Jack Kennedy was crowned the 2021 Quattro Group British Supersport Champion in fine style, with the Kawasaki rider taking the Sprint race victory by two seconds. Launching off the line, Kennedy was unchallenged on his way to the win, controlling the race from the front.

It was an intense battel behind him for the remaining podium positions though, as Bradley Perie, Ben Currie and Lee Johnston trading places throughout the 12 lap race. With all three riders taking turns to set the fastest lap, Perie was able to take second place in the closing stages and edge away from the pursuers.

Ben Currie completed the podium in third, with Jamie Perrin the first of the GP2 machines, ahead of Nesbitt and Law.

Supersport Race Two

Ben Currie took victory in a dramatic final Quattro Group British Supersport win at Brands Hatch. It was Jack Kennedy who led the way at the end of the opening lap, but the 2021 Champion faced stiff competition from Bradley Perie, who moved into the lead on lap three. With neither rider able to break away, it was a four rider battle for the win as Johnston and Currie joined the fight.

Trading places throughout the first half of the race, disaster would strike on lap six when Perie crashed out of the lead. With nowhere else to go, Kennedy hit the Yamaha machine, forcing him to retire out of the race shortly after.

This left Currie to take the lead ahead of Johnston, but a red flag brought the race to a premature end on lap eight. On the restart, Currie scorched into the lead, with Law and Johnston in close contention, while Kennedy sliced his way through from the back of the grid.

By the final lap, Kennedy was the quickest man on track, narrowly missing out on the win by just 0.033s.

Ben Currie’s win in the final race of the year secured him second place in the 2021 British Supersport Champioinship.

Pirelli National Superstock  1000

Billy McConnell ensured the 2021 Pirelli National Superstock title came down to the final lap, taking victory in the final race of the year. However, having worked his way through the field to eighth, Tom Neave was eventually able to secure the 2021 title.

Taylor Mackenzie led for much of the race, but McConnell and Jordan Weaving were able to close him down and pass him in the final third of the race. Fending off a last lap challenge from Weaving, McConnell took the win by 0.043s. Fraser Rogers also found a way past Mackenzie on the final lap, completing the podium in third.

He night have only finished eighth in the final encounter but that was still enough for Tom Neave to be crowned the 2021 Pirelli National Superstock Champions with the CBR1000RR-R Fireblade SP by a slender five-points over Billy McConnell.

Billy McConnell

After what started as a difficult season for Tom, plagued with an injury and illness, the Lincolnshire-ace’s luck turned around at the fourth round at Thruxton where he finished third in the second race, to take his first podium this year.

Next up was Donington Park’s National Circuit, and a happy hunting ground for both Tom and the Fireblade SP, he placed second and took his first race win of the 2021 season. The wins didn’t stop there and going to his and the teams’ home round at Cadwell Park, he took the Pole Position and won the race, to then follow up with another win at Snetterton.

With a consistent point-scoring season, Tom racked up three wins, two second places and two third places, and came into this weekend’s grand final 22-points ahead in the standings, and only needing four points to take the title. Crossing the line in eighth place was enough for Tom to be crowned the 2021 Pirelli National Superstock Champion.

Tom Neave

It’s an absolute dream come true, it’s not just a championship for me, but it’s a championship for the whole team, all my crew, everyone who’s supported me and got behind me – it’s been a hell of a year and the best season to win the title in, I’m not just saying that as I’ve won this year, it’s been unreal, the riders and the depth of field. I’m so grateful to Honda for giving me this opportunity three years ago when I wasn’t too proven, so the championship is for them and I cannot wait to see what the future holds.

It was a tense race behind however as Nixon and title rival Joe Talbot followed each other closely. Coming down to the final lap, Nixon was able to slice his way through the pack up to second, claiming a podium finish and the 2021 title. Asher Durham was third, with Talbot eventually finishing fourth.

Ducati TriOptions Cup Race Two

2021 Ducati Tri-Options Cup Champion Josh Day took the final victory of 2021 at Brands Hatch in a cut short encounter, with Chris Walker second and John McGuiness third.

It was Walker who made the best of starts, grabbing the holeshot from Day and Craig Neve, but as they crossed the line to end the opening lap it was Day who regained top spot.

The leading two began to creep away from the chasing pack, pulling a three second gap after the second lap, with Day posting the fastest lap of the race in the process.

With five laps to go the safety car was deployed for an accident, bunching the pack up, and when the race got back underway the race was then red flagged for a second accident, handing Day the victory with Walker second and McGuiness third.

John McGuinness

It’s been a great end to what’s been a really enjoyable season. I always enjoy racing at Brands Hatch and straightaway on Friday, I felt really good on the bike and posted some good lap times. I felt comfortable in all conditions and with a good start in the first race, I was able to get with the front group and convert it into a third place finish and podium. Sunday’s race followed a similar pattern but you had to be really careful that you stayed on line as it was quite damp off it. The damp white line caught out both Craig and David and I was able to take full advantage with another third place finish coming our way. The team’s worked really hard all season so a big thanks to Blue Earth Construction and all the sponsors for making it all possible.

Lee Johnston took victory in a dramatic opening Quattro Group British Supersport Sprint race at Donington Park.

It was Ben Currie who grabbed the holeshot to lead McGlinchey and Johnston over the line at the end of the opening lap. However, with rider trading places throughout the early stages no one was able to break away.

Disaster would strike McGlinchey first as he crashed out on lap five, while Currie would also crash out just a few laps later. This left Johnston in the lead, who was able to hold on to take another victory.

Mason Law was second overall, the first of the GP2 machines, with Scott Swann third and Charlie Nesbitt fourth. Jack Kennedy finished fifth, third in the Supersport class, while Barry Burrell completed the GP2 podium.

The leading group’s battle soon intensified with Nixon taking over at the front, and Corderoy barging his way through the pack. The Yamaha of Corderoy then started to pull away, creating a one second lead over second by lap six. He soon found himself with a three second lead at half race distance, and controlled his lead to take his fourth victory of the season by 3.813s.

McManus held Nixon off on the final lap and on the drag to the line, to round out the podium. Championship challenger Joe Talbot finished fourth.

Honda British Talent Cup

Saturday at Donington Park threw up a serious challenge for the 2021 Honda British Talent Cup, with the standings finely poised and the rain coming down. At the front holding his nerve in a serious show of domination, however, was Casey O’Gorman (Microlise Cresswell Racing) after breaking nearly 20 seconds clear at the head of the field.

Casey O'Gorman

The fight to complete the podium saw Cormac Buchanan (Microlise Cresswell Racing) storm through in the latter stages to catch the duel for second and then steam past for an impressive podium, with Jamie Lyons (C&M Motors Ltd/Tooltec Racing) vs Carter Brown (City Lifting by RS Racing) going all the way to the wire and Lyons coming out on top.

