Nakagami: “They thought I had no talent”

“They bought me a small bike when I was four years old, they didn’t focus on two wheels. They love four wheels so they were thinking about me being a Formula 1 driver,” explains Nakagami, talking about his very first experience with a bike. “But at that time they didn’t have small options on four wheels so they got me two wheels…I started in a parking lot, a very small area just for fun. Then I started, little by little, to enjoy it…

Mir: “Comeback felt like the first time I tried the bike”

“I spent almost two weeks in a bed, after that it’s difficult to feel strong when you start training again. That was tough. The first training I did was with the RM-Z bike at an MX track that is pretty flat, with just a few small jumps, and there I felt very tired, I had to stop after 5 minutes, it was really frustrating. But that was part of the recuperation and recovery, so finally I was happy that I did that training. That was only the beginning and every day I got better, more confident, and stronger. Here in Misano even though I’m not 100%, I’m very close.”

“We’re creating more ambitious goals with every step”

“But this year we have taken off from where we left off at the end of last season, and we raised the bar, giving us the objective of winning at least one race. So far we have won two and I would say that it’s because of the great consistency we have. There were steps made with the bike in the first place, and then we improved and refined many technical aspects, and there was also a lot of growth from Rins, who has matured rapidly and is now in his third season in MotoGP. In my opinion he has become a top rider in every way, especially as he is able to fight well at every race.

Test tech review: what new things have we seen?

Arguably, the most notable new part Yamaha unveiled was a Suzuki-esque double piped exhaust. It’s no secret that one of Yamaha’s main weak points is power, so did this have any effect on performance? Viñales was the only rider to try this new part, with Rossi heading out with a front-wheel cover that gave an aerodynamic shape to the brake disc cover that keeps temperature in the front brake, while also driving air out of the brake duct in a more efficient way. What’s more, Yamaha had a carbon swingarm to try at the Misano Test.

Norrodin steps in for Pawi at the San Marino GP

Adam Norrodin: “It’s a shame that KIP is not able to return to racing, but I’m really happy to have been given this opportunity; it’s like a dream come true. There’s something new for me to learn, but it’ll be interesting for me – it’s a new chapter for my story and I need to say a huge thanks to Razlan and the team for still believing in me. It’ll be great to be able to come back to the world championship, because I’ve missed the pressure, the people and how much you improve every weekend there. The bike will be a little different to what I’m used to, but I’m looking forward to trying it out and my main focus for the weekend is to try and learn the bike to prepare for the future. For me, it’s a great opportunity, but equally, I hope that KIP can make a fast recovery and come back to the championship to show his potential.”
