MV Agusta Brutale 1000 Serie Oro and Superveloce 800 Serie Oro Sold-Out Only Days After Launch

In total, these 600 motorcycles (300 apiece) sold out in days after a social media pre-order launch. Impressive.

Begin press release:

MV Agusta announces that the Brutale 1000 Serie Oro and the Superveloce 800 Serie Oro, both to be produced in a 300 units limited series, were sold out only days after launching a pre-order campaign through the company’s social media platforms. The first deliveries of the Brutale 1000 Serie Oro are expected by November 2019 while the Superveloce 800 will arrive in March 2020.

When first presented at EICMA in November 2018, the Superveloce 800 Serie Oro had been deemed “the most desirable and anticipated bike of 2020”, whilst the Brutale 1000 Serie Oro was acclaimed as “most beautiful bike of the show”. Requests for the bikes started raining in at Schiranna’s MV Agusta headquarters, and only a few days after pre-orders officially opened they were sold out.

The Brutale 1000 Serie Oro is possibly the meanest and most aggressive looking naked ever. It is certainly the most powerful 1000 cc naked bike ever produced, with its 208 HP, 4 cylinder engine intimately related to the F4 RC racing superbike. It is capable of reaching top speeds of over 300 Km/h.

The Superveloce 800 Serie Oro has a decidedly classic look, reminiscent of MV Agusta’s glorious legacy. But beyond the attractive yesteryear’s looks, It features a steel trellis chassis, a 148 HP inline-3 cylinder 799 cc engine with a counter-rotating crankshaft coupled to a 6-speed gearbox and an iconic triple-exit exhaust system. The Superveloce 800 also includes a number of advanced technologies, including a TFT dashboard as well as state of the art engine and vehicle control electronics incorporating ride-by-wire, multi-maps and traction control.

Timur Sardarov, CEO of MV Agusta, said: “We are delighted with the success of these two launches. It proves that we are on the right path to continue in MV Agusta’s glorious tradition of constant innovation, breathtaking performance and superb design. 600 passionate riders from all over the world have shown their unfaltering appreciation for our iconic brand and our unique motorcycles. We shall do everything in our power to make them proud of owning an exclusive piece of true motorcycle art”.

Catalonia: a motorcycle racer’s haven?

But why does Pol think Barcelona and Catalunya in general produce some of the sport’s top talent? “I think it’s the culture that’s not just in Barcelona but in Catalunya, I mean when I started riding bikes, there were small promotional cups where hundreds of children were riding bikes, and this is the only way. For sure, these hundreds of children haven’t made it to MotoGP but we see Rins, Maverick, the Marquez brothers, a lot of people that are here racing today – they all started in those categories which were supported by major companies in the region.”

Milner switches to KTM 450 EXC-F ahead of Kyogle AORC

Milner switches to KTM 450 EXC-F ahead of Kyogle AORC

Australian champion steps up from 350 EXC-F for remainder of E2 campaign.

Image: John Pearson.

Recently claiming victory at the 2019 Penrite Hattah Desert Race, Daniel Milner has explained his decision to switch from the KTM 350 EXC-F to the 450 EXC-F ahead of this weekend’s return of the Yamaha Australian Off-Road Championship (AORC) at Kyogle in New South Wales.

The KTM Enduro Racing Team ace dominated the opening four rounds in the E2 category and unofficial outright standings aboard the 350, however the transition to the 450, which is still eligible in E2, comes as the remaining rounds will be better suited to the larger capacity machine.

“I just thought I’d try something different, and obviously with KTM, we can swap and change and stay in the same class,” Milner explained to MotoOnline.com.au.

“It’s pretty cool to back on a 450, I raced one in 2017, so I thought I’d jump back onto it. Especially with some of the next few rounds – we have Broken Hill which is pretty wide-open, South Australian which is sand, and they just changed the last round Victoria – I think the 450 will be more suitable for those races.”

