Sherco team up with Outback Motorcycle Adventures

Sherco team up with Alice Springs-based Outback Motorcycle Adventures

Sherco Australia will now be the official machine supplier for the Alice Springs-based Outback Motorcycle Adventures, with the Sherco 500 SEF Factory.

Sherco 500 SEF Factory

The company, which runs guided off-road motorcycle tours through the expansive Aussie outback, will soon take delivery of 18 Sherco 500 SEF Factory machines in preparation for the upcoming April to September season – which is already 90 per cent booked out!

During that period, the all-new French fleet will accommodate about 350 individual riders spending about 75 days under the Outback Motorcycle Adventures umbrella. That’s a total mileage of about 200,000 km, with backing provided by a fully self-sufficient support truck and two 4WDs.

As well as the guided tours, Outback Motorcycle Adventures will also continue its popular Finke Desert Race hire and support package in 2022, which will see 15 of the 500 SEF Factory four-stroke machines taking time out from more leisurely pursuits to line up in the cut-throat open four-stroke class.

Outback Motorcycle Adventures

Damian McGrath – Outback Motorcycle Adventures’ Co-Owner

“We’re delighted to join forces with Sherco. When it became clear that we were seeking a new partner for our tours Sherco was high on our priority list and, once we dug a little deeper, it soon became obvious that it was a perfect fit for our requirements as we return to normal service after two Covid-affected years. We can’t wait to start prepping the Shercos for the big season ahead.”

McGrath shares ownership of Outback Motorcycle Adventures – which was founded in 2017 – with Finke Desert Race legend Michael Vroom, who won the event in 2001.

Michael Poynton – Director of Mojo Motorcycles

“This is a real fillip for Sherco in Australia. Our 300s, both two- and four-stroke, remain universally popular, but once more and more people ride the 500 SEF Factory I think we will find a whole new host of Sherco devotees. We’re confident the professionalism of Outback Motorcycle Adventures will showcase our 500 in the very best light. And, more than anything else, it’ll be great fun to open up over those vast desert spaces!”

Outback Motorcycle Adventures

The 2022 500 SEF Factory retains its mantle of horsepower king in the Sherco enduro line-up, and updates include a new factory exhaust, stronger gearbox, revised ignition mapping, better cooling properties, a new graphics kit, new Brembo brake pads and a new diamond-pattern Selle Dalle Valle seat. Price is $16,799.

Outback Motorcycle Adventures will run three main tours in 2022: Simpson Desert crossings, visits to the ‘Rock’ (Uluru), as well as the Finke Desert Race Experience. Spots are filling fast across all three. For more information and to make bookings, visit www.outbackmotorcycleadventures.com.au.

All the Shercos will be meticulously serviced and presented as ‘new’ on each tour, and Outback Motorcycle Adventures also offers a personalised setup for all riders, including suspension.

Electric kids bikes ensure our future

One of the biggest threats to the future of motorcycles is the loss of motocross tracks around Australia due to the noise issue in areas of urban sprawl.

Young MX riders are the next generation of motorcyclists.

Getting kids on motorcycles helps develop their hand-eye coordination, balance and alertness.

But rapidly expanding urban areas are threatening the existence of motocross parks and in some states, it is now even illegal to operate a motorcycle on private property within 100m of your fence line.

However, the growth of quiet electric motorcycles and balance bikes for children could be the answer to this growing problem.

Many manufacturers are now introducing these bikes to their range — even Harley-Davidson, although not yet in Australia!

French motorcycle manufacturer Sherco has had a lot of success here with their Factory electric enduro models which they are now expanding to electric balance bike ranks.

Less than a year after Sherco Australia launched their EB12 and EB16 electric balance bikes, the EB16 Factory now provides a higher-spec alternative.

It costs $999 and comes with a more powerful brushless motor, a rear disc brake, front suspension and styling updates.

They feature a simple twist-and-go throttle, a running time of up to 60 minutes and the option of a non-powered mode for kids to push, balance and coast before activating the brushless motor.

Meanwhile, all-out performance is the backbone of Sherco’s Factory enduro line-up, and the seven 2022 models – a quartet of four-strokes (250 SEF, 300 SEF, 450 SEF and 500 SEF) and three two-strokes (125 SE, 250 SE and 300 SE).

Sherco’s 2022 Enduro Racing line to boast up-spec KYB

2022 Sherco Racing & Factory Enduros

The Sherco Enduro range will see the Racing models on the receiving end of a big boost in 2020, with the addition of new fully adjustable KYB forks on both two and four-stroke models, alongside the same KYB shock seen on the higher spec Factory models.

