More BMW cruiser models and parts

BMW’s return to the cruiser market with the R 18 looks like being a success story as the brand announces more models and Corbin adds an aftermarket fairing and seat.

It is usually a mark of the success of a new model when aftermarket companies of the calibre of Corbin of the US produce specific seats.

Not only have they produced a twin seat with backrests (pictured above), but they have also produced a bikini fairing for the cruiser model.

They say it will not only protect the rider with improved aerodynamics, but also help lower wind noise.

And to complement that quieter, calmer “bubble” they also have a Bluetooth audio kit for the fairing with 500 watts of power, a dash-mounted controller and JL Audio 5.25″ coaxial speakers.

Surely this means Corbin believe the model will be a huge sales success as do we after our road test last month.

It comes as BMW Australia has announced the arrival of the R 18 Classic.

A Touring model is expected later this year.

Corbin adds more motorcycle seats

American company Corbin has been easing saddle sores for years with their handcrafted seats for a multitude of bike brands and models.

Standard motorcycle seats are appalling quality. They are usually cheap and very uncomfortable.

You have to buy expensive models before you get comfort seat, low/high options, or leather.

Corbin is one of the biggest names in aftermarket seats with models for 27 motorcycle brands, including the electric Zero and three-wheeler Slingshot.

They are continually adding new models to their extensive range.

The latest are saddles for an eclectic mix of bikes including the Suzuki TU 250X for $US393, Honda Rebel 500 and 300 (CMX 500 in Australia) also $393 and the Ducati Panigale V4 ($US343). Postage is extra.

The Honda and Suzuki also have backrest options for $257.

All seats have colour, material and logo options.

All their seats are covered by a lifetime owner’s warranty for the basepan, foam and hardware, while the cover materials, heaters, coolers and workmanship are covered for one year.

If you are getting saddle sores or can’t last a whole day in the saddle, this is one of the cheapest options for getting some joy back into your riding.

Corbin seat for Royal Enfield Interceptor 650

Famous seat manufacturer Corbin has introduced a new seat to soften the hard ride of the new Royal Enfield Interceptor 650.

If the mark of a successful model is the number of aftermarket accessory companies that provide premium parts, Royal Enfield is on a winner with the new Interceptor and Continental GT 650.

Swedish premium suspension company Ohlins was the first with full suspension upgrades for the twins.

The FSK145 fork springs cost $A399 and the RE911 twin shocks are $A1129 or $A949 for the RE912.

They will be followed by full suspension for the 400cc Himalayan adventurer. Prices are expected to be $A399 for the FSK 144 forks and $A1395 for the RE 907 shocks.

American engine giant S&S Cycle has followed up with 750cc and 865cc big-bore kits, mufflers and various other parts for the twins. (See end of article for a full price list.)S&S Cycles big bore kit for Royal Enfield 650 camshaft-kit-royal-enfield-650

It is made with Comfort Cell foam and accepts an adjustable removable passenger backrest ($US257).Corbin seat for Royal Enfield Interceptor 650

A simple setscrew on the rear of the backrest sets the angle without removing it from the seat. Support hardware is built inside the seat to keep a clean look without external brackets.

There is also a small, plastic four-litre top box ($US393) available for the backrest to store wets, gloves, water, maps, etc.