It was O’Gorman in the hot seat from the off as the number 67 streaked away into the lead from pole, with he and Carter Brown pulling a gap early on. From there, O’Gorman was simply unstoppable. Getting the hammer down and the gap going up and up and up, it was a true masterclass in the wet, at one point nearly 20 seconds clear. After the show of domination, O’Gorman then slacked off a little just before the flag, keeping it tidy to the end to take a well-earned 25 points and his seventh win of the season – as well as the Championship lead. But behind him, there was plenty to be decided.

After the initial shuffle it was Rossi Banham (MJL Racing) vs Brown vs Lyons, with Lucas Brown (Amphibian Scaffolding/SP125 Racing) on the scene and Johnny Garness (City Lifting by RS Racing) dropping a few positions. But lap by lap, the group got whittled down as Carter Brown and Lyons pulled away, Lucas Brown crashed out and then Banham too.

Buchanan was the next on the move, up from 14th on the grid to slice past Garness and set off after Brown-Lyons duel. And the Kiwi made up some incredible ground in the latter stages, cutting three and two seconds a lap off those ahead. By Lap 10 he was on the back of them and only a few corners later had passed both, setting off to make some breathing space in second.

As the final lap dawned, O’Gorman was gone and it seemed the podium was settled, with Buchanan in second, Lyons in third and Brown not able to make up much ground. But by the end of the lap the number 74 had dug deep, and as Buchanan crossed the line for P2 the fight for third went right to the wire. Lyons and Brown were side by side on the drag to the line, and the Northern Irishman was able to keep it by just 0.036 – leaving Brown in fourth and therefore one single point behind O’Gorman ahead of Sunday’s season finale.

The top five was completed by Rhys Stephenson (Rocket Racing) in some space, with Harrison Crosby (Banks Racing) in sixth just under a second clear of James Cook (Wilson Racing). The number 34 had some close company from Garness, who took eighth but just a tenth in further arrears.

Kiyano Veijer (Microlise Cresswell Racing) took ninth just ahead of American teammate Julian Correa, with Sullivan Mounsey (iForce Lloyd & Jones) missing out on the top ten by just six-tenths.

Honda British Talent Cup Race Two

Casey O’Gorman (Microlise Cresswell Racing) ended the season on a high as the number 67 put in another stunner at Donington Park to secure the 2021 Honda British Talent Cup.

Getting the holeshot and, this time in the dry, putting in another dominant performance saw the points leader wrap up the crown in style as closest Championship rival Carter Brown (City Lifting by RS Racing) came home second. Jamie Lyons (C&M Motors Ltd/Tooltec Racing) locked out the podium, ending the season with another top finish.

From the off it was a two rider fight at the front, with O’Gorman streaking away in the lead and only Brown able to go with him. Lyons was holding station in third with a small gap behind him too, with a gaggle of riders then fighting over fourth.

Brown stuck in behind O’Gorman initially, but the number 67 then started to stretch his legs and the gap began to go up. Keeping it tidy under pressure, it was nearly seven seconds by the time the Microlise Cresswell Racing rider made it to the flag to sign off from 2021 in style. Eight wins, three missed rounds and some injury struggles later, O’Gorman is the Honda British Talent Cup Champion!

The fight for second saw Lyons catch Brown mid race and it seemed like that would boil over into a duel, but ultimately the number 74 was able to stay ahead and pull away again, just over two seconds clear of Lyons by the flag. For both it ends the season on a solid high, however, and secures them second and fourth in the final standings, respectively.

The fight for fourth saw Cormac Buchanan (Microlise Cresswell Racing) suffer some late heartbreak as he crashed out, leaving Evan Belford (City Lifting by RS Racing) vs teammate Johnny Garness as the duel for 13 points. Belford took it in the end, securing P3 in the Championship in the process as Garness completed the top five in the race for P5 in the standings.

Rhys Stephenson (Rocket Racing) took another impressive result on Sunday in P6, with some time in hand over Bailey Stuart-Campbell (151s Racing) in seventh. Harrison Crosby (Banks Racing) had a lonelier ride to P8, with the top ten completed by a close finish between Rossi Banham (MJL Racing) and Harley McCabe (MLav VisionTrack Academy).

The final standings saw Casey O’Gorman on 273 to runner-up Carter Brown on 267, while Evan Belford took the final podium position. Australia’s Cormach Buchanan finished the season just outside the top-ten, three points off tenth place.

Cormac Buchanan

“The final Honda British Talent Cup race here at Donington Park was a hard fought battle for P4 throughout and I was having an absolute blast… until the rear let go coming into the penultimate lap, resulting in a massive high side. Battered and bruised with a suspected scaphoid fracture in my wrist. Will need more X-rays in 10 days once the injury has time to settle but not sure that’s an option in MIQ. Gutted to end on such a low after the epic high of yesterday so will try and focus on the positives, including a PB lap time. Massive congrats to my Microlise Cresswell Racing team-mate COG Racing. on taking out the championship. To John and the entire Microlise Cresswell Racing team, enjoy the moment as reward for all of your hard work this season. It’s been a blast and thanks for welcoming this kiwi into the ranks. It’s certainly been a debut campaign of highs and lows – and a huge amount of learning – and I have really appreciated everyone sharing this journey with me. I hope you’ve enjoyed the ride so far!”

Penultimate round of BSB sees championship shaken up

2021 Bennetts British Superbikes
Round Ten – Donington Park

Superbike Race Two

Tarran Mackenzie claimed his second victory of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship Showdown at Donington Park early on Sunday afternoon, carving his way through the field from his fifth row start to take the lead on the penultimate lap from Danny Buchan and Christian Iddon.

Saturday’s race winner Gino Rea had initially led the pack on the opening lap from his pole positon start, but soon young gun Storm Stacey made his move to take the lead as he took advantage of his front row start.

By lap four, Rea was back at the front and was then holding off Iddon, Buchan and Josh Brookes as the Title Fighters bid to try to close down the deficit to the McAMS Yamaha pairing who hold the leading positions in the standings.

Buchan was pushing to make amends for his crash yesterday and he made a move into second on Iddon at the Old Hairpin on lap six, before firing the SYNETIQ BMW to the front with a pass on Rea into the Fogarty Esses.

Buchan and Iddon were then duelling for the lead constantly with the VisionTrack Ducati rider getting back ahead by the start of the twelfth lap, before his BMW rival reclaimed the advantage with three laps remaining.

