Kawasaki Announces More 2023 Returning Models

Kawasaki announced the return of several sport, retro sport, naked, cruiser, adventure touring, and dual-sport models to its motorcycle lineup. These 2023 motorcycles are set to arrive in Kawasaki dealerships during the summer months.

Models included in this announcement are the Ninja 1000SX, Ninja 400 and 400 ABS, Z H2 and H2 SE, Z900RS and Z900RS Cafe, Z400 ABS, the Vulcan S and Vulcan 900 lineups, 1700 Voyager ABS, Versys-X300 and Versys-X300 ABS, and the KLR650 lineup.

2023 Kawasaki Ninja 1000SX

The Kawasaki Ninja 1000SX is back with its refined sport-touring capabilities, combining the power of a supersport with the feel of an upright sportbike and familiar Ninja styling.

The Ninja 1000SX features a 1,043cc liquid-cooled inline-Four, Kawasaki Traction Control, Kawasaki Intelligent anti-lock Braking System (KIBS), Kawasaki Quick Shifter, 4.3-inch all-digital TFT color instrumentation, and electronic cruise control.

Ideal for both experienced riders and newer riders looking to step up from a lower displacement bike, the 2023 Ninja 400 sport motorcycle offers the largest displacement in its category.

The 2023 Ninja 400 features a 399cc liquid-cooled parallel-Twin, a slip/assist clutch, a lightweight trellis frame, Uni-Trak rear suspension, a 310mm semi-floating petal disc brake and 2-piston caliper in the front, and 220mm petal disc brake and 1-piston caliper in the rear.

The flagship model of the Kawasaki Z lineup, the 2023 Z H2 features a balanced supercharged 998cc liquid-cooled inline-Four, a 6-speed dog-ring gearbox, a slip/assist clutch, a lightweight trellis frame, high-performance Showa suspension components, and Brembo monoblock brake calipers.

The bike also offers an IMU-based electronics package, Kawasaki Quick Shifter (KQS), Kawasaki Launch Control Mode (KLCM), Kawasaki Cornering Management Function (KCMF), electronic cruise control, integrated riding modes, all-digital TFT color instrumentation, smartphone connectivity via RIDEOLOGY THE APP, and LED lighting.

For 2023, the Z H2 comes in Metallic Phantom Silver / Metallic Carbon Gray and starts at $18,500.

The Z H2 SE offers the same features that come standard on the Z H2, with the addition of the Kawasaki Electronic Control Suspension (KECS) with Skyhook EERA Technology, which adapts to road and riding conditions in real-time, providing the ideal amount of damping by combining high-level mechanical components with the latest electronic control technology and reportedly giving the rider a smoother ride as it continually adapts to the road surface in real-time.

For braking power, the 2023 Z H2 SE will once again feature Brembo Stylema monoblock brake calipers, a Brembo front brake master cylinder, and steel-braided lines.

The Kawasaki Vulcan S sport cruisers are geared to fit a wide range of riders as a result of not only the bikes’ reported starting curb weight just shy of 492 lb but also the exclusive Ergo-Fit sizing system, which includes 18 possible configurations for the handlebar, footpegs, and seat.

Both bikes feature a 649cc liquid-cooled DOHC parallel-Twin and sportbike-derived chassis and suspension. The 2023 Vulcan S Cafe also comes equipped with three-tone paint, signature tank badging, sport striping, and a dark-tinted windshield deflector.

In our “Middleweight Touring Cruisers” comparison test, which included the Vulcan 900 Classic LT, Rider EIC Greg Drevendstedt wrote: “Cruisers are about style and sensation. How a cruiser looks is just as important as how it sounds and feels.”

All three of the 2023 Vulcan 900 cruiser models feature a 903cc liquid-cooled, fuel-injected V-Twin and a low seat height (26.8 in.).

The Vulcan 900 Classic features rider footboards with a heel/toe shifter, tank-mounted instrumentation, and a 180mm rear tire. The Vulcan 900 Classic LT features a studded seat with standard passenger backrest, leather saddlebags, and a height-adjustable windscreen. The Vulcan 900 Custom features wide drag bars and forward-mounted footpegs, a low center of gravity for easy handling, custom styling with a teardrop tank, parallel slash-cut pipes, and pinstripe wheels.

With a compact Ninja-derived 296cc liquid-cooled DOHC Twin, the Kawasaki Versys-X 300 is a nimble, lightweight motorcycle that’s suitable for commuting or touring.