Sherco’s Enduro Racing line will receive an update bringing it closer to the Factory models in 2022

Michael Poynton – Sherco Australia Director

“There is massive momentum behind Sherco, both in Australia and globally, and the 2022 Racing and Factory models will only continue that surge. And with all the Racing models now fitted with KYB suspension, Sherco covers all bases better than ever: the Factory models for those who want the ultimate performance hit, and the Racing range for those who enjoy a ‘Sunday saunter’ mixed with more demanding trails.”

On the back of record sales in 2021 and inexorable momentum not only in Australia but globally, Sherco has focussed heavily on its base-model ‘Racing’ range for 2022, including the 250 SE and 300 SE two-strokes and the 300 SEF four-strokes.

Sherco 300 SEF

Other updates to the 2022 Racing models include a new graphics kit featuring in-mold technology, new handlebar grips and different Brembo brake pads for more progressive engagement.

Standard highlights on the Racing models include a black comfort seat, black frame guards, black Excel rims and Michelin tyres.

All-out performance is the backbone of Sherco’s Factory enduro line-up, with the moniker a byword for premium components such as a KYB closed-cartridge fork, 6mm AXP skid plate, Galfer front disc, and expansion tank and radiator fan.

The Enduro Factory line remains the all-out performance options arriving from mid-July

There are seven models in the 2022 range: a quartet of four-strokes (250 SEF, 300 SEF, 450 SEF and 500 SEF) and three two-strokes (125 SE, 250 SE and 300 SE).

The 125 SE has also now been fitted with an electronic power valve to bring it into sync with its larger capacity two-stroke siblings.

Updates across the entire Factory range mirror those on the Racing models, with new graphics with in mould technology and the more progressive Brembo brake pads. Also new is diamond-paters grey Selle Dalla Valle seats, as well as a new Neken handlebar pad.

Updates include new graphics, brake pads, seats and handlebar pad

In addition, the 450 and 500 four-strokes also receive a new and lighter Sherco exhaust, a new crankshaft and larger bearings, revised ignition mapping and enhanced cooling via tweaks to the cylinder head.

Pricing for all the 2022 Shercos is expected shortly, with Factory models beginning to arrive from mid-July 2021 and the Racing models from September 2021. Riders are urged to contact their local dealer for more information, as the availability for each model will vary, so don’t miss out!

Sherco EB12 & EB16 e-balance bikes now available

Sherco EB12 & EB16 electric balance bikes

Sherco’s electric balance bikes are a great way for young riders to begin their two-wheeled journey, with two versions available, the EB12 and EB16, ensuring different size and skillsets of riders are covered.

Sherco EB12
Sherco EB12

The environmentally friendly and silent electric balance bikes have been a hit since they were released onto the Aussie market. They are not only a heaps of fun, but provide a masterclass for riders to learn the fundamentals of motorcycling – balance, hand-eye co-ordination, braking techniques and visual scanning.

Low and high power modes boost safety

On sale from all Sherco dealers for $649 (EB12) and $749 (EB16) respectively, the machines have height-adjustable seats, simple twist-and-go throttles, selectable low/full power modes, and there’s even a non-powered mode for riders to gain extra confidence before motors are introduced.

The EB12, with its 12-inch wheels, is suitable for children between the ages of two and six, or weighing up to 34 kg, with little or no experience on a balance bike. Children should have an inseam of more than 14 inches/35 cm to adequately touch the ground with a slight bend in the knees for optimum sizing.

Two different power brushless engines differentiate the EB12 and EB16

The 16-inch wheeled EB16, meanwhile, is suitable for children between five and six years of age (18”/45 cm inseam), or weighing up to 40 kg, with some experience on a balance bike or who are taller and need a larger platform.

The EB12 is powered by a 100W brush motor and a 2.6 Ah lithium-ion battery, which gives approximate top speeds of 7.5 km/h and 15 km/h (low/full power modes). The EB16 is paired with a larger 170W brush motor and a 5.2 Ah lithium-ion battery for top speeds of 10 km/h and 21 km/h (low/full power modes).

Batteries last an hour and take three to charge, extras can be purchased

Both bikes come with an Australian 240V household charger (as well as an owner’s manual and toolkit).

Running time for both models is up to 60 minutes of constant use, however battery range will vary depending on speed setting, rider weight and riding conditions. Recharge time is up to three hours via an external charge port for convenient recharging. Additional batteries are available ($139 for 2.6Ah or $199 for 5.2Ah – both are compatible with either model) for a quick and convenient swap to keep the fun times rolling.

A protected final drive also helps boost safety

Selectable low/full power modes, a fully enclosed chain cover, and a power cut-off switch built into the brake lever which automatically cuts power if the rider pulls in the lever – preventing a panic throttle twist.
