EICMA 2021: Honda Unveils 2022 CBR1000RR-R Fireblade, New ADV350 Scooter

Honda was one of the first manufacturers to showcase what it has in store for 2022 at EICMA, that’s currently underway in Milan. The Japanese manufacturer’s stand showcased multiple models, some of which we’re seeing for the first time. These include a new adventure scooter called the ADV350 and an update to its flagship supersport, the CBR1000RR-R Fireblade.

Honda also announced a handful of updates for its flagship offering, the CBR1000RR-R Fireblade. Peak output figures from the liter-class inline-four remain unchanged for 2022, but the manufacturer has updated its intake ports, airbox, airbox funnels, and exhaust mid-section for better mid-range performance. The bike also sports a larger 43-teeth rear sprocket — 3 more than before — for better acceleration in every gear.

The traction control and throttle feel have been refined, while the Nissin brake calipers receive a new material and surface finish.

Next year also marks the 30th anniversary of the Fireblade, and Honda is celebrating it by introducing a CBR1000RR-R Fireblade SP 30th Anniversary Edition. This bike features all of the updates we mentioned above, along with a lovely color scheme that pays homage to the original colors of the 1992 Honda CBR900RR Fireblade.

This limited-edition model also features gold-finished wheels, a special ‘ring of fire’ startup sequence on the TFT, and an Akrapovic end can.

2022 Honda ADV350

The new Honda ADV350 draws its roots from the popular X-ADV platform and is a bigger sibling to the ADV150. It’s powered by a 330cc, single-cylinder, fuel-injected engine that produces peak output figures of 29hp and 23 lb-ft of torque. The engine is housed in a tubular steel frame with a 37mm USD fork at the front and twin shock-absorbers at the rear. Considering its off-road nature, the scooter also features lightweight wheels — a 15-inch front and 14-inch rear — shod in dual-sport tires.

Asphalt and Rubber also report that the ADV350 offers a host of features, including a height-adjustable windscreen, a USB Type-C charging port, and enough room for two full-face helmets under the seat. In addition to these, there’s an LCD instrument panel that integrates the Honda Smartphone Voice Control system and Honda Selectable Torque Control (HSTC) as standard.

EICMA 2021: Royal Enfield SG 650 Concept Revealed

Royal Enfield has showcased a new concept at EICMA 2021 that’s currently underway. Dubbed the SG650, the concept is of a cruiser motorcycle that’s likely to debut sometime next year.

Bikewale has mentioned that the ‘SG’ suffix likely stands for ‘Shotgun’, which the upcoming motorcycle is expected to be called. The SG650 concept strikes a middle ground between what the company’s existing line-up of retro motorcycles looks like and the direction that its future products are heading in.

The showcased concept features a gorgeous brushed aluminum finish with black side panels, exhaust pipes, and a blacked-out engine. Interestingly, the bike also wears pretty funky graphics and is unlike anything we’ve seen on a Royal Enfield in the past. It’s too early to say if these will make it to the production motorcycle, but considering the brand’s retro roots and theme, it does seem somewhat unlikely.

The motorcycle’s front is, perhaps, the most familiar angle with a round headlight integrated into a nicely designed cowl. Royal Enfield has also mentioned that the tank and rims have been CNC billet machined from a solid aluminum block. It also sports a chopped rear fender and wide Metzeler tires that give it quite the imposing stance.

Interestingly, the SG650 concept also sports a USD fork — a feature we have yet to see on a Royal Enfield. Over the past few months, an inverted front fork has been seen on models that the company is currently testing, but none have been launched yet.

Powering the motorcycle is the same parallel-twin engine as on the Interceptor 650 and Continental GT 650. That’s all we know about the SG650 Concept at the moment, but we shall update this space with more information when it’s available.

What do you think about the new concept? Let us know in the comments below.

EICMA 2021: Aprilia Tuono 660 Factory, RS 660 Limited Edition Revealed

Last updated:

Aprilia has unveiled two new versions of the popular middle-weight Tuono 660 and RS 660 models at EICMA 2021. The Tuono 660 is now available in a ‘Factory trim, like it’s bigger sibling, while the RS 660 will now have a ‘Limited Edition’ variant.