Iddon leading ahead of Buchan, Rea and Mackenzie

Whilst the leading pair fought for the victory, Mackenzie had been consistently making his way through the pack, moving into the top six by lap ten before being within striking distance of the leaders just five laps later.

The McAMS Yamaha rider dived ahead of Iddon with three laps remaining, and despite a huge moment at the Melbourne Hairpin, he was instantly able to regain composure and pass Buchan for the lead on the penultimate lap into the Fogarty Esses.

Mackenzie had the edge for the victory, just ahead of Buchan and Iddon with Rea delivering another strong performance to take fourth place for the Buildbase Suzuki team.

An important win for Mackenzie gave him the upper hand in the championship hunt against Jason O’Halloran

Lee Jackson was back inside the top five for the FS-3 Racing Kawasaki team, ahead of Kyle Ryde who had been mixing it with the lead group in the earlier stages of the race.

Tommy Bridewell was the next of the Title Fighters in seventh with Andrew Irwin completing the top eight for SYNETIQ BMW.

O’Halloran was tenth ahead of Glenn Irwin and Josh Brookes, whilst Peter Hickman, the final Title Fighter was forced to retire after a technical problem.

The win gave Mackenzie an 18-point advantage over McAMS Yamaha team-mate Jason O’Halloran at the top of the standings, after the pair had started the race on equal points.

BSB Superbike Race Three

In the final race of the weekend, Gino Rea added to his debut Bennetts BSB race win from Saturday by again mastering the wet conditions to hold off Iddon and Jackson on his way to victory.

The race start was delayed initially with a heavy shower imminent and when the action got underway, it was then held in wet conditions over a reduced 15-lap battle.

Race three gets underway

Championship leader Mackenzie got the best start off the line to lead, but Rea was soon attacking and he moved ahead on the Buildbase Suzuki.

Iddon and Jackson were holding onto second and third as the leading trio had an advantage over the rest of the pack, but it was disappointment for Mackenzie as he was forced out of the action when a broken battery connector brought his R1 to a halt.

As Rea claimed the double victory, it was a significant moment in the title chase for Iddon as the VisionTrack Ducati rider more than halved the advantage to his McAMS Yamaha rivals after the three races at Donington Park. The VisionTrack Ducati rider now heads to the final round with just a 15-point deficit to Mackenzie at the top.

BSB Superbike Race Three Podium
1. Gino Rea (Buildbase Suzuki)
2. Christian Iddon (VisionTrack Ducati) +2.635s
3. Lee Jackson (FS-3 Racing Kawasaki) +8.610s

Jackson became the 15th different podium finisher of the 2021 season with his top three finish for the FS-3 Racing Kawasaki team, as the leading trio had a clear advantage over Tommy Bridewell in fourth place for the Oxford Products Racing Ducati team.

Josh Brookes was the first of the Title Fighters to suffer a disappointing end to the race, crashing out unhurt at Craner Curves, ending his hopes of a late championship comeback. Glenn Irwin had to start from pitlane after a problem on the warm up lap and despite salvaging tenth, the Honda Racing rider is now also out of title contention, leaving six riders mathematically in the mix for the finale at Brands Hatch.

It was another tough day for Jason O’Halloran who was unable to capitalise on his McAMS Yamaha team-mate’s misfortune in the final race, as he claimed an eighth place finish, meaning he heads into the season finale at Brands Hatch on the weekend of October 17, now 10-points adrift of Mackenzie.

Christian Iddon and Tommy Bridewell remain in the championship hunt should both of the McAMS Yamaha riders fail to fire at the finale. Defending champion Josh Brookes no longer has a mathematical chance of defending his #1 plate.

Tarran Mackenzie

I think there are a lot of positives to take out of this weekend as we come away from Donington with a bigger points lead than we had coming here, so I’m really happy with that. We showed our speed in the first race coming through from 13th to win. In the dry we have a great setting, in the wet in the final race I also felt really comfortable and had a good feeling but unfortunately a little technical problem, which was no-one’s fault, ruled us out. We go to Brands Hatch with a bit of a buffer, it’s not a lot, but it’s a bit and I look forward to getting stuck in there.

Christian Iddon

It’s been a good day and with second and third place finishes today, it’s been fantastic for the championship. I went with the hard tyre for the first race as I wasn’t sure if the softer tyre would last but the wind was really strong, and it was a tough race. Conditions were again tricky in the final race, and it was very similar to how it went on Saturday with Gino setting a good pace. I sat behind him and we were quite a bit quicker than the rest of the field. A win was on my mind, but he was really committed in the final two laps so fair play to him. With three podiums this weekend, it’s been superb for our title aspirations and we’re well and truly in the mix heading into the final round.

Josh Brookes

I’m lost for words to be honest with how today has gone and we’re still struggling with the issues that have blighted us all year. If I ride at the level that’s comfortable, I finish outside the top ten and if I ride with where I think the bike should be, I crash. On the odd occasion this season, I’ve been able to get away with it and get some sort of acceptable results and the small improvements have masked over the fundamental problems. It’s been a tough day.

Gino Rea dominates Donington BSB opener as rivals fall

2021 Bennetts British Superbikes
Round Ten – Donington Park

Gino Rea celebrated his first podium finish in the Bennetts British Superbike Championship in style at Donington Park on Saturday, mastering the tricky conditions to claim his debut victory for the Buildbase Suzuki team as several of the Title Fighters crashed out of the action.

At the start, Rea launched off the pole position to hit the front of the field heading into Redgate for the first time. The Buildbase Suzuki contender was ahead of Danny Buchan and Glenn Irwin, but as the pack reached Goddards, Buchan had edged the SYNETIQ BMW ahead to take the lead.

Buchan held the advantage for two laps before running wide on the exit of Redgate on the third lap, handing the lead back to Rea, who then continued to post a sequence of rapid times to break the pack and build an advantage at the front. Rea controlled the race to become the eighth different race winner of the season.

Peter Hickman was the first of the Title Fighters to tumble out of contention at Starkeys on lap three, with Glenn Irwin crashing out a few corners later on the brakes into the Fogarty Esses. Buchan also slid out of the race on lap four.

As Rea had a comfortable time advantage, behind Josh Brookes had moved into second on the VisionTrack Ducati with Tommy Bridewell and Lee Jackson in the closing pack. However the reigning champion couldn’t save an off track moment, and he tipped off on the grass at Schwantz Curve on the fifth lap.

Title Fighter Tommy Bridewell was another rider to end his race prematurely and just a few corners later than rival Brookes, he crashed into Coppice.

That elevated Storm Stacey into second position on the LKQ Euro Car Parts Kawasaki; however, he too crashed out on the ninth lap at Redgate, meaning the podium line up changed again as Lee Jackson moved into second with Christian Iddon and Kyle Ryde next in the chasing pack.

