The STACYC Electric Kids Race main event will take place on the Super Hooligan racecourse.

Moto Classic Bike Show –  We’ve created a novel twist on the typical custom bike shows as we display each bike on the beach, on a raised stand backed by sand and waves.  The custom bikes range from mild resto-mods to wild choppers, scramblers, flat trackers, café racers and purpose-built race bikes.

West Coast Board Riders Surf Comp – Surfers will battle it out in a tag team format with local legends hitting the water in head to head competition for their respective surf cities. Roland Sands of RSD

“The Moto Beach Classic is the physical realization of a lifetime of insane ideas all jammed into one day at the beach. Surfing, motorcycles, music, racing, art, all on the sand where I grew up surfing. I couldn’t think of a better place to do it and with a better group of people.“

Diesel Clothing And Alpinestars Announce A New Collaboration

Alpinestars now gets infused with a little bit of Diesel style.

Begin press release:

DIESEL is excited to announce a new collaboration with Alpinestars; the preeminent Italian masters of technical leather gear known for their motorcycle racing expertise.

The partnership is seen as a mini-capsule within DIESEL’s Fall/Winter 2019 release.

The reasoning behind the collaboration is multi-fold. DIESEL has consistently looked to moto-racing for inspiration over the years, going as far back as the 1980’s when the company would sponsor competitive events. Fast forward a few decades, and DIESEL has continued to be fueled by moto-races, involving everything from partnerships –like the ones with the legendary Italian motorcycle manufacturer Ducati– to aesthetic design details into multiple collections (even as recently as our current season, Spring/Summer 2019). Adrenaline, instinct, grit and bravery—all are involved in the sport, and all power DIESEL’s ethos. This is why the company has been galvanized by moto-racing over four decades.

By linking-up with an established and highly regarded Italian company like Alpinestars, the leader in motorsport protection and design, DIESEL injects an enhancement in both craft and creativity for Fall/Winter 2019, paying homage to the roots of both companies while also boosting uniqueness and variety for customers.

The capsule features: 2 men’s leather jackets inspired by the archives of both brands, which feature motorcycle details and leather patches that recall sponsorship logos (these are all rendered, however, with DIESEL iconography); and 1 men’s biker jacket paired with 1 pair of leather pants. The women’s equivalent is reflected by 1 biker jacket in leather combined with a mini leather skirt. Additionally, to complete the capsule, sweaters, t-shirts, a cap and a pair of shoes will further capture the snarl and the vibe of the motorcycle racing world.

To engage existing and new audiences, DIESEL and Alpinestars have worked with talents from the moto-racing community, ensuring consistency across their promotions. The goal is to celebrate and spotlight DIESEL and Alpinestars’ commitment to the discipline—and a shared passion for bold, high-octane competition. The collection will be available at select DIESEL stores worldwide and on diesel.com.

Strategy pays off for Dovizioso in Aragon resurgence

Strategy pays off for Dovizioso in Aragon resurgence

Italian contender reaches second after starting from P10.

Image: Supplied.

Andrea Dovizioso is thankful his tyre strategy paid off the Aragon grand prix last weekend, which saw him surge from 10th on the grid to second by the end of the 23-lap outing.

The Ducati Team rider suffered a pair of challenging rounds at Silverstone and Misano, making his performance on Sunday all the more satisfying for the Italian contender.

“It was very important to get back onto the podium after the races at Silverstone and Misano, and so today I’m very happy, especially because of the way in which we were able to get this second place,” Dovizioso commented.

“I started 10th from the fourth row because of a mistake I made in qualifying yesterday, but I knew I had a good pace and on the grid we made the right choice of tyres, going for the soft rear. In the race I was constant right until the very end, I saved my tyres and managed to gain place after place until I could pass Jack and Maverick to finish the GP in second place.”

Dovizioso is ranked second in the championship standings, 98 points behind reigning champion Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda).

Kallio ‘missing experience’ with current-spec tyre in Aragon return

Kallio ‘missing experience’ with current-spec tyre in Aragon return

P17 for test rider turned Zarco replacement at the Spanish grand prix.