This weekend’s fifth and sixth rounds of AORC will see the Sprint format rolled out during both days of racing for the second time this season.

BSB hits Snetteron | Brookesy could claim £30,000 bonus!

2019 British Superbike Championship

Snetterton Race of Aces

The battle in the war to become the 2019 Bennetts British Superbike Champion continues this weekend (July 19/20/21) at Snetterton as the battle to seal a top six position in the standings intensifies with just four rounds now remaining ahead of the all-important Showdown.

In addition this weekend, the Monster Energy round of the season will see the revival of one of British motorcycle racing’s most prestigious race titles synonymous with the Norfolk circuit – the Race of Aces trophy.

The Monster Energy Race of Aces trophy will be awarded to the Bennetts BSB rider who scores the best cumulative result from the two races at Snetterton. The illustrious title has previously been awarded to such racing legends as Mike Hailwood, who claimed the first win in 1965, Giacomo Agostini, Phil Read, Paul Smart, Mick Grant and Barry Sheene.

Scott Redding arrives in Norfolk heading the standings by just four-points from Tommy Bridewell, with the pair again swapping positions in the championship table last time out at Knockhill in Scotland. Redding was victorious at the previous round, but the Be Wiser Ducati rider knows he faces tough opposition in the two races on Sunday.

Scott Redding
Championship leader

“Leading the Championship right now is not the biggest thing for me. I understand I need to work the most at scoring the Podium Points before the Showdown. To come away from Knockhill with a win and a second place from sixteenth on the grid in mixed conditions, I was over the moon with that.

BSB Rnd Knockhill Scott Redding AUYA F
Scott Redding and Danny Buchan shared the Knockhill BSB wins

“I am settling in with the bike and the Championship; a lot of people didn’t believe that I could be competitive at Knockhill so it fuelled me up a bit more to do something special and to come away with all those results in the weekend was good, and to be leading the Championship is a nice bonus.

BSB Rnd Knockhill Scott Redding AUYA
Scott Redding claimed the Race 2 win at Knockhill

“I still love going to a new track. I can’t wait again, it is hard because you never know how you will adapt to the circuit, but I feel like I have got the harder ones out the way, more riders have said to me ‘you will like this track’. Snetterton should suit my style and I just have that drive in my stomach to do it the first time I go to a circuit and that is what really motivates me.

BBS SN Rnd Satudary R Bridewell Redding Mackenzie
It was a three-way battle at Donington between Bridewell, Redding and Mackenzie at round three

“I am surprising myself a little bit but I believe that has come from confidence and believing in myself again which is something that I had lost and it has kind of given me a second gear. That is an amazing feeling; the problem is when you have a couple of bad years in racing you can get down. Then you show that you can do it and then you believe that you can do it and that is the strongest thing that a rider can have in his pocket so to have that back now when I go to races now makes me more relaxed and confident.

“It always depends on the conditions, the circuit, the circumstances, but my goal is always to go for a podium regardless of a new track. When you are in a position for a podium most of the time in BSB you can fight for a win so I just don’t need to put pressure on myself. I have been enjoying the racing in BSB, it is action packed and I feel the vibe the riders are giving for the fans to watch so to be stuck in with that is something good to be part of.”

Bridewell has yet to score a victory this season, but if he can accomplish it on Sunday it will be the first race win for the Oxford Racing Ducati team. After an impressive seven podium finishes, he has been edging tantalisingly close to the achievement for the Winchester-based dealership team.

The stakes are high for Josh Brookes; he remains the only rider with a chance of claiming a £30,000 bonus in the Integro Triple Crown if he can secure the double win in Sunday’s two races.

Tarran Mackenzie leads the McAMS Yamaha charge with fourth place in the overall standings and Snetterton marks a big weekend for the Japanese manufacturer as the 2020 Yamaha YZF-R1 and YZF-R1M will make their European debut on display. It will be the first time the 2020 models will be on show anywhere in Europe less than a week after the global unveiling in America.

