpm (with revised calibration to match the larger diameter of the silencer outlet), biplane wings, and the latest generation electronic package.

But the removal of the bodywork isn’t the only area where the new Streetfighter V4 aligns with the 2023 Panigale V4.

2023 Ducati Streetfighter V4 Electronics

The new Streetfighter implements the Power Modes logic already developed in the Ducati Panigale V4 and V4 S with calibrations dedicated to the Desmosedici Stradale engine in the Streetfighter configuration. In addition to the previous High and Medium power modes, which have been revised for 2023, two new power modes have been developed: Full and Low.

For the High and Medium power modes, a new throttle-by-wire map management system has been developed with a dedicated calibration for each of the six gears for optimal acceleration. The new Full power mode allows the engine to have its full potential torque without electronic intervention, except in 1st gear, and the Low Power Mode has been designed for riding on low-grip surfaces, limiting the maximum power of the bike to 165 hp and offering a softer and more manageable throttle response.

2023 Ducati Streetfighter V4 S
2023 Ducati Streetfighter V4 S

The 2023 Streetfighter V4 also sees the introduction of the new “Wet” ride mode to make riding even safer on low-grip surfaces. The standard equipment is upgraded by a lithium-ion battery for the S and the SP2 version (which is 3.7 lb lighter than the previous one and already equipped on the Streetfighter V4 SP).

The dashboard of the 2023 Streetfighter V4 also follows the evolution followed by the Panigale V4. The graphics are revised in all views, which Ducati says makes the information more straightforward and allows the rider to make calibration adjustments easier.

As on the Panigale V4, the gear indicator is displayed via an external green LED signal. The dashboard offers the “Track Evo” display mode, which replicates the layout used on the MotoGP Desmosedici and provides an immediate view of the most important information and the intervention of the electronic controls.

The 2023 Streetfighter V4 also features the new Engine Brake Control (EBC) EVO 2 software, which is said to improves stability, precision, and directionality in the braking and corner entry phases. This software features a different gear-by-gear calibration on each of the three selectable levels. The new strategy was developed to optimize the amount of the engine brake based on the load on the rear end. In the first braking phase, when there is little load on the rear tire, the EBC EVO 2 provides less engine brake, increasing braking as the rider approaches the center of the corner. This upgrade provides additional control using the engine braking in all riding conditions and reduces locking up of the rear wheel in the most demanding braking sections.

The 2023 Streetfighter V4 also implements a new strategy for the Ducati Quick Shift (DQS) that improves the fluidity of shifting at every throttle opening, having dedicated strategies with the two situations for when the throttle is partially or fully open.

In partial throttle shifting, the strategy acts both through an injection cut and a reduction of ignition advance, making shifting smoother on roads. In full throttle shifting, typical of track use, the DQS strategy is refined with an evolution of the torque return phase that reportedly gives more stability to the bike and more consistency, therefore reducing lap times.

Finally, the cooling fan control strategy sees an update that now offers better operating temperature management and greater thermal comfort for the rider at typical road use speeds.

2023 Ducati Streetfighter V4 Chassis and Ergonomics

On the new Streetfighter V4, the chassis also follows the evolution of the Panigale V4 family to offer enthusiasts stability improvements, front-end feeling, and riding safety. The chassis includes a Front Frame and a single-sided swingarm, both in aluminum, with an NIX30 inverted 43mm fork and mechanically adjustable TTX36 shock absorber.

2023 Ducati Streetfighter V4

The Streetfighter V4 S semi-active Öhlins suspension also features SmartEC 2.0 interface for versatility and improved effectiveness and set-up time. In addition, the V4 S version features Marchesini forged aluminum wheels that reduce unsprung weight versus the standard V4 model.

As on the Panigale V4, the swingarm pivot of the 2023 Streetfighter V4 is positioned 0.16 inch (4mm) higher, increasing the anti-squat action for greater stability, precision, and the ability to maintain the trajectory in all acceleration situations.

The weight distribution also moves toward the front, loading it more and thus increasing accuracy and speed in corner entry. Finally, the ergonomics benefit from the new layout of the fuel tank, which is the same shape of the 2022 Panigale V4 and offers greater support to the rider during braking and cornering. The wet weight of the 2022 Streetfighter V4 S stands at 435.4 lb (197.5 kg).

The new “Front Frame” and the Desmosedici Stradale are left uncovered as much as possible, with minimal bodywork and streamlined lines for what Ducati says is a “clean, essential combination.”