Image: Supplied.

Red Bull KTM Factory Racing test rider and now Johann Zarco fill-in Mika Kallio admits he lacked experience with the current offering of race tyres at the Aragon grand prix, marking his first MotoGP racing appearance in over a year.

Kallio showed strong pace at the beginning of the 23-lap encounter, however suggested he made a mistake in tyre selection due to minimal time spent on the latest specification rubber, leading him to drop near the end of the outing.

Crossing the line P17, the result marked a valuable hitout for the Finnish ace, who’s replacing Zarco for the remainder of the season after he was benched by the Austrian manufacturer.

“My last MotoGP race was a long time ago so it was difficult to find the rhythm and get on the same level as the others,” Kallio explained. “We needed the laps today and I think we did quite okay. Everything can always be better but for the first weekend it was alright and we kept the mistakes to a minimum.

“The only disappointing thing was missing out of the points and I think maybe I made a mistake with the tyre choice. I was missing experience with how the soft or the hard would behave. We made good times in tricky conditions and I always like those and I had a good feeling with the bike.

“Who knows? Maybe we can have a race like that in the rest of the season. We’ll set some target now for the rest of the weekends this year. We’ll see how it goes in Thailand.”

Kallio was the only factory KTM rider out on-track on Sunday after Spaniard Pol Espargaro suffered a fractured wrist in FP4.

Brookes content in overcoming early challenges at Assen BSB

Brookes content in overcoming early challenges at Assen BSB

Be Wiser Ducati records 2-4 scorecard in the Netherlands.

Image: Supplied.

Josh Brookes was satisfied to overcome early challenges at Assen’s 10th round of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship (BSB), qualifying in fifth before charging to second in the opening encounter.

Despite acknowledging he discovered the best set-up of the weekend in race two, the Be Wiser Ducati rider managed just a P4 result, which still keeps well in the title fight as two rounds remain.

“After the struggles I had in the first two days, second in race one felt like a win,” Brookes stated. “I haven’t got close to the times I’ve set in previous years but the team gave me a bike I needed to challenge for a podium and although I didn’t have enough for the win, I was a lot closer compared to where I was.

“It was a good battle for second in the first race which I managed to come out on top of, but I was a little bit disappointed with fourth in race two as it was the best the bike had felt all weekend. Scott was on a different level to the rest this weekend but I’m only 14 points behind and I’m still very much in title contention.”

The Australian sits 14 points behind teammate and WorldSBK bound rider Scott Redding, as the BSB series heads to Donington Park on 4-6 October for the penultimate round.

Honda NSR500V | Eric Offenstadt special explored engineering concepts

Eric Offenstadt Experimental NSR500 Racer

With Phil Aynsley

The French Tecmas team competed in the 500cc World Championship from 1997 until 2000, using Honda’s NSR500V. Riders were Regis Laconi (1997), Sebastien Gilbert (1998, 1999 & 2000) and Bernard Garcia (1998).

This bike is an experimental design by Eric Offenstadt, tested in 2000/01 (using a 1997 frame). The major feature is the steeply angled front forks, which are adjustable between 20.5 and 23.5 degrees, together with the re-welding of the front section of the frame, changed triple clamps and the front axle positioned well in front of the centreline of the forks.

When the fork tubes are compressed the offset of the wheel axle varies with the angle, since it is no longer parallel to the directional geometric axis. This results in the axle being 40mm from the direct axis under no load to 20mm from the same axis when compressed.

Additionally the brake grip is improved as the wheel is more vertical. Finally the wheelbase is reduced even more than with a normal front end under braking but it takes a bit more braking power for the rear wheel to lift.

Other interesting details are the integrated brakes and the use of a single-sided swingarm with a large pinion to reduce the forces of the gearbox/chain on the rear suspension.

During testing at Almeria in 2000 Sylvain Guintoli came within 1.2 seconds of Troy Bayliss’ circuit record set on the factory 996 Ducati superbike.

Lack of funds caused the project to be cancelled in 2001. The bike carries Fredric Moreira’s name as he was the final test rider at the Pau circuit in 2001.

