CFMoto confirms range of electric scooters

Chinese motorcycle and scooter manufacturer CFMoto has confirmed it will produce a range of electric vehicles which will be available in Australia from 2022.

Last month, they announced the purpose-built electric 300GT-E police bike.

Now they have followed up with the announcement of an electric sub-brand called ZEEHO and a Cyber concept scooter.

CFMoto Australia importer Michael Poynton of Mojo Motorcycles says the production version of will go on sale in China in the first half of 2021 and reach Australian showrooms in 2022 even though he reckons Aussies are ready for electric urban vehicles.

“They are scheduled for release in the Chinese domestic market first half of 2021. We need to wait for this happen before we can begin with our own ADR (Australian Design Rules compliance) testing,” he says.

“This process takes time, hence the 2022 introduction date.”

Like most CFMoto products, this is designed by Austrian designers Kiska who also design for KTM.

CFMoto and KTM have had a long association with the Chinese manufacturer producing small-capacity KTM bikes for the local market for several years.

So this new announcement sparks speculation that KTM will also soon wind up its electric product range.

KTM has been in no hurry to get into electric motorbikes with only the Freeride E trials bikes in production since 2015.CFMoto electric Cyber scooter

Meanwhile, CFMoto’s electric scooters will soon arrive with a “Cobra” powertrain consisting of a 10kW mid-mounted and water-cooled IP6-certified electric motor delivering 21.3Nm of torque.

They claim a 0-50km/h acceleration time of 2.9 seconds and a  top speed of 110km/h.

The Farasis Energy 4kWh lithium-ion battery provides 130km of effective range according to New European Driving Cycle guidelines, while a fast-charging system recharges 80% of the battery’s capacity within 30 minutes.

The battery management system has a lifespan of 2500 cycles, or eight years, and a riding distance of up to 300,000km during operating temperatures between -20 and 55 degrees Celsius.

The hi-tech scooters also include six high-definition cameras for a complete 360-degree obstacle warning system, Bosch stability control and a ride-by-wire system with ‘Eco,’ ‘Street’ and ‘Sport’ riding modes.

There will also be a special ZEEHO app which will show battery status, navigation and allow users to customise their dashboard.CFMoto electric Cyber scooter

Other tech features are smart communications, keyless start, mobile unlock, voice commands, remote diagnostics, live vehicle tracking for vehicle security and “traffic-appropriate integration of social networking”.

So maybe you can check your Facebook status when sitting at the traffic lights!

Surprisingly, it has quality Brembo disc brakes with ABS, adjustable suspension and Pirelli Diablo tyres.

Also surprising is that it is chain drive instead of direct or belt driven.

While CFMoto is a market leader on price, these scooters may not be among the cheapest.

Michael says pricing is yet to be announced, but confirms they will retain the quality components.

“However when you look at the quality of components used and the impressive performance figures, I certainly wouldn’t expect these to be the cheapest electric scooters on the market,” he says.

He hopes the range of electric scooters will be followed by electric motorcycles like the police bike.

Michael also says there has been no Aussie customer backlash over the current China trade issues.

“CFMoto sales are up considerably in 2020 with our retail volumes setting a new record and showing no signs of slowing,” he says.

CFMoto Adds Electric Police Bike

China has the most electric vehicles on the road in the world so it is no wonder their police force is about to start riding CFMoto electric motorcycles.

The purpose-built 300GT-E police bike will be rolled out across police departments in many of China’s biggest cities.

It is also expected to be the basis of an electric motorcycle for the civilian masses.

CFMoto Australia importer Michael Poynton of Mojo Motorcycles says there is not much further information available for this model or the Chinese manufacturer’s “soon-to-be-launched electric sub-brand.

However he believes Australia is ready for electric commuter models, including scooters.

“We will see more models rolled out across this segment in 2021,” he says.

The 300GT-E has a top speed of 120km/h and 150km of range with fast-charging capability.

However, Michael did not know any further details about whether the range was in the city which is usually longer or on the highway.

He also doesn’t know the charging times on 240V mains power nor fast charging.