2023 Ducati Streetfighter V4 SP2

To push the performance of the 2023 Streetfighter V4 even further, Ducati is also presenting its top-of-the-range Streetfighter V4 SP2 model in a numbered version that’s ready to hit the track.

2023 Ducati Streetfighter V4 SP2
2023 Ducati Streetfighter V4 SP2 in Winter Test

On the Streetfighter V4 SP2, the Desmosedici Stradale is equipped with the STM-EVO SBK dry clutch, which Ducati says provides an improved slipper function, even in the most aggressive situations, and more fluidity in all “off-throttle” phases, essential to be effective on the track when riding at the limit.

2023 Ducati Streetfighter V4 SP2

The Öhlins suspension has seen an update with springs and hydraulics identical to those of the Panigale V4. The bike features a carbon front fender and adjustable, machined aluminum foot-pegs that increase the lean angle and allow the rider to find the optimal position while riding, as well as a carbon clutch cover and block-off covers for removing the license plate holder and mirrors for strictly closed-course circuit riding.

2023 Ducati Streetfighter V4 SP2

The Streetfighter V4 SP2 is equipped with five-split-spoke carbon rims, 3.1 lb (1.4 kg) lighter than the forged aluminum ones mounted on the Streetfighter V4 S, which contributes to a reduction in the moment of inertia by 26% at the front and 46% at the rear, impacting the feel of the bike when changing direction. The Brembo Stylema R front brake calipers give high braking power and consistent performance even in the case of extended use on the track.

2023 Ducati Streetfighter V4 SP2

The Streetfighter V4 SP2 will also be available in spring 2023 in the Winter Test livery, designed by the Centro Stile Ducati taking inspiration from the Ducati Corse bikes used during the preseason tests of the MotoGP and WorldSBK Championships. The matte black of the bodywork, combined with the matte carbon finish of the rims and wings, contrasts with the bright red accents and exposed brushed aluminum tank and side covers of the radiators. The progressive number of the bike is lasered on the handlebar. The 2023 Streetfighter V4 SP2 starts at $37,995.

2023 KTM RC 8C | First Look Review

2023 KTM RC 8C

Following the success of the competition-only KTM RC 8C, which was released just two years ago, KTM has announced that it has “reset the dials” for 2023, overhauling the new model for what is said to be an even sharper ‘Ready to Race’ profile.

2023 KTM RC 8C

The 2023 KTM RC 8C boasts an evolved 889cc LC8c DOHC parallel-Twin molded specifically for the circuit, upgraded electronic features, more weight-saving solutions, and several high-end components aimed toward ensuring the bike’s competitiveness.

In a press statement announcing the new model, KTM cited “performance, durability and all-out capability” as the central priorities for the KTM R&D crew for the 2023 KTM RC 8C. The reported increases to maximum power and torque and the 12,000rpm rev ceiling were achieved by mods like the installation of new, lighter titanium valves and conrods, as well as two piston rings (to refine the oscillating masses), higher compression ratios, a bigger throttle body, and bolstered fuel pump/pressure.

2023 KTM RC 8C

KTM says that increasing the clutch preload, removing the top balancer, and adjusting the crankcase balancer shaft have delivered durability gains, and an additional Pankl oil cooler helps with thermal stability.

The 2023 KTM RC 8C’s dry weight has been optimized to 313 lb (142 kg) with the agility of a chrome-moly steel frame. Additional measures such as the new titanium Akrapovic exhaust system have helped the slimming, and the latest configurations of WP Pro Components suspension has enhanced the ultra-light feel. The WP Apex Pro fork and shock are now softer, contributing to increased comfort, contact, and confidence.

2023 KTM RC 8C

KTM said that regardless of whether a rider is the next Brad Binder seeking training mileage or the next Red Bull MotoGP rookie on the path to Grand Prix stardom, the refined electronics on the 2023 KTM RC 8C can match any setting of traction control, mapping, and engine braking with the rider’s level of ability (or ambition). The race bike can be primed in a number of ways, including the adjustable steering head, the offset of the CNC-machine triple clamps, the throttle response, and degree of bite from the Brembo Stylema calipers and RCS19 Corsa Corta master cylinder.

2023 KTM RC 8C

The bike also features a revamped dashboard with GPS data-logger that displays lap-record attempts, the Quickshifter+, and the use of winglets and updates to aerodynamics derived from the KTM RC16.