The trio took the fight for the podium down to the wire on the final lap, with Ryde emerging ahead to claim second and become the 13th different rider to have scored a podium finish in 2021, with Iddon salvaging a strong third after his sixth row start.

Kyle Ryde took second ahead of Christian Iddon

Jackson equalled his best result of the season in fourth place just ahead of McAMS Yamaha’s Jason O’Halloran, the Australian now sits level on points with team-mate Tarran Mackenzie ahead of Sunday’s two races.

Joe Francis made an impressive debut with the FHO Racing BMW team to score a sixth place finish with Ryan Vickers, Bradley Ray and Rory Skinner completing the top ten despite a back of the grid start after falling on the sighting lap.

It’s been a tough day and to crash out of second place after a good effort in qualifying is a massive downer and I’m gutted for both myself and the team. The only comfort is that I wasn’t alone, and a lot of other riders went down in the treacherous conditions. I’m just frustrated though that I saved the slide and only came off because of being on the wet grass. I can’t dwell on it though and the forecast looks a lot better for tomorrow. I’m P3 on the grid and the bike’s been working well all weekend so let’s see what we can do.”

Mackenzie tops opening BSB practice at Donington

2021 Bennetts British Superbikes
Round Ten – Donington Park

Tarran Mackenzie set the benchmark for his Bennetts British Superbike Championship title rivals after the opening SUPERPICKS Free Practice sessions at Donington Park, as the top three riders dipped under the existing lap record.

McAMS Yamaha’s Mackenzie secured the top position as the final ten minutes of the session counted down, surging ahead of Bradley Ray, who was setting the pace before the final flurry of fast laps at the end of the session.

Tarran Mackenzie – McAMS Yamaha – P1

“I am usually a slow burner on a Friday and so I didn’t expect to top the sessions! I think it’s the first time I’ve probably ever topped a free practice on a Friday this year, so to be in the position we are coming into the weekend, and with how it has gone today is really good. The conditions can still change this weekend, but it is important to know that we can be fast in the dry as that could still be what happens, but I feel that we are ready for that and the McAMS Yamaha is feeling good. Free Practice doesn’t mean anything for the championship, but it certainly feels good to have ended the day fastest and we are feeling positive ahead of the race tomorrow.”

Mackenzie heads into tomorrow’s action bidding to extend his two-point advantage at the top of the standings in the opening BikeSocial Race at his home round.

Christian Iddon held on to second position after the opening day on track; the VisionTrack Ducati rider moving just 0.121s adrift of Mackenzie on his penultimate lap of the day, after the session was briefly red flagged after separate crashes from Andrew Irwin and Gino Rea at Craner Curves.

Christian Iddon

Danny Buchan was third fastest after topping the earlier session for the SYNETIQ BMW team, just ahead of Jason O’Halloran, who is ready to fight back to overhaul his McAMS Yamaha teammate at the top of the standings.

2021 Bennetts British Superbikes
Round Nine – Oulton Park

Supersport Race One

Jack Kennedy moved back to the top of the Quattro Group British Supersport standings, taking the Sprint race win by over three seconds. It was pole man Scott Swann who grabbed the holeshot, but Kennedy had soon found a way through, with Ben Currie in close contention.

A tense game of cat and mouse ensued, with both riders separated by just a few tenths for much of the race. However, a flurry of fast laps at the end saw Kennedy edge away. Harry Truelove completed the podium in third place, ahead of Lee Johnston and Bradley Perie.

Charlie Nesbitt was sixth and the first of the GP2 machines, seeing him crowned Champion for the 2021 season. Dan Jones and Jamie Perrin completed the GP2 podium.

Supersport Race Two

Jack Kennedy doubled up on Quattro Group British Supersport wins after a dramatic end to second race saw long-lap equivalent penalties handed to Lee Johnston and Ben Currie. Launching off the line, it was Currie who took the holeshot, leading Johnston, Kennedy, Currie, Truelove, Charlie Nesbitt and Bradley Perie.

Ben Currie took the holeshot

With no rider able to break away, the leading group were trading places throughout the opening laps. Disaster would strike Perie on lap four though when he was forced to retire. Continuing to battle throughout the race, the safety car was deployed on lap ten, just before Johnston moved into the lead, seeing him given a three second penalty for passing under safety car conditions.

With the race resuming with just two laps to go, it was an intense battle to the flag. However, Ben Currie had passed Kennedy before the green flag on the restart, resulting in him also given a three-second penalty. This gave Kennedy the win ahead of Truelove and Scott Swan.

Mason Law took victory in the GP2 class after Charlie Nesbitt crashed out, with Jones and Perrin joining him on the podium.

Zak Corderoy took victory in the second race, taking the flag 0.3s ahead of long-time leader Joe Talbot. It was Talbot who grabbed the holeshot, leading for much of the opening laps, however, Corderoy had found a way through in the closing stages, taking the win.

Costly DNFs for Brookes and O’Halloran on Sunday at Oulton Park

2021 Bennetts British Superbike Championship
Round 9 – Oulton Park

Tommy Bridewell delivered an imperious performance to claim a double on Sunday at Bennetts British Superbike Championship Showdown round at Oulton Park, firing himself back into title contention for the Oxford Products Racing Ducati team.

A second crash of the weekend for former championship leader Jason O’Halloran in race three means he has relinquished the standings lead to team-mate Tarran Mackenzie, with just two-points between the McAMS Yamaha team-mates heading to Donington Park for the penultimate round next weekend (1-3 October).

Superbike Race Two

In the second race of the weekend Bridewell secured an astonishing victory after fighting back from an off track moment earlier in the race to take the lead on the final lap to beat the McAMS Yamaha pairing.

O’Halloran had led from the opening lap despite increasing pressure from his Title Fighter rivals, but he was unable to hold off the commanding pace from Bridewell, who delivered a determined ride to overhaul his Yamaha rivals at the final stage of the race.

Jason O’Halloran leads

Bridewell had run on at Hizzys on the fourth lap, dropping him right down the order into 13th place when he re-joined. However, he was carving his way through the field and he was soon back on the leading group of riders led by O’Halloran.

O’Halloran was putting in a consistent run at the front to hold the advantage as he pushed to bounce back from yesterday’s crash that saw his advantage in the standings decimated, as his teammate Mackenzie took the first victory of the Showdown.

Title Fighters Christian Iddon, Josh Brookes and Mackenzie had been scrapping for second at mid-race distance and on lap 13, the VisionTrack Ducati pairing were inseparable. As they fought for second, Mackenzie seized the opportunity and was able to split the pair by passing Brookes.