But it appears CFMoto is serious about going electric with a quarter of their 2600 workforce assigned to research and development of the new electric sub brand.

“Given the rapid rate of pace for the brand – and its recent R&D boost thanks to KTM – it makes sense that CFMOTO invests heavily in a future of sustainable, electric vehicles,” Michael says.

electric CFMoto police bike

“Beyond its police lights and sirens, the 300GT-E represents the beginning of a standalone electric sub-brand for CFMOTO in the not-too-distant future.”

The 300GT-E is powered by a water-cooled motor with a toothed belt drive and high-density lithium battery cell mid-mounted for a low centre of gravity.

Power output is just 18kW, but like most electric motors we expect it will have substantial and immediate maximum torque.

It also features onboard connectivity for police communications, cloud-based vehicle status and live location updates, built-in satellite navigation via a 7.0-inch TFT screen and keyless ignition.

electric CFmoto Police bike

Like most electric motorcycles there are three riding modes, presumably a low-powered mode for conserving charge, a commuter mode and probably a go-fast mode for police pursuits, although only up to 120km/h.

Other features include Bosch ABS, upside-down forks and monoshock, height-adjustable windscreen, 17-inch alloy wheels and LED lighting.

CFMoto also recently launched their biggest bike yet, the 1250J police and state guest escort motorcycle, which is expected to also become the basis for a civilian model.

CFMoto celebrate 15 years in Australia

CFMoto recently also celebrated their 15-year anniversary in Australia which was marked by record sales that saw the brand surpass 25,000 unit sales of motorcycles, ATV and UTVs through its network nationwide since the brand was first introduced into Australia in 2005, when Mojo Motorcycles directors Joshua Carter and Michael Poynton began importing CFMoto scooters under the brand Mojo Scooter Co. A relationship quickly formed, and Mojo Motorcycles identified CFMoto’s strategy towards becoming a serious global player in the powersports industry.

“CFMOTO was founded in 1989, so it’s still a relatively young company. In that short time, however, it’s become a seriously powerful player in the ATV/UTV markets across the globe, and we knew big, bold moves were on the horizon for the company’s motorcycle division. We’ve been the official distributor for CFMOTO here in Australia and New Zealand for 15 years now, and the rapid rate of progress the company has shown never ceases to amaze me. And on top of that – amid a year of a global pandemic no less – we’re seeing record sales as we prepare for the arrival of an unprecedented number of new models in local showrooms.”

CFMoto Australia current motorcycle range comprises seven models, all of which are LAMS-approved and come with an extended three-year factory warranty until December 31, 2020. CFMoto’s road motorcycle range includes four NK naked bikes (in 150, 250, 300 and 650 capacities) as well as the 650MT adventure tourer, 650GT sports tourer and the sharply-styled 300SR – CFMoto’s first fully-faired sportsbike – which has just arrived in local showrooms with a rideaway price of $5790.

CFMoto Australia is set for a barrage of new-model activity next year, particularly in the road motorcycle segment. Early next year will welcome the arrival of the all-new 700CL-X range – CFMOTO’s first full-powered motorcycle – featuring an all-new 693 cc parallel-twin engine that produces 55 kW (73 hp) of power at 8500 rpm and 68 Nm of torque at 7000 rpm.

The range kicks off with the wire-spoke-wheeled 700CL-X Classic naked bike early next year followed by the 700CL-X Adventure and 700CL-X Sport from around April.

CFMoto has also unveiled the largest and most powerful motorcycle ever produced by a Chinese manufacturer: the 1250TR-G. Unveiled at the recent 2020 Chongqing Motor Expo and on sale in China in the first half of 2021, the 1250TR-G is a grand-touring version of the all-new 1250J police and state guest escort motorcycle. The 1250TR-G luxury tourer debuts CFMOTO’s 105 kW/120 Nm 1278 cc V-twin derived from CFMoto’s partnership with KTM.

CFMOTO partnered with KTM in 2013 to produce small-capacity KTM-badged models for China, a market of which last year tallied 17.1 million motorcycle sales.