The Versys-X 300 has a lightweight chassis, long-travel suspension, a low seat height (32.1 in.), front cowling with a tall windscreen, and a rear carrier.

The KLR650 sports a 652cc liquid-cooled Single nestled in a recently redesigned high-tensile double-cradle frame. In 2022, the bike was upgraded with new improved ergonomics, bodywork, a taller two-position adjustable windscreen, a larger aluminum rear carrier, increased generator capacity, and an LED headlight. It features all-digital multifunction instrumentation, an optional ABS system, and 7.9 inches of front travel coupled with 7.3 inches of rear travel.

The 2023 KLR650 Adventure is available in Cypher Camo Gray starting at $7,899, while the KLR650 Adventure ABS also comes in Cypher Camo Gray starting at $8,199.

Kawasaki celebrates Z 50th Anniversary with special livery

Kawasaki 50th Anniversary Editions


Kawasaki have revealed a host of special edition models to celebrate the Z model-line’s 50th anniversary, including the Z900, Z900RS, Z650 and the Z650RS, all boasting special heritage colour schemes to mark the occasion.

Anniversary Edition versions are expected in dealerships soon but pricing is yet to be announced.

On the Z900 we’re getting the Heritage Firecrack Red paint, with matching red wheels to make the bike stand out, alongside a gloss black frame and special textured seat.

Unique features will be the Z 50th emblem and logo, as well as a Z 50th Anniversary book, while fork tubes are finished in gold. Also run are dark blue and silver highlights to offset the red paintwork, with logos in gold and silver pinstripes on the wheels.

The Z900 runs the liquid-cooled in-line four-cylinder producing 92.2 kW and 98.6 Nm of torque, with a 948 cc displacement. 41 mm USD forks and a monoshock both offer rebound and preload adjustment.

Brakes are a set of 300 mm petal discs mates to four-piston calipers, with a 250 mm unit on the rear and single-piston caliper. Both backed by ABS.

The Z900 has a 820 mm seat height and weighs in at 212 kg at the kerb, fueled, with a 17 L fuel capacity. A slipper clutch is also standard fitment, with power modes, KTRC and Kawasaki smartphone connectivity.

For those after a more retro interpretation of the Z line, the Z900RS returns to the iconic Fireball pattern of the original Z1, which runs the Heritage two-tone Diamond Brown and Orange combo, alongside gold wheels.

The frame is also gloss black, with chrome headlight and meter trim rings, as well as a chrome passenger grab rail. Special 50th anniversary emblems and logos are also run, with a textured seat with contrast stitching.

Like the Z900 the Z900RS Anniversary edition will receive a special Z book, that won’t be available for general sale.

The Z900RS shares the in-line four-cylinder seen in the Z900 but running a different tune, with power output lower at 92 kW and torque remainining similar.

Higher specification suspension is however fitted, with 41 mm USD forks but offering compression, rebound and preload adjustment, while the rear mirrors the regular Z900 with the rebound and preload adjustable shock.

The Z900RS also runs a taller 835 mm seat height and more upright ergonomics, with taller bars, alongside the numerous aesthetic changes to achieve the retro look.

New riders won’t be left out of the anniversary celebrations with the popular Z650L also arriving in a 50th Anniversary edition, with the LAMS compliant 51 hp (37.8 kW) parallel-twin powerplant, offering 59 Nm of torque and an inviting 790 mm seat height.

The Z650 50th Anniversary edition runs the same Heritake Firecracker Red colour seen on the larger Z900, with gloss black frame and special textured seat. The bike will also be adorned with the special edition emblems and logos, and receive the Z 50th Anniversary book.

The Z650 runs a slip and assist clutch, dual 300 mm disc brakes with dual-piston calipers, 41 mm forks and a rear monoshock with preload adjustment. Smartphone connectivity is also standard, connecting to the TFT, with the bike weighing 187 kg with 15 litres of fuel.

The latest addition to the Z family is the new Z650RS, offering a retro themed alternative to the Z650 and boasting the Heritage two-tone Candy Diamond Brown and Orange colour scheme, as well as gold wheels.

Like all anniversary models the frame is gloss black, with Z 50th Annniversary emblems and logos and textured seat.

Standard fitment will be the chrome grab rail, headlight and meter trim rings, alongside the Z book.

