Three-time Australian motocross champion Dean Ferris has landed a deal with Monster Energy Yamaha Factory Racing in the 2019 Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship, filling in for injured contender Aaron Plessinger.

Ferris, who made a surprise appearance at the weekend’s Pirelli MX Nationals double-header aboard KTM machinery, declared his intentions to race in America after wrapping a third consecutive crown in 2018, which saw him win 10 overall victories from 10 rounds.

The New South Welshman scored a fill-in opportunity earlier this year with Monster Energy Yamaha Factory Racing in the MXGP World Championship, however was forced to return home after one round due to suffering a minor injury.

“I’m super excited about this opportunity to race with the Monster Energy Yamaha Factory Racing Team,” Ferris stated. “I’ve won a lot of races on the YZ450F, so it’s a perfect fit for me to start my campaign in America. I’m looking forward to getting the outdoor season rolling in Hangtown next weekend!”

Monster Energy Yamaha Factory Racing team manager Jim Perry commented: “Dean is a multi-time Australian motocross champion with a goal to race in the US. Timing is everything and he will get a great opportunity to do so in the Lucas Oil Motocross Championship as Aaron continues to make progress in his recovery.”

The opening round of the 2019 Pro Motocross series kicks off at Hangtown on 18 May.