The CFMoto-KTM partnership was formed back in 2017

The CFMOTO/KTM joint venture today comprises an office and recently completed R&D building while an all-new manufacturing facility in Hangzhou will be operational later this year. The joint venture will further expand CFMoto’s research and development team, which currently comprises more than 200 employees across five countries – in addition to CFMoto’s workforce of more than 2600 employees worldwide.

CFMoto Marks 15-Year Aussie Anniversary

Chinese brand CFMoto is marking 15 years in Australia with sales surpassing 25,000 and no hint of a slow-down despite recent trade disagreements between the two countries.

Distrbitor Mojo Motorcycles has been importing the bargain-priced bikes since 2005 and now has more than 80 dealerships across the country.

Mojo boss Michael Poynton says there has been no backlash over the trade dispute.

“CFMoto has posted record retails sales this year in Australia with no signs of things slowing down, especially with the new models on the horizon,” he says.

“So in answer to your question, absolutely not.”

CFMoto 700CL-X

The new models he refers to are the sexy 700CL naked bike and the company biggest bike yet, the 1250TR-G sports tourer.

The 700CL has been delayed to early next year and pricing should be announced later in 2020, Michael says.

Pricing on the 1250TR-G is yet to be confirmed, but if it is like the rest of their range which is all learner-approved, it should be the cheaper in its class.

Australia’s relationship with CFMoto kicked off in 2005 when Mojo Motorcycles directors Joshua Carter and Michael Poynton began importing scooters under the brand Mojo Scooter Co.

CFMoto officially launces 1279cc Grand Tourer

Unveiled at the recent 2020 Chongqing Motor Expo and on sale in China in the first half of 2021, the 1250TR-G is a luxury-appointed civilian version of the 1250J police and state guest escort motorcycle, which debuted in May as a successor to the 650TR-G.

The civilian version of the 650TR-G attracted a large number of Chinese motorcyclists for its innovative design, high-end configuration and all-day comfort. Research showed, however, that the 650TR-G was attracting younger customers looking for a more powerful and sophisticated model to upgrade to, thus the CFMOTO 1250TR-G was born.

JBL multimedia sound system; an electrically adjustable windscreen; heated grips and seat; a tyre-pressure monitoring system

The 1250TR-G is powered by a 1279cc liquid-cooled V-twin derived from CFMOTO’s partnership with KTM. As such, the largest-capacity and most powerful motorcycle in China has impressive outputs of 105kW (140hp) of power at 8500rpm and 120Nm of torque at 7000rpm – well ahead of the nearest competition – onto a top speed of 220km/h.

Powered by a KTM-derived 1279cc V-twin producing 105kW (140hp) and 120Nm

Running gear comprises a six-speed transmission, a slipper clutch and chain final drive. The 1250TR-G has a fuel capacity of 22.7 litres and a kerb weight of 300kg.

In addition to its pulsating V-twin heart, the 1250TR-G features semi-active WP electronic suspension with electrically adjustable damping and preload as well as a ride-by-wire throttle with four ride modes.

Stopping power comes courtesy of Brembo radial-mounted calipers, which integrates with the surety of cornering traction control and cornering ABS systems for maximum stability when faced with road debris while leaning.

In keeping with its GT virtues, the 1250TR-G features a premium JBL multimedia sound system; an electrically adjustable windscreen; heated grips and seat; a tyre-pressure monitoring system and a generous luggage capacity via hard panniers and a topbox, which includes a pillion seat backrest as standard.

Furthermore, in a motorcycling first, the 1250TR-G features a massive 12.3-inch colour TFT dash, which provides an unobstructed display of vehicle information and Bluetooth connectivity.

CFMOTO has always been first to market with new technology and the greatest advancement of product – first with liquid-cooled engines, first with EFI and first to develop larger-capacity engines. This includes 650cc parallel-twin for motorcycles, 800cc V-twin for ATV/UTV, and now the 1280cc V-twin for the 1250TR-G,” CFMOTO Australia director Michael Poynton says.