As with the Z650 the Z650RS will be LAMS compliant, sharing the same suspension and brake specifications, while offering a slightly taller seat height of 800 mm, taller ‘bars and a more relaxed ergonomic.

The 2022 Kawasaki Z900RS SE takes its styling cues from Kawasaki’s original naked 900, the Z1.

Kawasaki has announced a new “SE” version of its retro-styled Z900RS for 2022, which features upgraded suspension and brakes. Up front are new radial-mount monoblock Brembo M4.32 calipers and new settings for the fully adjustable inverted fork, which now sports gold legs. Out back is a new fully adjustable Öhlins S46 rear shock with a remote preload adjuster.

Also new on the 2022 Kawasaki Z900RS is a new “Yellow Ball” color scheme, with Metallic Diablo Black paint, yellow highlights on the teardrop tank and rear fender, and fetching gold wheels.

At the heart of the Z900RS SE is a liquid-cooled, 948cc, 16-valve, inline-Four, which made 100 horsepower at 8,500 rpm and 67.5 lb-ft of torque at 6,700 rpm at the rear wheel in our 2020 comparison test. This lightweight and compact engine spools up quickly and delivers solid and smooth performance when pushed but is versatile enough to be ridden in traffic with ease. The high-tensile steel trellis frame has received revisions at the swingarm pivot point, which is now stronger.

A fully adjustable 41mm inverted fork offers 10 clicks of compression adjustment, 12 clicks of rebound adjustment, and a stepless preload adjuster. At the rear, the RS is fitted with a horizontal backlink Öhlins S46 shock with a remote preload adjuster. The shock is linked to an extruded lightweight aluminum swingarm to maximize handling, with the linkage placed atop the swingarm helps to centralize the weight.

Braking is provided by a pair of radial-mount monoblock Brembo 4-piston M4.32 front calipers squeezing 300mm petal discs with a Nissin radial-pump master cylinder. Out back, a 2-piston caliper squeezes a 250mm petal disc. ABS and stainless-steel braided lines are standard.

In keeping with the classic styling, the Z900RS SE is equipped with cast flat spoke wheels, finished in gold, to resemble traditional wire-spoked wheels. Dunlop GPR-300 tires further add to the retro credentials.

The Z900RS SE features a large-diameter round LED headlight with a convex lens and chrome ring, adding to the retro look without compromising on lighting. LEDs have replaced all the lights except for the turnsignals. A dual-dial analog instrument cluster is coupled with a multi-function LCD screen for retro-style with modern functionality. The LCD features white letters on a black background and includes a gear position indicator.

Much like the sporty bikes of the ’70s, the Z900RS SE has a relaxed, upright riding position. A wide flat handlebar means the grips are 30mm wider, 65mm higher, and 35mm closer to the rider compared to the sportier Z900, partly thanks to the raised upper-triple clamp. The footpegs are also 20mm lower and 20mm farther forward, enhancing the relaxed riding position. Rubber-mounted bar ends help dampen vibrations in the bars, and both the clutch and brake levers are 5-way adjustable to help accommodate a wide variety of hand sizes.

The slim fuel tank is narrow at the rear, which allows for easy knee gripping. A low seat height, combined with a slim design, adds to the rider’s ability to place both feet on the ground when stopped.

The 125 series of Kawasaki motorcycles (Ninja 125 and Z125) and the Z900RS have just been announced to come in new colorways to shake things up for the 2021 lineup.

The new options are both sleek and complicated making the exotic little 125cc motorcycles look that much faster. The Z125 sees three new color combinations that should be arriving at dealers come January of the new year:

  • Black, green, and white around green painted trellis frame
  • Black and green around a green painted trellis frame
  • Lime green and black with around a grey painted trellis frame

The 2021 Ninja 125 comes in a single new colorway with its beautiful race-inspired livery; black, red, and white accents on a green base resembling something you could find on an older ZX 10R.

If smaller displacement motorcycle news isn’t your thing, Kawasaki has some news for you as well. The Z900RS has two new liveries: ‘Ebony’ black/grey, and ‘Metallic Spark Black’ with grey/green vintage-inspired striping down the side of the tank.

Pricing has yet to be confirmed for these colorways, and dealers should be getting the new colors arriving in December with the Ebony version predicted to land in April of 2021.

It’s great to see Kawasaki introducing more black liveries to their lineup because historically the brand’s motorcycles have been pretty much off-limits to anybody impartial to neon green bikes.