2023 KTM RC 8C

Only 200 editions of the 2023 KTM RC 8C will be made. Each model will come in KTM’s distinctive orange frame with razor black graphics and a special serial number stamped onto the triple clamp. Pricing starts at $39,995, and orders can be made only through the dedicated page on the KTM website.

2023 KTM RC 8C

To launch the 2023 KTM RC 8C, the company will host an “ultra-special track day” for 30 customers at the Circuit Ricardo Tormo in Valencia, Spain, on April 26, 2023. Select first-come, first-served places can be secured, with former Grand Prix riders offering track tuition and a full KTM and WP Suspension technical crew on hand to dial-in the configuration of the new bike to the 14-corner Grand Prix venue. Once in Spain, accommodation, food, and bike transportation logistics from Austria to Spain and then to local dealers is all taken care of. KTM calls it “the full factory racer experience!” For more details click HERE.

2023 Ducati Panigale V4 R | First Look Review

Ducati Panigale V4 R

Ducati has announced the 2023 Panigale V4 R, a street-legal superbike that now surpasses earlier models as Ducati’s closest production model to a competition motorcycle. With technical solutions derived from MotoGP and WorldSBK Championship bikes, Ducati claims a max 240.5 hp for the updated Panigale V4 R. The 2023 V4 R also features several upgrades over the previous year model.

Read all of Rider‘s Ducati reviews here.

The maximum horsepower of 240.5 sounds impressive, but it’s a little more complicated than that. A few things have to fall into alignment for that max to be reached. The 2023 Panigale V4 features the 998cc Desmosedici Stradale R engine, seen in previous models.

Ducati claims the Desmosedici Stradale R can reach 16,500 rpm in 6th gear and deliver 207 hp at 13,500 rpm with 82 lb-ft of torque. Add on the racing exhaust, and the Stradale R bumps up to 237 hp, which is 3 hp higher than its predecessor but still 3.5 hp short of the claimed max. To give the Stradale R another boost, Ducati collaborated with Shell to produce a special performance oil that claims a 10% reduction in mechanical friction, bumping the ponies up to 240.5.

Ducati Panigale V4 R

The special Shell oil only works because the bike uses a dry clutch. The oil contains racing-type additives that can cause problems with a wet clutch. The clutch on the 2023 Panigale V4 R is new, derived from the version used in the WorldSBK. The diameter and axial length have been reduced by 0.9 in and the weight by 1.8 lb. To help with lubrication, the V4 R features gun-drilled titanium connecting rods, which facilitate oil passage.

Ducati Panigale V4 R

Also new to the 2023 model is the lengthened gear ratios. The new ratios are the same as those used by WorldSBK Panigale race bikes and were first seen in production models on the 2022 Panigale V4 S. The ratios are lengthened in 1st (+11.6%), 2nd (+5.6%), and 6th (+1.8%) gears. Ducati says the longer gears offer improved engine management when braking and better acceleration coming out of corners. They also allow the quickshifter to work more effectively.

Ducati Panigale V4 R

The V4 R also allows riders to choose from four engine configurations: full, high, medium, and low. Full power mode is exactly what it sounds like: It allows the engine to run its full potential without electronic filters (except for first gear). In medium and high power modes, a Ride by Wire map has calibration for all six gears so riders achieve ideal drive. The low power mode is intended to be used for riding on road and for low-grip surfaces. Low power mode limits the max power to 160 hp and features a more manageable throttle response.

Ducati Panigale V4 R
Ducati Panigale V4 R

The ride mode is visible on the Track Evo display, first seen on the 2022 Panigale V4. The display features a horizontal tachometer along the top of the dashboard. The gear engaged is in the center of the screen. The display also features lights to indicate when an electronic control is working on a particular parameter, such as the Engine Brake Control and the Dual Quick Shift, making it easier for the rider to figure out what controls are helping and what controls have been working against the rider in any given scenario.

Ducati Panigale V4 R

The suspension system, updated in the 2022 Panigale V4 and V4 S, is fully adjustable, with an Öhlins NPX25/30 fork with 4.9 inches of travel (0.2 inches more than the 2022 Panigale V4 R) and an Öhlins TTX36 shock. Other updates include a more aggressive profile of the intake cams to improve breathing at high revs and an aluminum tank capacity increase to 4.5 gallons.

Ducati Panigale V4 R
Ducati Panigale V4 R

Ducati offers a number of accessories for the Panigale V4, such as the Akrapovič titanium complete exhaust system, lighter magnesium rims, adjustable aluminum footpegs, and more.