The joint venture with KTM gives CFMOTO a massive injection of experience and expertise from the best in the business, all of which will help accelerate CFMOTO’s growth in R&D, manufacturing, marketing, aftersales and, of course, the products themselves. The 1250TR-G is just a taster of that.

CFMOTO has sold more than 25,000 vehicles since its 2005 Australian debut through its Australian-owned distributor, Mojo Motorcycles, and network of more than 80 dealers. Mojo Motorcycles is based in Altona, Melbourne. Its head office comprises a 5000sqm, company-owned custom-built office and warehouse.

CFMoto Launches the 1250TR-G

The partnership between KTM and CFMoto has now created a large-displacement touring motorcycle. The bike is called the 1250TR-G. It was recently revealed at the CIMA show in China.

The 1250TR-G features KTM’s LC-8 1,279cc twin engine at the heart of the touring motorcycle, and it will put out 140 hp and 89 lb-ft of torque.

The bike doesn’t just have good power and torque from a KTM-sourced engine. According to Bennetts, it also managed to leverage its relationship with KTM to get WP Suspension components and Brembo brakes. There are even a JBL built-in stereo system and a 12.3-inch TFT dash.

CFmoto

rare bmws for auction

The new bike looks like it could rival motorcycles like the Honda Goldwing in terms of equipment and technology and features. It will be interesting to see how CFMoto’s new bike stacks up against the competition.

The company hasn’t released pricing yet on the motorcycle and the bike is currently only scheduled for sale in the Chinese market, though I could see this being a winner for CFMoto on a global scale. If you could get a bike that provides KTM levels of technology and performance at a much lower price point, I could see riders around the globe happy to make the purchase.

CFMoto Confirms CF1250

CFMoto has confirmed their largest bike yet will not only be available as a Chinese police bike, but also in civilian clothes for the global market.

Back in May, Michael Poynton, director of Australian importer Mojo Motorcycles, told us the civvy version of the CF1350J was coming, but not for a while.

“I haven’t received technical details yet from CFMoto,” he told us.

Well, now he has.

It will be powered by the largest-capacity motorcycle engine not only in CFMoto’s 30-year history, but also China’s motorcycle manufacturing history.

The CF1250 will be powered by a 1278cc V-twin producing 105kW (140hp) of power and 120Nm of torque.

It is basically a heavily re-engineered version of KTM’s LC8 V-twin, manufactured under licence.

CFMoto and KTM have had a long association with the Chinese manufacturer producing small-capacity KTM bikes for the local market for several years.

CFMoto

The CF1250 will not only have their biggest engine, but also the world’s biggest colour TFT dash with a 12.3-inch screen.

This bike is part of a model assault into new segments planned by the Chinese company in partnership with KTM, starting with the 700CL-X early next year.

CFMoto 700CL-X

CFMoto have just opened a new office and research and development building in Hangzhou and later this year will commission their new 150,000sqm high-tech factory. It has a potential production capacity of 50,000 larger-capacity (790cc-plus) motorcycles a year.

Company chairman and owner Lai Guogui says they wanted to demonstrate their capability with larger-displacement models.

“While other companies in the domestic Chinese powersports industry were developing 125/150cc bikes, CFMoro was making our 650NK model, on which we are already on to the second generation,” he says.

“And while other companies are developing 250/300/400cc bikes, CFMoto is developing a 1000cc-plus bike.”

In Australia, the Chinese company has sold more than 25,000 vehicles since it debuted in 2005 through its Australian-owned distributor, Mojo Motorcycles. They now have more than 80 dealers.

They have also increased their two-year warranty to three years for all CFMoto motorcycles bought until the end of the year.

CFMoto expanding in more ways than one

CFMoto ramping up to become strong force

CFMOTO will unveil several all-new models as the increasingly-global brand’s 2013 joint venture with KTM begins to bear fruit.

The new-model assault will target new two-wheel segments for CFMOTO, including developing and marketing the largest and most powerful motorcycles ever produced by a Chinese manufacturer.