Ferris willing to mentor youthful Australian MXoN squad

Ferris willing to mentor youthful Australian MXoN squad

Western Australian duo to benefit from experienced team members believes Ferris.

Image: Foremost Media.

Three-time Pirelli MX Nationals MX1 champion Dean Ferris has declared he’s willing to mentor youthful Australian teammates Kyle Webster (Penrite Pirelli CRF Honda Racing) and Regan Duffy (Raceline KTM Thor) at Assen’s Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations (MXoN) this weekend in the Netherlands.

Webster, 23, and Duffy, 17, will represent the country for the very first time at the prestigious event this Saturday and Sunday, while Ferris, a former MXGP World Championship regular, will do the honour for the sixth time in his career.

While the pair are inexperienced on the world stage in comparison to Ferris, the Raceline Recover8 KTM rider is confident that sharing his knowledge, along with the years of experience of team manager Michael Byrne and Gary Benn, will allow the Western Australian duo to smoothly race through the weekend.

“I’m pretty familiar with everything that goes on over there and the whole scene, so for Regan and Kyle, I’ll help out wherever I can,” Ferris explained to MotoOnline.com.au. “We’ve got Gary Benn and Byrner as well – they’ve been there and done that.

“I know they’re young, but they’re eager and there are some old fellas to look out for them. I think it’s awesome – they’re young and have a lot of energy, so it’s definitely a good team that we’ve got.”

Webster, one of the country’s most elite sand riders, was named in the initial three-man squad to contest the MXD category, while Duffy was called in to replace Mitch Evans (Team Honda 114 Motorsport) in the Open class – his selection coming after a glowing Manjimup 15,000 performance aboard the 450 while also claiming the 2019 MXD crown.

Dunlop Geomax MX53 Next Generation MX Tire

A new offering for riders who like to do it in the dirt, the Dunlop Geomax MX53 delivers more performance over a broader swath of off-road terrains.

Begin Press Release:

Introducing Dunlop’s Next Generation MX Tire: The Geomax MX53

Buffalo, NY: Introducing Dunlop’s next generation intermediate-to-hard terrain off-road MX tire: the Geomax® MX53. Designed to offer more performance in a wider variety of terrains, the MX53 excels in hard-packed track conditions while also offering greater versatility in intermediate riding conditions.

With its upgraded technology, the MX53 will give riders more versatility with better performance. This is in part due to the all-new tread pattern on both the front and rear tires. A revolutionary horseshoe-shaped cluster of knobs has been added to the front tire. This acts as a giant claw to dig into the ground and give the rider improved traction on hard-packed terrain and maximizes braking grip.

The Geomax MX53 now also features Dunlop’s patented Progressive Cornering Block technology on the front tire. This technology, commonly known as Block-In-A-Block, allows enhanced flex on each knob resulting in ultimate grip and even more biting edges.

This bold new pattern of blocks has a hollowed-out portion on the center tread, resulting in less stiffness in the center of the tire, giving riders better feedback and more compliance. Paired with a taller profile, this new MX53 front tire provides gentler handling, more traction, higher lean angles and better maneuverability when compared to its predecessor.

Dunlop’s patented Block-In-A-Block technology on the rear tire borrows from the success of the upgrades in technology added to the Geomax MX33, Dunlop’s soft-to-intermediate tire.

Incorporating these block designs that have already proven successful now gives the MX53 more biting edges, increased grip and enhanced flex on each individual knob. These elements all contribute to enhance durability and performance in harder terrains.

The compound that was chosen for the MX53 tires has a high number of molecular polymer particles. This results in higher fracture strength, meaning more durability. Dunlop has also added more fine carbon particles. The carbon particles are what give the Geomax tires their legendary grip. More Durability. More Grip. What more could you ask for?

The MX53 lineup is now shipping and will be available at all off-road dealerships by the end of the month.

“We know how important it is to our customers to come to market with a strong lineup that supports our riders,” said Mike Buckley, SR. VP of Sales and Marketing. “When you see the next generation of a tire, and hear how well it performs, you don’t want to have to wait to try it for yourself.”