Mackenzie was back on the podium at Knockhill, but he only has a slender nine-point advantage over Danny Buchan, who became the fifth different race winner of the season at Knockhill. The FS-3 Racing Kawasaki rider is bidding to secure a debut appearance in the Showdown for both himself and the team.

Honda Racing’s Xavi Forés has proven he has adapted rapidly to the Bennetts BSB Championship, with the Spaniard holding the final place in the top six ahead of the two races this weekend. Forés has claimed four podium finishes so far this season and visits the Norfolk track for the first time. He has a 20-point margin over Christian Iddon and Peter Hickman ahead of the weekend.

Iddon has been facing a race against time to be fit after his Knockhill crash as he bids for a Showdown place for the first time for Tyco BMW; Michael Laverty joins him this weekend as Keith Farmer continues his recovery from injury.

Hickman and Iddon are equal on points in seventh place but the Smiths Racing BMW rider has high hopes as he heads to Norfolk, with Andrew Irwin and Dan Linfoot also looking to close the gap this weekend.

Dan Linfoot

“I’m excited ahead of the weekend, last round I felt we under-performed slightly in terms of what happened in the races but our strength in practice is certainly something that I’m taking confidence from. The bike is quickly becoming a joy to ride again, we’ve overcome the front end issues and I feel this weekend we’ll be able to show our true pace. Snetterton is a circuit I really enjoy, I’ve had some really strong results there in the past and I’m fairly certain it will suit the Yamaha. Our aim is to gain strong points, two top five’s and pushing for the podium, which I feel we will be more than capable of doing.”

Hector Barbera will also be back on the grid at Snetterton, lining up for the Quattro Plant JG Speedfit Kawasaki team, replacing Glenn Irwin who is suffering from a virus that’s causing partial vision. Jason O’Halloran hasn’t had the best of luck so far this season with McCAMS Yamaha and is down in joint 12th place in the rider standings at the half way stage of the championship. But the Norfolk venue is the scene of some top results for O’Halloran who has won races in the past here so he will be hoping for more of the same this time this weekend to try and build towards the top six before the showdown commences.

The weekend also marks the return of the RAF Regular & Reserve Kawasaki team, based at nearby RAF Marham, with rookie Ryan Vickers. Hayes returns in expanded Serco Yamaha supercross roster

Hayes returns in expanded Serco Yamaha supercross roster

AMA regular set for AUS Supercross campaign alongside Crawford and Tanti.

Image: Foremost Media.

American Jacob Hayes will return to Serco Yamaha in an expanded three-rider line-up for the upcoming 2019 Australian Supercross Championship, where he’ll join team regulars Nathan Crawford and Aaron Tanti.

Hayes contested the 2018 series with the factory-backed Queensland-based squad, finishing third in the championship standings behind Hayden Mellross and Yamalube Yamaha Racing’s Jay Wilson.

“I had an amazing time in Australia last year and the Serco Yamaha team really looked after me so it was good to be able to hook up with Gavin and his team again and build on our relationship,” Hayes commented.

“This year I feel I will be a little more prepared on several levels as I have raced the 2019 season in the US on a YZ250F as well as I now know how the Australian series works as well as a better understanding of the level of racing there.

“There are some quality riders in SX2 in Australia and I loved racing them last year. I’m planning on them being even better again in 2019 so my preparations will need to be good. Last year I was third after a bit of a slow start to the season, so this year the goal is to improve and try and win the championship for myself and the Serco Yamaha team.”

Team owner Gavin Eales added: “We are excited to have Jacob with us again this year and happy to keep our relationship going from 2018. He is a thorough professional to deal with and puts in 100 percent every time he is on the track. He adds to our team as well as the presence of Yamaha on the track.

“We have been able to put this deal together with the support of Yamaha Motor Australia, Mega Fuels, Havendeen Roofing as well as our partners at Serco. We plan to have Jacob here prior to the start of the championship so he can get set up and acclimated here before the opening round in Brisbane on 12 October.