This includes the largest-capacity motorcycle in CFMOTO’s 30-year history: the CF1250, which will debut the company’s 1278cc V-twin powerplant. Producing 105kW (140hp) of power and 120Nm of torque, the engine is a heavily re-engineered version of KTM’s LC8 V-twin, manufactured under licence.

A civilian version of the CF1250J will debut CFMOTO’s new 1278cc V-twin powerplant (105kW (140hp) and 120Nm)

The CF1250 was unveiled in May in the guise of China’s new official Police motorcycle, the CF1250J, which will soon be deployed across the country’s various law enforcement agencies. Furthermore, in a motorcycling first, the CF1250 features a massive 12.3-inch colour TFT dash, which provides an unobstructed display of vehicle information.

Forthcoming models will be born in CFMOTO’s new office and research and development building in Hangzhou, China, which officially opened in August 2020. A new 150,000sqm high-tech manufacturing facility will be operational later this year, with a potential production capacity of 50,000 larger-capacity (790cc-plus) motorcycles per year.

CFMOTO partnered with KTM in 2013 to produce small-capacity KTM-badged models for China – one of the largest motorcycle markets in the world. The joint-venture company is known as CFMOTO-KTMR2R in which CFMOTO holds a majority share of 51 per cent, with the remaining 49 per cent held by KTM. A 25 per cent share of CFMOTO stock was floated on the Shanghai Stock Exchange in 2017.

“We wanted to demonstrate that CFMOTO has the capability to satisfy our customers’ need for larger-displacement models, as part of our intention to provide greater choices for customers in the future,” CFMOTO chairman and owner Lai Guogui says.

“It’s intended as a great showcase of CFMOTO’s access to advanced technology in design and styling. While other companies in the domestic Chinese powersports industry were developing 125/150cc bikes, CFMOTO was making our 650NK model, on which we are already on to the second generation. And while other companies are developing 250/300/400cc bikes, CFMOTO is developing a 1000cc-plus bike. It’s a great proof of CFMOTO’s brand positioning in looking ahead to larger-displacement products.”

A civilian version of the CF1250J will debut CFMOTO’s new 1278cc V-twin powerplant

Closer to home, CFMOTO has sold more than 25,000 vehicles since its 2005 Australian debut through its Australian-owned distributor, Mojo Motorcycles, and network of more than 80 dealers.

The first cab off the new-model rank is CFMOTO’s first fully-faired sportsbike – the sharply-styled 300SR – which has just arrived in local showrooms with a rideaway price of $5750.

CFMoto CL-X series: all-new 693cc parallel-twin engine, all-new lightweight frame

The next, from early 2021, will be the all-new 700CL-X range – CFMOTO’s first full-powered motorcycle – featuring an all-new 693cc parallel-twin engine that produces 55kW (73hp) of power at 8500rpm and 68Nm of torque at 7000rpm. The 700CL-X will be available in Heritage guise in February and Adventure and Sport guises soon after.

CFMOTO Australia director Michael Poynton says he’s excited to be able to finally reveal what lies ahead for the brand.

“CFMOTO is a seriously powerful player in the ATV/UTV markets across the globe, and we knew big, bold moves were on the horizon for the company’s motorcycle division. It’s quite the warning shot, and it’s just the beginning.”

Mojo Motorcycles is based in Altona, Melbourne. Its head office comprises a 5000sqm, company-owned custom-built office and warehouse.

Founded in 1989, CFMOTO has been competing in the motorcycle and powersports markets for more than 30 years. It is China’s largest exporter of quads and utility side-by-sides (or ATVs and UTVs respectively), with an annual production capacity of more than 600,000 units, distributed to more than 80 countries.

Since 2018, CFMOTO has become the top-selling ATV/UTV brand in Europe, with a majority market share in 2019 – well ahead of its nearest rivals.

The joint venture will further expand CFMOTO’s research and development team, which currently comprises more than 200 employees across five countries. The company also owns more than 540 registered patents and independent intellectual rights.

With the resources of an advanced research and development facility, CFMOTO is striding forward towards a world-class manufacturer in the powersports industry and aims to be a premium global powersports brand.