Two laps later and Mackenzie made his move on Iddon for second place, but he fought back and instantly regained the position. The pair soon had Bridewell for company and by the penultimate lap, he had moved into second with O’Halloran in his sights.

Bridewell made his move on O’Halloran on the final lap with a move into Old Hall, and then defended hard to hold off the Australian. As Bridewell claimed his second race win of the season, O’Halloran fought off his teammate by just 0.030s at the chequered flag to take second.

Iddon claimed fourth place, but it was a disappointing end to race two for his VisionTrack Ducati teammate as Brookes crashed out of fifth place on the final lap at Druids.

Glenn Irwin was the only Title Fighter who failed to finish in race two; the Honda Racing rider started at the back of the grid after failing to exit pitlane in time following a technical issue. He was working his way through the pack, but as he moved into tenth, he crashed out at Hizzys.

Superbike Race Three

In the final race of the weekend, Bridewell launched off the pole position and instantly hit the front of the pack, setting an incredible pace to break his rivals and at the chequered flag he had a 5.972s advantage, with his victory putting him to within nine points of Mackenzie at the top of the standings.

The battle for second raged throughout the 18-lap encounter as Brookes charged into second ahead of Danny Buchan and Mackenzie at the start. By the tenth lap, Mackenzie was into third and hassling Brookes.

Lee Jackson had soon moved into the podium battle, holding fourth and was then dicing with Mackenzie. On lap 14 Jackson made a move on the brakes into Old Hall, but on the exit there was contact between him and Mackenzie as the McAMS Yamaha rider went for the inside line, sending the FS-3 Racing Kawasaki rider crashing out of the race.

Mackenzie was issued a long lap equivalent time penalty of three-seconds for contact causing a crash, which dropped him from third on track to fifth at the chequered flag.

It was a disastrous race for the second of the McAMS Yamahas as O’Halloran crashed out of contention for the second time this weekend, this time at Cascades on the twelfth lap. That means he now sits second in the standings ahead of Donington Park in a few days’ time.

Brookes was able to hold onto second at the chequered flag with Ray elevated into third, as he became the sixth different rider to celebrate podium success at Oulton Park this weekend for the Rich Energy OMG Racing BMW team.

Peter Hickman claimed fourth place for FHO Racing BMW, just ahead of Mackenzie with Buchan completing the top six for the SYNETIQ BMW team.

Glenn Irwin bounced back from his earlier crash to finish in seventh, whilst Iddon was the eighth of the Title Fighters in eleventh place after contact with Mackenzie on lap 14, with the VisionTrack Ducati rider taking to the gravel at Lodge. He was able to rejoin in 15th before regaining ground to 11th.

Tommy Bridewell
Tommy Bridewell

“I told my team earlier I’ve got nothing to lose, I’m here to win the championship. The dice rolled in our favour this weekend, we did our first double win in BSB and Jason’s had two DNFs then Tarran had a penalty in that last race. Pressure is a cruel thing, but I have no pressure on my shoulders. If I win, it I win it and if I don’t I don’t. I’m here to fight and here to win and that’s what I’ll do. Genuinely I wasn’t surprised by this weekend, without sounding cocky. This place for me is very strong, the bike is strong here and I feel mentally and physically very good. I need to keep this ball rolling at Donington Park and I need to be lifting the trophy at the end of the year.”

Tommy Bridewell
Josh Brookes

“It’s been a mixed day and I’m distraught with dropping the bike on the last lap of the first race today, not just for losing points but for actually doing it as that’s not me. I lost a place on the last lap yesterday so was determined it wasn’t going to happen again and wanted to maintain my pace right up until the end, but I just lost the front. However, the team did a great job in getting the bike ready for race two and whilst I could only admire Tommy riding into the distance, I think we can be proud of the result. Of course, I want to win but to come from as far back as what we were a few weeks ago, to where we are now is testament to everyone’s hard work and we can be content with a brace of seconds this weekend. The championship’s been turned on its head and I’ll keep fighting as always.”

Christian Iddon

“Like Josh, I’ve had a mixed day but whilst it would have been nice to have got the gap to the Christian Iddonleaders below 25 points, it’s still only 33 and it’s still all to play for. But with the two McAMS Yamahas faltering, I can’t help but think it’s a missed opportunity. Fourth in the first race today was ok and I just didn’t have the power to fight at the end so had to settle for the position whilst I was having a problem with the brakes in the second race. Taz didn’t leave me any room and off I went into the gravel trap. I was able to hold onto the bike though and who knows how valuable those five points could be.”

Brookesy firing up as BSB Showdown gets underway

Bennetts British Superbikes – Round 9
24th-26th September – Oulton Park

The 2021 Bennetts British Superbike Championship Showdown kicked off at Oulton Park overnight (24/25/26 September) as the eight Title Fighters set up for the final crucial phase of the season.

After 24 races and a total of seven different race winners and a total of 12 podium finishers, the final Title Fighter positions were decided at Silverstone, and now the leading contenders are on track for the first Showdown clash in Cheshire.

Josh Brookes claimed his first podium finishes of the season last time out at Silverstone and he carried the momentum into the opening day of the Showdown, waiting until the final minutes of the session to launch his way to the top.

Josh Brookes – P1

“I am obviously happy to finish the day on top, we haven’t topped a day after free practice this year, so obviously that’s a positive!

“The changes we’ve been making at recent rounds, I would say the last three or four, have been quite outside of a range I would normally work in. Before coming here, I was a little bit pessimistic that that could work at this circuit due to its nature, so we’ve made some other adjustments to counteract the fact that the circuit is so undulating and that wheelie is always an issue.

“What is surprising is the area we’re able to make the bike work now – I never would’ve dreamed of trying some of the settings we’ve got in the bike currently in years before, but I’ve been forced into it through lack of performance. When we’ve discovered a problem we are now having to make new changes to get past it.

Josh Brookes

“I can never expect to be anywhere at the moment because the season has been so up and down for me, nothing surprises me. When you’ve been quick before you always know that you can do it again. If you’ve never been fast I suppose it’s hard to set a point that you’d like to get to, or a point you think you can get to.

“But having set lap times before, won races before, won championships before, I already know what it feels like to go quick, so I’m always trying to repeat what I’ve done in the past and not only repeat what I’ve done in the past but if you can, set a new standard. So at the moment I’m not surprised by anything I’m doing because it’s all things I’ve done before.

“In recent times I haven’t had the results, so we’ve been forced to make changes that don’t feel natural to try and find a solution to these problems. As the year’s gone on we’ve understood better, so now we can actually put something together that works.”