The 2023 Ducati Panigale V4 R in MotoGP-derived racing livery will retail for $44,995 and is expected to arrive in dealerships in the spring of 2023. Visit Ducati’s website for more information.

2023 BMW M 1000 RR and M 1000 R | First Look Review

2023 BMW M 1000 R
All-new BMW M 1000 R

At the end of 2018, BMW Motorrad introduced the M Motorsport automobile range strategy to its motorcycle brand, including offering M special equipment and M Performance Parts on various BMW models. The first bike in the M range was the BMW M 1000 RR, which made its debut in September 2020 and has been the base bike for the BMW Motorrad World Superbike Team since 2021, as well as being used by many race teams around the world.

Related Story: BMW Motorrad BMW M 1000 RR 50 Years M

On Tuesday, BMW Motorrad USA announced the updated 2023 BMW M 1000 RR, as well as the second model in the two-wheel M Motorsport lineup and the first M Roadster: the 2023 BMW M 1000 R – or M R for short. Both motorcycles have an expected U.S. market arrival date of January 2023.

2023 BMW M 1000 RR

2023 BMW M 1000 RR
2023 BMW M 1000 RR in Light White

In a media statement from BMW Motorrad USA, the company said the M 1000 RR was “developed to set a new milestone in the field of superbikes homologated for racing.

“We have achieved an engineering masterpiece in the aerodynamic development of the M RR due to our unwavering ambition, total passion, and technical finesse,” said Christian Gonschor, Project Management M 1000 RR. “Thanks to countless hours in the wind tunnel as well as in road tests, we were able to considerably increase the top speed with unchanged engine output and at the same time significantly increase the downforce, also when banking in corners. Our development work will be rewarded with racing success.”

2023 BMW M 1000 RR

The 2023 BMW M RR and the M RR M Competition bikes still have a liquid-cooled 999cc inline-Four engine making a claimed 205 hp at 13,000 rpm and 83 lb-ft of torque at 11,000 rpm, as well as two-ring forged pistons and fully CNC-machined intake ports and BMW ShiftCam technology to vary valve timing and lift.

The M RR is an evolution of the BMW S 1000 RR and features longer Pankl titanium connecting rods that are 3 oz. lighter for reduced friction and weight compared to the S RR, as well as shorter intake funnels for improved flow at high engine speeds.

Related Story: 2023 BMW S 1000 RR | First Look Review

The M RR still features four ride modes – Rain, Road, Dynamic, and Race – as well as three “Pro” race modes, two adjustable throttle characteristics, a slip/assist clutch, and Shift Assistant Pro for fast upshifts and downshifts without using the clutch. The bike also features the latest generation of Dynamic Traction Control DTC and DTC wheelie function with 6-axis sensor box, Launch Control, Hill Start Control Pro, and M Brakes and ABS Pro with Race ABS for maximum braking performance on the track.

As far as upgrades to the 2023 BMW M 1000 RR, BMW is touting “increased downforce and improved top speed in one package” resulting from advancements in the area of aerodynamics.

2023 BMW M 1000 RR

A newly designed fairing made of visible carbon fiber with a higher windscreen provides an increase in top speed in conjunction with optimized airflow around the rider. The new fairing also adds integrated protection of the M engine covers.

The M Winglets on the front fairing were also completely revised to produce significantly more aerodynamic downforce than before – both when riding upright and when leaning in corners. The tendency to wheelie is reduced and thus the need for traction control to kick in is reduced, and the rider can achieve more extreme lean angles or higher cornering speeds at the same lean angle.

2023 BMW M 1000 RR

Another central point in optimizing the entire aerodynamics package was around the area of the front wheel. For the first time in the history of BMW Motorrad, brake cooling air ducts made of carbon fiber are integrated into the new front fenders, which have been optimized for improved airflow around the fork legs and brake calipers to reduce the temperature of the M brakes by up to 50 degrees Fahrenheit in track operation.

2023 BMW M 1000 RR

The M Aero Wheel Covers, included in the M 1000 RR M Competition package, also made of visible carbon fiber, lower drag further – especially at speeds above 155 mph.

2023 BMW M 1000 RR

Other new features of the 2023 BMW M 1000 RR include the following:

  • M Carbon wheels with new finish and M Design graphics.
  • Forged wheels available as an alternative to the carbon fiber wheels.
  • Newly designed rear section.
  • Ergonomic M Endurance seat.
  • Short license plate bracket.
  • Modified wiring harness with LWS connector for easier removal of license plate bracket and lights.