“Jacob will be a great benchmark and training partner for Nathan and Aaron as all three can work together and push themselves to a higher limit. We already have plenty of things under way and look forward to the start of the series.”

Hayes contested the 250SX West division of the 2019 Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship with CycleTrader Yamaha, completing the series with a ranking of 11th. The Australian Supercross Championship is set to kick-off on 12 October at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre.

2019 Silk Way Rally: Day 10, SS9: Shorty Shines in Stage Nine

Our friends from WESTx1000 are out at the 2019 Silk Way Rally bringing coverage from Day 10 of the event.

Begin Press Release:

Day 10, SS9: Shorty Shines in Stage Nine

The Retired MX Star Wins His First Stage in the World Championship

2019 Silk Way Rally

Silk Way Rally; Special Stage Nine: What was mesmerizing about the modest sized dunes dominating challenges in the 8th leg, pales in comparison to the spectacular mountain-sized monuments of khaki colored granules just outside of Alashan. Though this was near the site of the previous day’s ASS, we didn’t have the chance to absorb the full magnitude of this place – massive shadows in the horizon opening up to China’s own Sahara. To never feast your eyes on such a sight is to do them, and yourself, a disservice. Like setting foot into a Dali painting, the mountains create bizarre illusions, appearing Martian to a novice. Peaks look within reach, yet the true distance is incalculable without a couple bottles of a water and a Fitbit. The cliffs are two faced, completely darkened by shadow on one side, brilliantly white on the other. A rollercoaster building anticipation as one ascends and releasing pure exhilaration all the way down, a ride with which one American feels right at home.

2019 Silk Way Rally

Heroes come in all shapes and sizes, and today, at least one of them is “Short.” It’s here in China where retired Motocross-star-turned-Rally-Raid-pro won his first stage in the World Class championship. (And it’s about time.) A truly underrated rally racer, Andrew Short #29 (Rockstar Energy Husqvarna) understands hill climbs, whoops, berms, getting loose and going airborne like their something he tackled for, say, two decades… It’s no wonder he looked so at ease throughout this multifaceted special. Stage Nine wasn’t just another highspeed road race or Enduro like the former seven – to exclude SS8 of course. Shorty (as he’s known ‘round town) knew he’d made good time, feeling confident yet again, through the dunes which were quite well suited for his style. But instead of his usual fluid nature, being smartly conservative when outside his comfort zone, he pushed himself to the top of his limits, taking more risks than usual in the fast parts to ultimately win the day’s crown. It’s still too soon for the United States to bust out in unison Queen’s “We Are the Champions,” but if Shorty’s feat was a representation, at all, of his country, we have much to be proud of.

“Today it was more like motocross – not those fast roads. I was able to move on the bike, I had a good start position, so overall a really good day for me. Nice to win my first FIM special even if it has taken me a lot longer than I thought to get to this point. And I’ve still got a long way to go. These guys have been doing it so long. They have so much knowledge and expertise, and also speed. There’s some truth in the fact that this being a level playing field helps (first time for bikes on the Silk Way Rally), but for the most part it’s just because they’re fast.” – Andrew Short #29, Rockstar Energy Husqvarna

2019 Silk Way Rally

HERO Motosports’ Paolo Goncalves #4 performed well in the sand sierra as well, sliding into Second place at the finish. Quite unfortunate he was taken out of contention for engine troubles earlier in the event. Frenchman Adrien van Beveren #10 of Yamaha Rally Team too boxed his way through the penultimate stage with the third seed as his prize. At only a minute-forty-five behind the winner, he’s in clear shot of the final podium in Dunhuang. Fourth position in the 9th leg, #6 Sam Sunderland (Red Bull KTM) still has plenty of space between him and his adversaries in the General Classification. If all goes according to plan, we’ll see the Brit-born factory rider at the top of the pyramid summing up the 2019 Silk Way Rally. But then who will fill those next two coveted spots – Short, Beveren, Benavides K. or L.? It’s such an airtight competition right now, predictions would be a fool’s errand.