Tommy Bridewell had been the pace-setter up until the final five minutes of the day, but the Oxford Products Racing Ducati rider was nudged down the order after Brookes’ final sequence of laps, and he was then eased into third when Peter Hickman struck to take second on his final lap.

Tommy Bridewell

Jason O’Halloran holds a 30-point advantage in the standings as the McAMS Yamaha rider bids to go one better this season after finishing runner-up last year. O’Show was fourth fastest overnight ahead of Christian Iddon; it was this pair who had taken the fight for victory down to the wire at the Cheshire circuit earlier in the season.

Gino Rea was the first of the Showdown spoilers in sixth, holding off Lee Jackson by just 0.003s to claim sixth place as they edged ahead of Bradley Ray, who crashed out unhurt at Knickerbrook.

Glenn Irwin was ninth fastest for Honda Racing, holding off Danny Buchan who had set the pace in this morning opening session. Andrew Irwin held onto eleventh place just ahead of Tarran Mackenzie, who was the final rider to complete the SUPERPICKS 12 who progress directly into Q2 on Saturday.

Supersport Race One

Lee Johnston makes it two wins in three races in an action-packed Quattro Group British Supersport Sprint race. Storming off the line, Perie was the early race leader ahead of Currie, Johnston and Kennedy. However, disaster would strike series leader Jack Kennedy on lap four when he and Harry Truelove crashed out of action.

Lee Johnston leads

With no one able to break away, it came down to the final lap as Johnston, Charlie Nesbitt and Perie battled it out. Coming down to the run to the line, Johnston was able to claim his second win of the season by just 0.035s. Joining him on the podium was Bradley Perie and Rhys Irwin, who took his first podium.

Supersport Race Two

It was an action-packed Quattro group British Supersport race at Silverstone, with Charlie Nesbitt leading fellow GP2 rider Mason Law over the line. It was Ben Currie who grabbed the holeshot, but the opening stages saw a close battle of six riders.

Currie got away well

Working his way forward, Nesbitt took over front running at the halfway point, with Mason Law following him through. As those two edge away at the front, it left a battle for the Supersport win, with Bradley Perie and Lee Johnston traded places.

Coming down to the final lap, Perie was able to take the win ahead of Johnston, with Rhys Irwin completing the Supersport podium.

British Junior Supersport Race Two

Adon Davie grabbed a thrilling victory in the second HEL Performance British Junior Supersport race, clinching the win by just 0.037s. The action-packed race was initially red flagged on the opening lap, and on the restart it was race one winner Cameron Dawson who held the early lead, but it was a race long fight for the lead coming down to the final lap.

It was Davie who took victory on the final run to the line, with Dawson second and Lucca Allen third.

Honda British Talent Cup Race One

The penultimate round of the Honda British Talent Cup promised it could be pivotal, and after a dramatic Race 1 at Silverstone that may already be proved half true. As drama hit for key contenders for the crown, it was Ollie Walker (Moto Rapido / SP125 Racing) who came through to take his first win, getting some deserved reward for running at the front after late heartbreak in a few recent rounds. Second was another first as Sullivan Mounsey (iForce Lloyd & Jones) stood on the rostrum for the first time after another standout ride, with Harrison Crosby (Banks Racing) taking his second podium in third place once the dust settled in the wake of the shake-up.

It started with what’s become the standard at lights out as Johnny Garness (City Lifting by RS Racing) took the holeshot from pole, with Casey O’Gorman (Microlise Cresswell Racing) slotting into second and an early breakaway forming as the duo were joined by Mounsey, points leader Evan Belford (City Lifting by RS Racing), Carter Brown (City Lifting by RS Racing), James Cook (Wilson Racing) and Jamie Lyons (C&M Motors Ltd / Tooltec Racing).

It didn’t take long for that first bout of huge drama though. Heading into Maggots, Lap 3 saw Belford suffer a moment and the points leader tagged closest competitor O’Gorman as, shockingly, both the top two in the standings went down. Riders ok, but the door suddenly wide open for those on the chase to capitalise.

So then there were five, with Garness leading with a small margin by the next lap around. But he wasn’t allowed to escape and the chasers soon closed in, with someone else closing in too: Walker. He and Crosby were on a charge and well in the mix in the front group by a third of race distance run.

On Lap 8, more drama. Cook overcooked it right after taking the lead, the number 34 sliding out and losing his shot at glory. The group that had gone from seven to five to seven again had become a six-rider freight train – with Mounsey in the lead.

Lap by lap, so it remained. A classic group battle between the six looked set to roll on right to the end and that it almost did, although Lyons and Crosby lost a little touch with the front four in the last few laps. but even more drama was to come, with Saturday delivering an absolute rollercoaster.

Heading over the line to start the final lap, it was Garness in the lead and Brown fighting off both Walker and Mounsey. But Brown was able to tag back onto the leader and by Luffield, he was close enough to attack – and went for the outside. Locked together initially, there was then contact as the number 74 tagged Garness and it was Garness was forced to sit it up and run on, the number 57 out of the race.

In the aftermath of that, Walker and Mounsey swept through to finish 1-2, both putting in their best races yet and hitting some impressive milestones – having been right there in the battle throughout. Brown crossed the line in third after that final drama of the race, seemingly having made some big gains, but the final final drama of the day was still to come for the number 74. For the incident with Garness, he was given the equivalent of a Long Lap penalty, a three-second time penalty, and drops to fifth – losing the chance to gain a much bigger chunk of points.

The duel between Crosby and Lyons went all the way to the wire and became the fight for third after the penalty for Brown, and the number 15 just took it by 0.075. So Lyons is forced to settle for fourth, and Brown completes the top five in the classification.

Sixth saw Troy Jeffrey (Stiggymotorsport) hold off Harley McCabe (MLav VisionTrack Academy) by half a second, but both impressing and Kiyano Veijer (Microlise Cresswell Racing) likewise as the Dutch rookie took P8. Josh Bannister (Dunsley Heat Racing) took his best finish by far in ninth, beating Harrison Dessoy (Thorneycroft56 Racing) by just 0.046 as he, in turn, held off Lucas Brown (Amphibian Scaffolding / SP125 Racing).

Honda British Talent Cup Race Two

Sunday saw Silverstone host another classic Honda British Talent Cup battle, with Carter Brown (City Lifting by RS Racing) coming out on top this time around – and taking the points lead with it. He struck late to take it and Jamie Lyons (C&M Motors Ltd / Tooltec Racing) followed him through to get back on the box at Silverstone, with the podium completed by Johnny Garness (City Lifting by RS Racing).