Aprilia Tuono 660 Factory

The Tuono 660 Factory gets the Aprilia ‘Factory’ treatment and features higher-spec components when compared to the standard model.

For starters, the 41mm Kayaba USD fork and Sachs monoshock are now fully adjustable for compression, rebound damping, and preload. Aprilia has also managed to shave some weight off the motorcycle by using a lighter lithium battery. The Tuono 660 factory now weighs 181kg — 2kg less than before.

While the 660cc, forward-facing twin-cylinder engine remains essentially unchanged, there’s a bump in acceleration, thanks to the use of a shorter final drive with a 16-tooth pinion gear, one less than Tuono 660.

The Tuono 660 Factory offers an extensive list of electronic rider aids, including ATC (Aprilia Traction Control), AWC (Aprilia Wheelie Control), ACC (Aprilia Cruise Control), AQS (Aprilia Quick Shift), AEB (Aprilia Engine Brake), and AEM (Aprilia Engine Map). The bike also offers adjustable cornering ABS and five customizable riding modes.

Aprilia RS 660 Limited Edition

The RS 660 Limited Edition, meanwhile, features mainly cosmetic updates. Only 1,500 units will be produced, and they will come with a single seat cover, oversized top fairing, and the ability to set the quickshifter to run upside down, like on the GP bikes.

These 1,500 bikes will also come in a stars and stripes paint job to celebrate Aprilia’s success at the MotoAmerica Twins Cup.

EICMA 2021: Moto Guzzi V100 Mandello Unveiled

Last updated:

Moto Guzzi has officially showcased the V100 Mandello at EICMA 2021. The motorcycle was first revealed in September and was the first of a new generation of models to come. Now, the Italian marquee has shared information on all that it offers, and it certainly looks promising.

For starters, the V100 Mandello will be the first production motorcycle in the world to feature adaptive aerodynamics. The system automatically adjusts deflectors on either side of the fuel tank, depending on speed and riding mode. Moto Guzzi claims that the fully raised deflectors reduce air pressure on the rider by 22%. The windscreen is also electronically height-adjustable, and along with the adaptive aero tech, allows for the V100 Mandello to provide wind protection that’s on par with more substantial motorcycles.

Moto Guzzi V100 Mandello

The V100 Mandello is also the first Moto Guzzi to feature a liquid-cooled engine, quick-shifter, six-axis IMU, and semi-active suspension. Powering the bike is a new 1042cc, liquid-cooled, DOHC 90° V-Twin engine that produces peak output figures of 115hp and 77.4lb-ft. This lightweight and compact engine is 103mm shorter than the V85 TT’s engine. Motorcycle.com points out that in traditional Moto Guzzi fashion, the engine is mounted with the cylinders pointing to either side ahead of the rider’s legs, so the new head design was also chosen to improve rider comfort.

The engine is paired with a hydraulically-controlled wet clutch, with power delivered to the rear wheel via shaft drive encased in an aluminum single-sided swingarm. The swingarm is also directly connected to the suspension without a linkage.

As we mentioned above, this is the most technologically advanced motorcycle to leave the Moto Guzzi stable. Some of the electronics on offer include cornering ABS, cruise control, cornering lights, and four ride modes — Travel, Sport, Rain, and Road. Each of these manages three different engine mappings, four levels of traction control, three levels of engine braking, and calibration of the Öhlins Smart EC 2.0 semi-active suspension (on the higher-spec variant.

The V100 Mandello will be available in two variants. The higher-spec version will include the Öhlins semi-active suspension, along with a quick shifter, heated grips, and the Moto Guzzi MIA multimedia platform as standard. The Moto Guzzi MIA allows you to connect your smartphone to the motorcycle, use voice assistance, and control navigation and music via handlebar-mounted controls.

Prices for the 2022 Moto Guzzi V100 Mandello are yet to be revealed, and we shall post an update when they are available.