2019 Silk Way Rally

In the Car class, a victor appears to have already been chosen. And although again, we could blame fate (or recklessness) for any casualties among the elite, #201 Nasser Al-Attiya and Mathieu Baumel (Toyota Gazoo) are much too clever to endanger their massive advantage by pushing it. Any troubles they might encounter would be at the hands of destiny. Some exhaustive driving by with pinpoint accurate navigating, the team managed a tough stage without any hiccups, securing their 8th consecutive triumph. Wei Han and Min Liao #208 (Geely Auto) came out of the beach day in Second, only to be starting the final stage at a tense position. Whereas Overdrive Racing, Eric Van Look and Sebastien Delaunay #205, will be cozy in third and gunning for their Chinese opponents.

“It was a very difficult stage today. I have raced many Dakar’s, but I have never known such an exhausting special. Like yesterday it was very interesting, but the body, already tired, I was really tested today. There’s only one stage left now to finish this Silk Way Rally in style.” – Nasser Al-Attiya #201, Toyota Gazoo Racing SA

2019 Silk Way Rally

It somehow feels right to have a KAMAZ-Master truck present on the podium at this Russian run event. But that’s not to say the team this year won’t have earned it. With the Belarusian hopefuls, vessel #304 MAZ-SportAuto piloted by Siarhey Viazovich, officially out of the race after tumbling down a dune, KAMAZ is pushing to have all three steps filled with their machines – and so far, the effort is paying off. Anton Shibalov, Dmitrii Nikitin and Ivan Tatarinov are sitting on the top driving camion #303; Andrey Karginov, Andrey Mokeev and Ivan Malkov in the #300 have the second landing on lockdown; and teammates Airat Mardeev, Dmitrii Svistunov and Sergei Krenev holding the last stair behind the wheel of #302. Not to be forgotten, the US CRV team, #310 captained by Aviv Kadshai, Izhar Armony and Maoz Wilder, have scrapped their way to 6th in the stage and 7th overall, their greatest stats yet. Glad to see the Stars and Stripes are putting up a good fight in this cross-country battle having Short, CRV and UTV #229 (Austin Jones and Kellon Walch) pulling solid results at the rally!

“We drove this special at a good pace, but I never had the impression of taking any risks. The goal was to drive carefully and get over the obstacles as efficiently as possible. Something we clearly achieved, as the first cars didn’t take much time off us.” – Anton Shibalov #303, KAMAZ-Master Team

Will the standings remain steadfast as this 2019 iteration comes to an end? Or will the fickle nature of Rally Raid alter the outcome of a seemingly certain finale?

MotoBi was established in 1948 by the eldest of the six Benelli brothers, Giuseppe, after a disagreement saw him split from the family company.

After his death in 1957 the MotoBi company’s fortunes declined and it was absorbed into Benelli in 1961, although the MotoBi name continued to be used for some of the company’s sporting models – right up to 1973.

The Catria (in both 125cc and 175cc sizes) was 1956 and the 175 Catria and was released in 1955. 200cc and 250cc versions soon followed.

The distinctive OHV motor (which became known as the “power egg”) was designed by Piero Prampolini who later went on to design the 1972 Benelli 500/4 GP bike. All the various versions of the Catria used a pressed steel spine frame.

The 1956 175 Catria seen here is a MSDS (Moto Sportive Derivate della Serie) model. MSDS was a Formula 3 category for Junior class riders,  a fiercely contested series, both by the riders and manufacturers.

The cable operated pivoting ‘baffle’ at the end of the exhaust was used to quieten the bike when travelling through villages during road races.

It was common for owners of the time to add colourful “victory” decals to their (older) bikes over the years.