There was some drama from the off or rather before it for Race 1 podium finisher Sullivan Mounsey (iForce Lloyd & Jones), with problems on the grid forcing the number 4 to start from the very back of the grid. And after their drama on Saturday, both Casey O’Gorman (Microlise Cresswell Racing) and Evan Belford (City Lifting by RS Racing) were down in P18 and P20 for take two, making it quite a proposition for the duo heading in at the top of the standings as well.

At lights out it was Garness who got the best start, not from pole this time around but the number 57 still taking the holeshot in 57 style. Race 1 winner Ollie Walker (Moto Rapido / SP125 Racing) slotted into second with Brown in third, but it was a big group from the off as the three were joined by Lyons, Harrison Crosby (Banks Racing), Rhys Stephenson (Rocket Racing) and James Cook (Wilson Racing).

On comeback watch though, after only a handful of laps the three riders somewhat out of position had been absolutely storming through. By Lap 4, O’Gorman was at the head of the group chasing to catch the lead gaggle, up into eighth, and the 67 cut the gap quickly. Next it was the turn of Mounsey – up from 31st and the very back – as he led Belford and tucked in to push forward, both also managing to bridge that gap before long.

As the group gained three though, it started to lose one, with Cook beginning to fade by mid-race. However, the freight train fight for the lead was only hotting up, now nine-riders strong, with phase 1 of O’Gorman’s charge completed as he took over at the front.

Heading onto the final lap it was still the number 67 in the lead, with Brown threatening just behind and Lyons in third as Garness shadowed. And the key move came from Brown. The number 74 lined it up and made it stick, with that tiny door opening more than enough invitation for Lyons too. Both sliced past O’Gorman and crossed the line just ahead, but there was an extra kicker for the number 67 too: on the drag to the line, Garness managed to pip him by just 0.009.

The 25 points for the win put Brown on top as the number 74 bounces back after a ore contentious Saturday at Silverstone, with Lyons finding rostrum form again and Garness making his slipstream prowess work to perfection once again. From P18 on the grid though, a 14-place gain and still 11 points off the top of the table is a stunner from O’Gorman.

The battle for fifth was a couple of tenths further back by the line, but it was won by Mounsey as he gained a whopping 26 places. O’Gorman impressed from P18 to thousandths off the podium, but Mounsey, who has one podium and had a second best result this season season of fourth, stormed to fifth position from the very back of the grid – not only taking one of his biggest points hauls of the year, but keeping his head when pressure came knocking.

Crosby was a tenth and a half further back, with Stephenson’s impressive Sunday seeing him take P7, denied by just 0.047. In the end, Belford put together an impressive comeback from P20 but lost out in the group, taking P8 and losing the points lead to Brown. Walker completed the freight train, with Cook a bit further back and the number 34 completing the top ten.

Another day, another rollercoaster, and another shake-up. Sunday sees Brown head into the finale as the points leader, with six in hand over Belford, but O’Gorman is now only five further back too. Garness and Lyons remain in mathematical contention too. Who’ll take the crown in 2021? We’ll find out next time out as Donington Park Grand Prix layout puts the Honda British Talent Cup on the line in a few short weeks!

Brookes books his place in showdown with Silverstone podiums

2021 Bennetts British Superbike Championship
Round 8 – Silverstone National

The eight Title Fighters who will battle to be crowned the 2021 Bennetts British Superbike champion were finalised at Silverstone on Sunday afternoon, as it went down to the wire in the final race of the Main Season as five riders duelled for the final three positions ahead of the Showdown.

After 24 races in the Main Season, which has seen seven different race winners and a total of 12 podium finishers, the leading contenders in Bennetts BSB battled to join Jason O’Halloran, Tarran Mackenzie, Christian Iddon and Tommy Bridewell at Silverstone.

Peter Hickman had guaranteed his position following Saturday’s opening race for the FHO Racing BMW team, whilst Glenn Irwin had edged closer to securing Title Fighter status with his first victory of the season in Saturday’s Race.

Showdown Eight is settled

Superbike Race One

Glenn Irwin became the seventh different race winner in the 2021 Bennetts British Superbike Championship, scoring victory in a dramatic BikeSocial race at Silverstone, as the McAMS Yamaha team-mates crashed out of the two leading positions.

Superbike Race One

The race began with Tarran Mackenzie hitting the front of the pack after a rapid start from the front row. However as the pack streamed across the line for the first time, Tommy Bridewell had claimed the advantage on the Oxford Products Racing Ducati.

On the second lap the drama began; Peter Hickman had a high-speed crash at Becketts, but the FHO Racing BMW rider had his Title Fighter position confirmed in the Showdown, having a 70-point advantage over ninth place in the standings ahead of Sunday’s two races.

The battle for the Title Fighter positions continued to rage throughout the pack. On the same lap, Danny Buchan went for a move on the inside of Ryan Vickers at Woodcote and they collided sending them both crashing out of the action.

Buchan went down and took Vickers with him

There was heartbreak for Lee Jackson too as a technical issues forced him to retire his FS-3 Racing Kawasaki; the three riders remain in a position to secure one of the final three places tomorrow.

As Keith Farmer and Takumi Takahashi crashed out, the BMW Safety Car was deployed on lap four. The pack formed up with Bridewell leading Jason O’Halloran, Gino Rea, Glenn Irwin and Andrew Irwin plus Christian Iddon. Mackenzie meanwhile had dropped to seventh ahead of Josh Brookes after the opening laps.

When the race resumed on lap seven, O’Halloran was instantly attacking; making a move at Copse to snatch the lead from Bridewell. The Oxford Products Racing Ducati rider responded instantly to regain the position at the front of the field, as Glenn Irwin moved into third.

Mackenzie was making up ground though, he was up to second by lap 21 and the McAMS Yamaha rider was pushing for a repeat of his Snetterton victories.

However on the penultimate lap, Mackenzie had taken the lead and was defending hard from his team-mate when he high-sided at Brooklands, collecting O’Halloran and bringing out the red flag.

Mackenzie sustained a fractured fifth metacarpal on his left hand and will not take part in the races tomorrow, whilst championship leader O’Halloran is expected to race.

That awarded the win to Glenn Irwin, who had been holding third ahead of Iddon before the incident, as the VisionTrack Ducati rider returned to the podium for the first time since Thruxton. Bridewell completed the podium, adding to his Podium Points.

A fourth place for Brookes promoted him up ninth in the standings, just six-points adrift of Bradley Ray who held the last place in the top-eight ahead of Sunday’s two races following his fifth place finish.

Gino Rea claimed sixth place, but both him and Andrew Irwin were now out of the running for the final Title Fighter positions. Rory Skinner, Kyle Ryde, Xavi Forés and Luke Stapleford completed the top ten.