The 2023 BMW M 1000 RR comes in Light White non-metallic starting at $32,995. The M RR M Competition model comes in Blackstorm Metallic.

BMW Motorrad said the all-new BMW M 1000 R delivers a “dynamic riding experience in the roadster segment previously reserved for superbikes.”

“The M R is the second M model from BMW Motorrad,” said Ralf Mölleken, Project Manager 4-cylinder models. “Based on the current S 1000 R and S 1000 RR, the product substance of the M 1000 R – M R for short – has been tuned to meet the specific requirements of a supersport roadster. The riding dynamics speak for themselves both on the country road and on the track.”

Mölleken called the engine of the M R “a technical balancing act.”

“For super-sporty country road use, a pleasant power characteristic with plenty of torque in the low and medium rev range is available,” he said, “while high peak power is provided for riding on the track.”

The new M R uses the same water-cooled 999cc inline-Four engine developed from the M RR, and it delivers a claimed 205 hp at 13,500 rpm (40 hp more than in the S 1000 R, and a slightly higher rpm than the M RR) and 83 lb-ft of torque at 11,000 rpm, as well as BMW ShiftCam technology. Compared to the S 1000 R, the maximum engine speed has been increased from 12,000 rpm to 14,600 rpm.

From 10,000 rpm, the engine of the new M R provides much more peak power and torque until the redline. Increased rear wheel traction in all gears is also provided by a shorter secondary gear ratio through the use of a sprocket with 47 teeth vs. 45 in the S 1000 R. In addition, the gear ratios of the 4th, 5th, and 6th gear have been changed.

BMW says the new M R engine is “significantly more powerful than the 4-cylinder of the S 1000 R across the entire rev range.” With an acceleration speed of 7.5 seconds to 124 mph, the M R is 0.5 second faster than the S 1000 R. The picture is even more dramatic with regard to the pull-through values, measured in 6th gear. While the S 1000 R takes 3.3 seconds from 37 mph to 62 mph, the M R only needs 2.9 seconds. The intermediate sprint from 62 mph to 93 mph takes 2.5 seconds (3.3 seconds for the S 1000 R) and in the interval between 87 mph and 112 mph is 2.8 seconds (4.0 seconds for the S 1000 R).

The M R also features four ride modes – Rain, Road, Dynamic, and Race – as well as three “Pro” race modes, three adjustable throttle characteristics, a slip/assist clutch, and Shift Assistant Pro. The bike also features the latest generation of Dynamic Traction Control DTC and DTC wheelie function with 6-axis IMU, Launch Control, Hill Start Control Pro, and Dynamic Damping Control. For slowing and stopping power, the M R uses the M Brake system, ABS Pro with Race ABS, and Brake Slide Assist.

A Triumph Scrambler 1200 XE stunt bike used in the filming of No Time To Die sold for £138,600 GBP ($154,317 USD) to benefit the Severn Hospice in a charity auction held at Christie’s to celebrate 60 years of James Bond films.

Among the items auctioned, Triumph Motorcycles provided the Scrambler 1200 XE that was ridden by Daniel Craig as James Bond and also ridden by stunt riders Paul Edmondson and Martin Craven during production of the latest 007 film, No Time To Die. With an estimated value of £20,000-£30,000 ($22,000-$33,500 USD), the Scrambler 1200 XE was sold to an online bidder for £138,600 ($154,317 USD).

“Riding the Scrambler in No Time To Die was a privilege and certainly brought a smile to my face every time I rode it,” Paul Edmonson said.

Martin Craven agreed, calling the Scrambler “an incredible beast.”

“The Scrambler did everything we threw at it,” Craven said. “We raced it to an inch of its life.”

The proceeds raised from the auction of the Scrambler 1200 XE will go to the independent charity Severn Hospice, which gives specialist care and support free of charge to families across Shropshire, Telford annd Wrekin, and Mid Wales who are living with an incurable illness.

The live auction featured 25 lots comprising vehicles, watches, costumes, and props, many of which related to No Time To Die, with the final six lots offered representing each of the six actors who have played Bond. An online sale featuring 35 lots spanning the 25 films continues until James Bond Day on Oct. 5, 2022 – the 60th anniversary of the world premiere of the first James Bond film, Dr. No, in 1962.