Glenn Irwin – Race One Winner

“It was a chaotic race, but I wanted to be one of those not making lunges at the beginning. I had to play it quite safe as I know the place in the Showdown is what we need this weekend. I saw with about eight laps to go Jason [O’Halloran] was starting to push and I did feel okay. But we also have a bad sector, which is sector three – Brooklands. I lose a little bit of traction front and rear and I start to understeer a lot, so we’ll sit down and look and see if that’s something we can improve for tomorrow. But a win – what a way to kick-start this Showdown decider weekend. There is pressure; we put ourselves under the maximum, but I like that because I think that’s when I perform and I’m really happy with today. When the Fireblade is good like it is this weekend, I’m up to fight for the wins and podiums. I’ll be trying my best again tomorrow, I think now we can go really get stuck in. To lose a 32 point buffer in two races would be silly, so let’s go get stuck in!”

Glenn Irwin
Christian Iddon – P2

I’m really happy to be back on the podium as I’ve been off the pace recently and had a few tough rounds so it’s nice to get this feeling again. Even at the start of this weekend, I was only average, but we made some improvements during qualifying, and I kept moving forward the whole race. Gino Rea looked to have that bit more on the Suzuki, but I was confident I could get by Glenn Irwin although the crash changed everything, and we ended up second. I’m really strong in some parts of the track but weak in others so if we can get off the corners better, I think we’ll be in a really good position for tomorrow’s races.”

The wheel spin and lack of grip I’ve been encountering continues but I’ve almost learnt to live with it although it does make the races hard work. We only have a small window where the bike works and just the slightest movement out of that window leads to big mistakes which is why I’m up and down a bit during the races. I’m not known for making mistakes or for getting bad starts but that’s what’s happening although as the race goes on, the other riders come back to me. I can see them spinning up in the second half of the race but because I’ve had that from the start, I’m able to make up ground in the latter stages. It’s not ideal and it’s still frustrating but I’ll take the positives and the fourth place.

Superbike Race Two

In the second race of the weekend, Mackenzie claimed his fifth win of the season, bouncing back from his huge crash yesterday to snatch victory from a resurgent Brookes on the final lap.

Mackenzie had undergone further rigorous assessments by the BSB Medical Team this morning after sustaining a fractured fifth metacarpal on his left hand in yesterday’s crash, and was passed fit to ride.

At the start of race two, Gino Rea launched to the front of the pack from pole position, but a lap later Brookes had made up three positions to put the VisionTrack Ducati into the lead.
Mackenzie was in the mix with the leading contenders as Bradley Ray moved into second to fight for his position in the Showdown.

Bridewell was soon on the move and he dived down the inside of Ray at Copse to claim second position for the Oxford Products Racing Ducati team. The pair traded blows for several laps in the battle for second, as the Rich Energy OMG Racing BMW rider fought to remain in the top eight.

Mackenzie though had moved back up the pack and into second place ahead of Ray and his teammate O’Halloran, who was also still battered and bruised after yesterday’s crash.

On the final lap Mackenzie lunged down the inside of Brookes at Copse to take the lead, but the defending champion also had O’Halloran for company, and he made his move at Luffield to push their VisionTrack Ducati rival back into third at the chequered flag.

Superbike Race Three

The final three Title Fighter positions would be decided in the final race and Glenn Irwin, Danny Buchan, Ray, Brookes and Jackson prepared for one last bid for Title Fighter status.

Whilst O’Halloran became the third different race winner of the weekend, Brookes battled to a hard-fought podium in race three to secure his positon in the Showdown by just four points, knocking Ray out of contention.

The race had earlier been red flagged due to track contamination when Luke Stapleford crashed out at Brooklands. At the stoppage, Brookes had been leading the pack from Bridewell, O’Halloran and Mackenzie ahead of an 11-lap restart.

On the restart, Brookes was determined to secure his position, firing himself to the front ahead of Rea, Bridewell and O’Halloran. However, there was disappointment on lap two when he crashed the Buildbase Suzuki out of second place.

O’Halloran had moved into second before grabbing the lead on the seventh lap as Mackenzie also pulled a pass on Brookes to push the defending champion into third.

By lap 12 the McAMS Yamaha pairing were dicing for the lead again with the pair trading blows until the chequered flag, with O’Halloran holding the advantage by just 0.124s following a last lap scrap.

After the race one incident there would have been some nail biting going on in the McAms Yamaha garage…

Brookes held onto third following an intense last lap battle with Bridewell and Buchan, who also confirmed his position in the Showdown for SYNETIQ BMW with fourth place after getting the better of the Oxford Products Racing Ducati rider.

Iddon finished the final race of the Main Season in sixth place ahead of Ray, who dropped out of a Showdown position at the final stage. Jackson finished in eighth place, with Glenn Irwin in ninth to secure his Title Fighter status.

The Title Fighters are confirmed: O’Halloran, Mackenzie, Iddon, Bridewell, Hickman, Buchan, Glenn Irwin and Brookes.

Six different teams will line up to battle for the title over the final three round Showdown representing four different manufacturers, with the first round taking place at Oulton Park on 24-26 September.

Jason O’Halloran

“After yesterday, to walk away with the same championship gap we had when we came here is a good result. To win in that final race means a lot, it wasn’t easy but I was determined to get to the front and keep out of the battles and that’s what we did. Taz tried at the end but we were straight back at him so I’m really happy with that as I’m quite second hand. Thanks to everyone at the medical centre and McAMS Yamaha. We’ve had a great year, so it would have been a shame to lose our advantage going into the Showdown so to stay ahead is really good. I can’t wait to get stuck in at Oulton Park.”

Josh Brookes

“That third race was a lot more hard fought so I’m proud of our efforts today. In the earlier race this afternoon, to get mugged at the end was a bit of a downer. I ended up in the same position in race three, but I feel a lot better about it. I raced from a position, we had the stoppage and then in the restart I got a good start for once! I had a good battle with Tommy as well. All around it’s been positive. I actually didn’t know Danny was there too on the last lap, I just saw Tommy come past and I didn’t want to give up the position. I didn’t know where other people were in the race and potentially losing another place would’ve meant I may have been out of the Showdown. I had a couple of motivating factors to be sure I got back. The point where I wanted to get back past him I couldn’t actually do the move. Tommy outbroke himself, so we eventually achieved the same result. I’m just pleased for the VisionTrack Ducati team, the sponsors and everyone that supports me. Last time we were at Oulton Park I had a lot of problems getting performance, but we seemed to make some good changes to get the bike up to the speed we’re at now, so if Silverstone is a gauge, this is a track we’ve normally, not sucked at, but not particularly gone good at. So if this is an example, then maybe we’ll go good at Oulton Park too. I’m as curious as anyone to find out so we’ll see what happens in the Showdown.”
